They gave me an envelope with currency in it and said that what we are all waiting for will happen 'soon'. Out of curiosity I've asked people about the possibility of things like this happening and a lot of the time it's the answer of "that's how the rich get richer".

But here's the thing, investing 1mil into a currency that increases by $0.05 is going to get you quite a lot, in our eyes of course. Now, it does make sense that with current events, a RV in the scale of IQD, Zim, dong that we are waiting for will obviously be quite the economic boost for a large number of people, let alone, countries...but that pulls away power from those who are already at the top, right?

Wouldn't it make more sense for them to find a long and drawn out way to keep power other than a 'quick' fix? I'm not the most informed person on political events of course and that's just my common sense on what I know though. Any insight for me from those who have been following for years?

Crevan   I'm glad I can say I put no money into this investment and was just given currency. So I can be completely in the grey with it. I can see how Iraq can increase the value of their currency by backing it with a valuable resource like oil.

But how would that fair with the world's economy? If they back their currency with the gold standard and everyone else does it as well, that would also make economy shaky.

I mean, this is going off very little research from my end of course, but the different Nations are just different businesses relying on eachother to keep afloat. Unless they just make the RV happen and absolutely tear Iraq apart to distribute the currency to the world.

Then inflation catches up and balances out. And before it balances would be the time to make a profit. I don't know, I'm no economics major. Haha

BAGHDAD / NINA /- President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, expressed his hope to reach an agreement with Baghdad, calling on the Federal Council of Representatives and Iraqi political parties to visit Erbil for further talks, especially with regard to the Kurdistan oil file.

"The relations with Baghdad are good, and negotiations are continuing in a positive atmosphere," said Barzani, according to Rudaw Media Network on the sidelines of the Kurdistan University Forum in Erbil. Added ``I think Baghdad and Erbil want to solve all the outstanding problems and certainly all efforts are continuing for this purpose. ''

On the negotiations for the preparation of the 2020 budget, the President of the Kurdistan region said: "I hope to reach an agreement and we all look forward to an agreement," noting that "the parties are making serious efforts to reach solutions."

On the dialogue with the Iraqi political blocs, Nechirvan Barzani stressed "dialogue is always required with the Iraqi political parties and all political forces to achieve mutual understanding."

He added, "Unfortunately, questions and problems are often raised about the Kurdistan oil file and we have invited the Federal Parliament and political parties to send delegations to Erbil for further talks on these issues and to reach a settlement that serves Kurdistan, Iraq and their people."

Last Thursday, a delegation from the Kurdistan Parliament, arrived in Baghdad, to discuss several issues, including the share of the region of the fiscal budget law for 2020, where the delegation met with the Finance Committee in the House of Representatives, in the presence of the President of the Kurdistan Regional Representative in Baghdad, to discuss the draft budget law 2020.

That would be true if the event is perceived as solitaire. That is not the case, IQD/USD is a relationship between more than one entity but some are only prepared to focus on one side of the equation.

Yet at the same time people are looking to one outcome,"exchange".

If "no one knows" then nothing can be ruled out and more consideration should be given to the bigger picture. People should reflect on how the hype on the IQD started in the first place.

There was no factual basis but we all got sucked in on the possibility of some return, early doors it was 10 cents by 2010. The whole thing morphed into something else and we can only hope that factors away from Iraq will come into play.

On the dialogue with the Iraqi political blocs, Nechirvan Barzani stressed "dialogue is always required with the Iraqi political parties and all political forces to achieve mutual understanding."

That’s hard to say, but the Central Bank of Iraq has made a statement that they are no longer going to hold auctions and they will keep the rate of the Dinar at 1325 until the close of business on Sunday, January 7th. Why did they make this statement, and what is going to happen on the 8th? There is a lot of speculation and since it’s only about a week away, we will know soon."

Fox News guests and hosts have accused the media of deliberately trying to cause a recession to undermine President Donald Trump’s re-election prospects. Stocks plummeted last Wednesday after the U.S. bond market fired off a warning sign with an inverted yield curve, which reflects long-term interest rates on bonds dropping below short-term interest rates.

