chattels   AAM is clearly proud of what he has achieved in removing Baghdad neighborhood barriers and moving the PM's office. Not many people seem to think this is so impressive.

chattels   The most immediate policy response is a new welfare program that will provide payments to families without a breadwinner (min 4). As an economist he knows this isn't going to change anything, & Iraq doesn't have the money for this & everything else.

chattels   AAM says "some measures" have been taken to fight corruption but admits progress has been minimal (min 6). After entering office he (unconstitutionally) centralized control of all corruption offices in his "Supreme Council for Combatting Corruption." Power = responsibility

chattels   AAM says security forces have "followed international standards in maintaining order" (min 8). I wonder if he is referring to something he learned during his recent trip to China.

chattels   AAM: parliament needs to empower PM to complete his cabinet & change some ministers now in office (min 9). Nothing keeps him from firing them himself but with no coalition AAM must beg parl't for approval. Problems w several ministers have been in the Iraqi media for months.

chattels   The crowds of young protesters seem to not have anything to lose. They move toward the security forces bravely, embracing live bullets, batons and tear gas. This makes them a dangerous force, ready to become extreme easily and quickly.

Although several figures — including Muqtada al-Sadr, who led protests for a long time — have tried to mediate between the protesters and the government in order to calm the streets, the protesters are not keen on any initiative leading them to evacuate the streets.

 In such circumstances, the only thing that would calm the street is the resignation of the prime minister, which will become more realistic over time if the protests continue.

He added, “While we call on the demonstrators from our people to take peaceful methods of demonstrating and expressing their protest and the preservation of public and private money and not to allow engineers to enter their ranks to miss the opportunity on their trainees and achieve the desired objectives of demonstrations and sit-ins.”

The opposition front announced today “its full solidarity with the legitimate demands of the demonstrators and we believe that all the declared demands are true and can be implemented with deliberate steps within a short period of time.”

It demanded the following:

1 – We call the Presidency of the House of Representatives to convene an emergency session and the presence of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces devoted to discuss security events and the development of legislative solutions and obligate the government to implement them.

2 – Compensation of the victims who died as a result of the recent demonstrations, whether civilians or security forces, and hold the negligent.

3- Providing job opportunities for our young people by operating factories and factories that are stopped after they are invested and withholding the privileges of special grades and presidencies and turning them into job grades for the unemployed.

4 – The Government to open the door of investment and overcome all obstacles and red tape that prevents the bringing of capital and technology to the country and give priority to the employment of local labor, especially in oil companies and dispensing with foreign workers.

It not so much about the actual amount. The CBI has an IQD denominated liability in respect of the currency that has been issued. This liability is underpinned by assets but the bulk of the assets are foreign currency denominated.

If the IQD were to rise in value the liability would increase but the asset value would remain the same. There is only about 8% equity in the CBI accounts so it would not take much of a rise in the value of the IQD for the CBI to be bankrupt.

In addition, the parliament's presidency committee has blocked Article 18 of the protocol, which calls for the publication of the names of the legislators who have attended parliament and those who have not.

Article 18 reads, "In the event of repeated absence without a legitimate excuse five consecutive or 10 non-consecutive times during the annual session, a written warning shall be sent to the absent member inviting him to commit to attend. In case of noncompliance with the [parliamentary] presidency, the matter shall be submitted to the council [parliament] at the request of the committee.”

 And if you go back and read the IMF Article IV Consultations you will see that they all mentioned stability because that is what they're doing at this time but that isn't long-term in fact it can't be long term because if they're going to get an influx of capital into the economy it's going to create significant inflationary pressure in which an alternative tool is necessary

Kaperoni   Many of you think a float is just some kind of a idea or thought. But it's not its monetary policy. It's a tool and it's what most countries do. Most countries float and there's a reason for them doing what they do. And the CBI is creating the conditions now so that they can float the currency.

How do I know that? Because they've stated so. We're seeing a ton of effort put into the creation of a market economy and efforts to launch that which will create a substantial amount of capital in the country.

The result of all of that money flowing through the financial system will create inflationary pressure on the financial system and they must float to offset that pressure or they will lose control over the stability

The statement received the agency (Euphrates News) a copy of it “witnessed the capital Baghdad and a number of provinces launch protests demanding the provision of public services and employment opportunities.”

The cell “regretted the violence accompanied by these protests, issued by a group of rioters to overthrow the real content of these demands and stripped of the peacefulness of which they came out, and that while we stand in solidarity with the freedom of expression guaranteed by the Constitution,

and based on the principle of national responsibility, we call All citizens to calm and restraint, and stress the continuation of the security services in the performance of their duties in order to ensure the security and safety of the demonstrators.

The demands are:

1- Declaring a real war on corruption and opening all files of corruption with the help of international bodies specialized in corruption cases

And legislation the law from where you get this.

2. Preventing the interference of political parties and blocs in government work, separating political entitlement from government positions and establishing the Federal Service Council.

3 – Formation of the Construction Council, which consists of specialists to be responsible for all projects and future plans of the country.

4. Really support the private sector, protect the domestic product to eliminate unemployment, move the local economy, maintain foreign currency within the country and open the door for real domestic and foreign investments.

5 – Cancellation of the currency auction and the adoption of free market policy.

 6. To confine arms to the State in a genuine manner and to abolish all armed manifestations and the militarization of society.

7- Restructuring all government sectors, especially the service ones, to be real productive sectors.

8 – Restructuring and organization of the institution of education and fast and urgent in order to produce a successful educational sector according to international standards.

9. Amending the Electoral Law to be a fair law and preserving the rights of all.

10. Repeal and amend all laws and legislations that contravene the Constitution and immediately apply the disabled paragraphs of the Constitution and abolish all special privilege laws.

■ Give an opportunity not more than 15 days to start the implementation of the above or else the ceiling of our demands next time will be higher and bigger

It is totally irrelevant how much currency is held where, the only significant figure is the liability on the CBI that appears in their accounts. At the end of August that figure stood at over 48 trillion dinar and the IMF projection takes that figure to nearly 60 trillion over the next 5 years.

If you cannot understand that point then there is no credibility in what you say, trying to say the CBI and IMF are falsifying the accounts just does not hold water.
