Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A member of the Parliamentary Economic and Investment Commission, MP Noura al-Bajari, confirmed on Wednesday that the initiative to revalue and delete zeros from the Iraqi Dinar is ready for implementation by the Central Bank although it will be delayed by five years given the political and security situation of Iraq.

In an interview with IraqiNews.com al-Bajari said “The policy to delete zeros from the Iraqi currency is ready to be executed by the Central Bank, however, its implementation will be delayed by 5 years on the basis of the extreme security and political situation of the country.”

Al-Bajari said that the head of the Central Bank of Iraq had previously said that this policy from parliament was accepted and that the zeros will be deleted from the Iraqi currency in the next 5 years.

ChrisC:  IMO Trump is making it right all over the world whether they really want him to make it right or not.  However, accident, coincidence, or plan cooked up by Dr. Evil, we have a bomb about to go off with the banks that nobody knows is there except James Bond.

Eagle1958:  Spot on.  Imo, the cbi is not without fault here.  If i were the citizens, id be on the doorsteps of the cbi building ready to burn it down next. ChrisC:  What isn't FULLY appreciated by most here is the chainsaw juggling act that is going on right now.  ALL of these saws are running full blast and could cut the arm off of the juggler.  Front and center for most is the Iraq/Iran situation and, understandably, most think it is all about that.  It is NOT imo.  There is the banking collapse which now some of you are more aware of and some wish I would quit mentioning.  Some deer stand in the road and some don't.  There is the GROSS amount of corruption in our govt tied to the GROSS corruption in the EU.  Trump is juggling all of these chainsaws all while having a bunch of chihuahuas chewing on his legs with the threat of impeachment.  If any of you think he took this job on out of greed or ego, you are wrong.  IMO.

No one in Iraq today, especially the younger generation, who did not know the details of the previous tyranny, wants to overthrow the current "regime". These oppressed youth (poor, deprived, obstructed horizons) want a "system" that serves their interests (the legitimate "interests" of ordinary "citizens"). The extravagant homeland cake, strangled by knives from all over the world, has nothing in their stomachs and those of their hungry families.

They only discovered (in a moment of noble anger) the meaning (and magnitude) of the lies that had been inflicted on them for nearly two decades of lost age and lost time. This "system" that exists now is simply not a system and the reasons are as follows:

• The current political “regime” in Iraq, now in power and wealth, is unable to offer anything positive to its citizens, except for the few “lucky” ones.

This ruling system cannot create jobs, because it is a system based entirely on oil revenues and neglects other "core" productive sectors, which are the main creators of income and jobs.

This "system" cannot promote the basic productive sectors, because it depends on the financing of the reasons for its survival on the "arms" import everything, and therefore does not allow, and will not allow, to produce anything. The sources of power and wealth here come mainly from the revenue from imports. A foreign "importer" kills the national "product", especially if the importation is unstable, and is not subject to sound economic account logic.

• This "system" finances its imports through the receipt of oil revenues, and then distributed a significant part of them to the "commercial arms" associated with it. These robust economic "arms" break all foreign trade "joints" and controls through their (direct and indirect) control of all of Iraq's "trade" outlets with the world.

The most that this regime can do for its citizens is an unfair and inefficient distribution of more than half of the oil revenues as "privileges" for a few "beneficiaries", as well as "disguised" unemployment benefits for a vast army of employees and retirees, and a distribution of Remains of the "crumbs" on those covered by the social "maintenance" system.

• This system is not "young". This system is aging every day by a thousand years.

The “protesters” demands for the disastrous performance of this system for sixteen years are not “demands” of a “one dimension” for a “one spectrum” population. They are “multidimensional” rights that shape the future destiny of the entire people. The existing political system is able to contain it easily, and use it to reproduce the "faces", "arrangements" and "systems" themselves and to "recycle" them again.

• This “system” cannot provide a solution to any problem, however minor. This is a crisis system. Its crisis lies in its severe imbalance and its structural social stress, due to the very conditions of its formation.