An inversion of the yield curve indicates that bondholders are spooked by the prospects of short-term bonds and are instead putting their money into long-term bonds, and has preceded every U.S. recession since World War II.

For its part, the Trump administration is downplaying fears of a possible recession, which is defined by negative GDP growth for two consecutive quarters.

“We have the strongest economy by far in the world. The tariffs have caused nothing, or very little. I don’t see a recession. The world is in a recession right now … China is doing very poorly,” Trump said to reporters in New Jersey on Sunday, referring to the tariffs his administration has levied on foreign imports from China.

Trump has gone so far as to even suggest to aides that the Federal Reserve Bank, the media and other countries are all conspiring against him to cause a recession specifically to target him, The New York Times reported.

However, research has shown that the media have little influence on the economy.

There are also articles out that say only about 20% of Iraqi citizens have bank accounts. So that means a lot of physical currency is outside of the banks. So that could not be collected in destroyed until it is turned into the banks.

So there is a significant amount of money that is outside the banking system in physical currency in fact the article I posted the other day clearly gave numbers ranging from a few trillion to 40 trillion.

Anywhere in that range is too much for Iraq to revalue the currency significantly. I use the word significantly because certainly they could revalue a small amount, but they certainly couldn't support any significant revalue

Last night at around midnight Arizona time, the website for the Central Bank of Iraq went down. They normally post the daily exchange rates at 2:30 am (again, AZ time). However, when 2:30 came and went, with the site still being down it made us wonder.

After our local “geek” did some investigating we found that the site was not down due to circumstances such as weather, or bad connections. It was taken down by someone at the CBI.

For this reason, along with all the recent news good economic news (Foreign Investment Law passed, the Hydrocarbon Law being voted on, the 10K Dinars being distributed to their citizens, and much, much more) we have decided to suspend sales immediately.

We have taken our entire inventory off the site, and any checks that come in after this announcement, or that haven’t been cashed will be placed on hold.

Because of the fact that NOBODY can get the current exchange rate of the Dinar, I would assume that no dealer, including Chase Bank is currently selling.

If and when CBI posts the rates, and if they are new (like we have all been waiting for) we will send out a new email, and depending on what the rate is, we will either be selling Dinar, buying Dinar, or retiring from the business!

Of course we hope the latter, and we also hope that many of you will also be able to retire or at least live your dreams.

Iraq participated in the Middle East Strategic Alliance (MESA) meetings kicked off on Wednesday at the headquarters of the US State Department in Washington.

chattels   The group PAX released a survey on security in Iraq in July 2019. It interviewed 1,429 people in Basra, Kirkuk and Salahaddin. The last two were post-war zones, while Basra provided the perspective of Iraqis not directly involved in the conflict. It found that people generally thought the country was better off, although there was some trepidation about the future.

In general, respondents felt better about their safety. When asked how would you rate your personal security 60% said they were safer versus 40% who said the opposite.

When asked why, 92% said they felt less exposed to attacks, 76% said they saw fewer weapons, 53% said they could travel more, and 48% said they could leave their home feeling safe. 65% told the survey teams this situation was unchanged from 2018, with only 14% saying things had gotten worse.

Two years after the war against the Islamic State ended, and with attacks at the lowest level in the country since 2003 these responses should not be surprising. Even in Kirkuk and Salahaddin where the militants were still active, they are limited mostly to rural areas, and do not affect most of the population.

Kaperoni   The principal of the auctions is to maintain a "balance" between dinar and dollars to create stability. Currently, the CBI has maintained a 2% or less difference between the official rate and market rate as a result for some 16 months.

Kaperoni   If you were to remove the dinar it would create an "imbalance" and create demand. Therefore, the market rate would rise as a result of that demand. So not only does the auction provide a source of dollars to pay for imports, and a revenue for the CBI (commissions) but it is a tool of the CBI.

And for that reason, they cannot remove the dinar at this time until the have an alternative to replace the auctions. That alternative could be a market economy and convertible currency that is accepted and traded worldwide.

Kaperoni   That is why they cannot significantly reduce the money supply in Iraq. That is why a float makes sense. Because once in Article VIII, and floating the CBI can use it's new tools to buy/sell currency and reduce the dinar gradually.