• This “system” is a big and serious “problem”. Can this “problem” itself be the source of the solution? This is what you will answer for the coming days.   LINK

ChrisC:  This is WHY  the protests were initiated.  I am paraphrasing, but it is like in our Declaration of Independence where it says people are willing to take a certain level of abuse just to stay with something that they know, 

" But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security". 

The people had to be shown they aren't sheep because Iran says they are.  If they had been given wealth without realizing this then Iran would have kept stealing from them and bullying them.  They aren't going to bully them anymore and we can withdraw with a greater degree of safety now.  IMO.

This is the world we live in, and there are times when rising up is necessary if freedom is to be accomplished... While this occurs, lives will be lost... It is not just about the money... Suzie:  I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around any kind of monetary ri/rv at the present time with all the upheaval going on.  The time to have done this was after the FIRST protest/demonstration where the GOI knew the people were serious.  Now it's showing me how little they care.  After a dozen plus years on this speculative investment I've seen things get close but "no cigar".  They need to act and act now before they totally implode, JUST MY OPINION..... 

ChrisC:  I can use all sorts of analogies all day with this....we are the Untouchables, Iran is Capone, we are the Fellowship of the Ring and Iran is Sauron and the orcs, etc., we are Van Helsing and Iran is Dracula, but the best to understand the situation is our own Revolution.  Iran HAD to be removed and that means all of their govt puppets as well as their militias. 

Things are NOT bad and they are NOT going to implode.  NOTHING was EVER going to work if Iran had not been removed and now they are on their way out and if they drag, I am sure we will help the Iraqis with a boot courtesy of the Red, White and Blue. 

Gentle people think things get done by hugging it out, I get that, but it isn't reality. 

The protesters died to give their children, their wives, their moms and dads, and their fellow countrymen and women a future.  Nobody wants to die, but I am sure many of them would have echoed Patrick Henry "Give me Liberty or give me Death" and Nathan Hale when he said "I regret that I have but one life to give for my Country!". 

They are heroes and will be remembered by all Iraqis for their sacrifice.  IMO.

People revolt because of poverty, hunger, corruption, injustice, etc. They revolt in order to improve their living conditions and lives, and often the central link is that they have access to honest jobs, sufficient income and good services. These are all things that can be provided with varying degrees of ease or difficulty, depending on the country's resources and the ability of its people to work. The quality of life can be improved without the need for a magic wand in the hands of the ruler or administrator. I say this about practical experience. I worked to increase the salaries of the staff of the media network when I took over, taking advantage of the legal tools that were available then, including the financial capacity of the state. I did not need a magic wand, but a legal article in force!

The people in this revolution against hunger, poverty, talm and corruption are absolutely right and cannot and should not be blamed for this.

They are waiting for the existing and ruling authorities in their country to do something to satisfy them, remove injustice and injustice from them, and fight the corruption that impoverished them and discriminated against them. When the authorities fail to do so, people revolt not only against hunger, but also against the authorities. Here is the sound of the popular slogan: People want to overthrow the regime.

But for this slogan to be feasible, the people must know the alternative system that can actually improve their standard of living, otherwise it is not reasonable for a person to demolish a house without equipping the alternative house.

Samson: The US Embassy issues a strong warning to its citizens about travel and movement in Iraq

The United States Embassy in Iraq has warned Americans not to travel to Baghdad and the country's major cities, amid protests in the capital and a number of central and southern provinces.

The embassy said on its website that "large-scale demonstrations started Friday, and US citizens may see an intensive police presence, and as in previous demonstrations, it is possible to close roads in all major cities, including the Green Zone in central Baghdad."

The embassy said that the measures to be taken in accordance with the travel advice in May 2019, requires to avoid travel to major cities of Iraq, with the exception of the Kurdistan region, and avoid places of demonstrations and compliance with the instructions of the authorities and monitor the local media for new news.

The embassy expressed its "regret over the loss of life and condolences to the families of the victims, wishing the speedy recovery of the wounded security forces and protesters." She called on all parties to renounce violence and restraint, stressing that "peaceful demonstration is a fundamental right in all democracies, but there is no room for violence in demonstrations by any of the parties."   LINK

SurfsUp:  I dont understand what guru came up with the idea of, " if the people show good behavior then we will finally give them what they want." Show me the article that said that. These citizens imo have shown nothing  but patience as they have watched and suffered their entire lives and been robbed by politicians. Now, all of a sudden they are asked to be good little boys and girls, as if they are two year olds, and behave and just trust their govt. Does this really sound logical? I dont know what the answer is, but imo being peaceful is not what these people understand and has, and will get them nothing. Chappy86:  Corruption, after it is embedded does not get dislodged easily. It's the same corruption we have here in the US. It does not want to give up its territory or the financial gains it has staked out. If evil is not removed early and allowed to coexist it becomes deep-rooted. The total number of injuries (974) mostly cases of suffocation due to the use of tear gas.

3 - Burning the headquarters of Asaib and the stream of old wisdom and the Dawa Party and the Bashaer movement and the Virtue Party and Badr organization in the province of Muthanna, burning the headquarters of the Dawa party in the province of Wasit and storming the house of the governor of Wasit, and burning the province of Dhi Qar by demonstrators.

4. The use of rubber bullets and tear gas by the security forces to disperse the demonstrators in Tahrir Square.

5. Thousands of demonstrators gather in front of the governorates of Wasit, Najaf, Diwaniya, Dhi Qar, Maysan, Basra, Muthanna and security forces to prevent them from entering.

The rate changes at RD/RV.........the rate may also change at RI and I believe it will.....For example, RD/RV = .83-1.19, RI = 3.22+........At RI, Iraq is moved to Article VIII by definition and Forex and banks will get online.....At RD/RV, this may be "in country" only which means Iraq is not officially moved to Article VIII......

RD/RV happen simultaneously by definition.......RD/RV/RI could all happen simultaneously......I just don't think so......

I believe RD/RV, no RI, no Article VIII announcement --->budget passes at RV rate --->RI announcement at 3.22+ and move to Article VIII........budget purchasing power now multiplied 3-4x's.........This is where Iraq benefits.....

Remember, Iraq receives USD for oil.......the USD is converted to IQD through the CBI when authorized by the MOF in accordance with the budget....Until authorized, Iraq does not possess IQD per say......The RD/RV has to happen when Iraq "coffers" do not contain much, or any IQD.......The RI can then occur when they do or when approved in the budget......Is this perhaps why very little or any of the 2020 budget allowances for projects and investments have been authorized????  To date, the predominant authorizations appear to have been for payroll.

As to "after the first of the year", I didn't state that.  It may be but I just think the RI will be after the budget is passed......I just want everyone to be aware of this very possible scenario so they can act accordingly.

Personally, if we see the RD/RV between now and 11/01 with no Article VIII RI announcement, I will exchange a little at a broker and continue to watch and wait.....

The Iraqi Government has said it will exempt small- and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) from income tax for ten years.

In a statement, it said:

“The government announced a draft amendment to Income Tax Law No. 113 of  1982 to exempt several groups on low-income from paying income tax.

“The proposed amendment also exempts small and medium size businesses from paying income tax for ten years.

“The government also announced that a dedicated team at the Prime Minister’s Office will be responsible for receiving complaints from citizens and will work to remove obstacles caused by red tape.”

The move is the latest in a series of reforms announced by the government in response to continuing protests in the country.   LINK

The Sadrists officially rallied strongly to take part in demonstrations next Friday, 25 October 2019.

This is called by the page of Saleh Mohammed al-Iraqi on social networking sites, which is close to the leader of the Sadr movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, as I asked all the Sadrists to be prepared on Thursday night to start Friday demonstrations.

Al-Sadr asked the administrators and workers, especially the Special Office of the Sadrist movement, as well as the political body and the bloc of Saron and Peace Brigades, the grassroots and the "special security" as well as the service committee to remain fully prepared and ready for every emergency.

Sadr demanded his followers to be prepared for "every order" from the night of Thursday next 26 of the month of zero and to another notice; because of what Iraq is going through the circumstances of the revolution and the threat to him, according to what came on the page.

The statement concluded by stressing the followers of Sadr and all those who appealed for the implementation of the resolution without delay.

In another context, Iraqi media said that Sadr will deliver a speech on Friday in Tahrir Square and is expected to ask his followers to continue to wear white shrouds and stand in front of the demonstrations to prevent any march towards the Green Zone.    link

Saleh Mohammed al-Iraqi, close to Sadr's leader Moqtada al-Sadr, announced Tuesday that six groups are on standby for the upcoming demonstrations on Friday.

Saleh al-Iraqi said on his Facebook site:

The political body of the Sadrist movement held an extensive meeting with members of the parliamentary bloc of Sairon in the headquarters of the body in Baghdad.

And discussed the President of the Commission Nassar al-Rubaie with the attendees the most prominent issues on the Iraqi arena in addition to tweets Muqtada al-Sadr to come up with common visions that serve the reality of Iraq. The attendees stressed the full commitment to the directives and orders of Sadr and everything issued by him.   LINK

Samson:  Abadi demands the government to resign and apologize from the people

The leader of the Victory Coalition, former Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, demanded the government to resign, calling for at the same time to apologize to the people.

Abadi said in a tweet on his Twitter account: "The government report did not disclose the real actors that ordered the killing of demonstrators."

He added: "The government should resign and apologize from the people for the crime committed against unarmed citizens, especially since their targeting took place in more than one province and in more than one location, which shows that the guidance was from a central high." Given the current military developments in Syria and the latest US decision to withdraw its troops from northern Syria, and the impact of this resolution on Iraq, it is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday - Iraq During his visit, Mark Esper will meet with Adel Abdul Mahdi, Commander-in-Chief of the Iraqi Armed Forces and the Prime Minister of Iraq.

On the military developments, the two ministers will discuss the military situation in Syria and Iraq, and the withdrawal of US forces from northern Syria, part of which will move towards the Kurdistan region of Iraq, and the other heading towards the US base of Al-Assad in Anbar province to select - later - those forces withdrawn from northern Syria To the State of Kuwait.

This was confirmed by the brief statement issued by the Joint Iraqi Operations Command, said on Tuesday that US forces were not granted permission to remain in Iraq, and that their entry from Syria was intended to move out of Iraq. 

The Joint Operations Command, the highest command formation to manage the various Iraqi military and security formations, and supervised by Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, said in a press statement that "the media reported on the withdrawal of US troops from Syria towards Iraq." He added: "We show here that all US forces that have withdrawn from Syria, got approval to enter the Kurdistan region, to move out of Iraq," stressing that "there is no approval to stay these forces inside Iraq."

The two ministers will also discuss the strategic framework agreement between Iraq and the United States, and will discuss the legitimate concern of the government and military leadership of the entry of ISIS criminals into Iraqi territory, and work to coordinate efforts in the face of the threat of ISIS terrorist. Days before the start of the Turkish military operation, SDF tried to use the card of prisoners belonging to the terrorist organization "Daesh" as a pressure card on the international community to discourage Turkey from entering the area east of the Euphrates, but Ankara did not pay attention to this matter, where it considers the presence of "protection units The Kurdish people on their borders are a grave threat to their national security. 

The SDF, which is dominated by Kurdish units, has not long since implemented its threat. Transport Minister Abdullah Laibi said on Wednesday the arrival of the Iraqi ship Al-Hadba to the port of Los Angeles to announce a new Iraqi sea line (Basra-Los Angeles).

The humpback arrived at the ports of Los Angeles, California's largest city southwest of the Pacific coast, and passed all international maritime safety tests applied by US ports, Laibi said in a statement.  He confirmed that the hunchback sailed for days through the ports of Canada and unloaded its cargo in the ports of Los Angeles.

He added that the Iraqi shipping ships are determined to reach all the ports of the world and open more maritime lines.   LINK

A report issued by the House of Representatives, to reach Iraq's financial revenues during the past 18 years and one thousand five hundred trillion dinars "about one trillion dollars

The report, which was seen by the "Economy News," that "Iraq's revenues from 2001 to 2018 amounted to 1155 trillion dinars, of which 1022 trillion dinars were spent while surplus 133.2 trillion dinars

He added that Iraq's revenues from 2004 to 2018 amounted to 1136 trillion dinars, but these funds did not bear fruit on the ground when calculating the projects implemented, we find that 25% of them were implemented and the rest was completely wasted between administrative corruption and projects not implemented due to the deterioration of the security situation

He stressed that the total advances as of December 2017 amounted to 112.5 trillion dinars

The report pointed out that the actual revenues of Iraq from 1980 to 2000 amounted to 3.1 trillion dinars, while expenditures were 5.6 trillion dinars, with a deficit of 2.3 trillion dinars

He pointed out that Iraq achieved the highest deficit in its budget in 1982 by 9.5 billion dinars, while due to the Iran-Iraq war, the real deficit reached 150%    LINK

In today's trading, the stock exchange recorded a decline of the general index by 0.62% to reach 479.48 points

And achieved one company profits in the trading of shares is the Iraqi seed production if the share price of 5.7 dinars, while the most losers were the Islamic Bank of the tender and the Gulf Insurance and Investment Bank and the production of ready-made clothes and modern sewing   LINK

"We're Being Robbed" - Central Bank 'Stimulus' Is Really A Huge Redistribution Scheme

When an economy turns from expansion to contraction there is an order of events. The first signs are an unexpected increase in inventories of unsold goods, both accompanied with and followed by business surveys indicating a general softening in demand. For monetarists, this is often confirmed by an inverting yield curve, which tells them that at the margin the short-term rates set by the central bank are becoming too high for business conditions.

That was the position for the US 10-year bond less the 2-year bond very briefly at the end of August, since when this measure, which is often taken to predict recessions, has turned mildly positive again. A generally negative sentiment, fueled mainly by the escalating tariff war between America and China, had earlier alerted investors to an international trade slowdown, expected to undermine the American economy in due course along with all the others. It stands to reason that backward-looking statistics have yet to reflect the global slowdown on the US economy, which is still buoyed up by consumer credit. The German economy, which is driven by production rather than consumption is perhaps a better guide and is already in recession.

After an initial hit, a small recovery in investor sentiment is understandable, with the negative outlook perhaps having got ahead of itself. But we must look beyond that. History shows the combination of a peak in the credit cycle and tariffs can be economically lethal. A brief return to a positive yield curve achieves little more than a sucker rally. It may be enough to put further monetary expansion on pause. But when that is over, and jobs begin to be threatened, there can be no doubt that central banks will ramp up the printing presses.

So reliant have markets become on monetary expansion that the default assumption is that an economy will always be rescued from recession by an easing of monetary policy, and furthermore that monetary inflation will prevent it from being any more than mild and short. We see this in the performance of stock market indices, which reflect perpetual optimism.

There is a further problem. Other than a rise in bankruptcies, unemployment and negative indications from business surveys, there may be no statistical evidence of a slump. The reason this is almost certainly the case is we are dealing with a combination of funny money and statistics which are simply not fit for measuring anything. The money and credit are backed by nothing, and when expanded by the banking system simply dilutes the quantity of existing money, which if continued is bound to end up impoverishing everyone with cash balances and whose wages and profits do not increase at least as fast as the surge in the quantity of money.

Indeed, the official purpose of the expansion of money and credit is to somehow persuade economic actors that things are better than they really are, and to stimulate those animal spirits. You’d think that with this policy now being continually in operation that people would have become aware of the dilution fraud. But as Keynes, the architect of it all said, not one man in a million understands money, and in this he has been proved right.

As for Kuwait, there was never any revaluation, during the occupation the KWD was removed as the national currency and then reinstated.

During that time the Central Bank of Kuwait still operated in exile and they never changed anything, a revaluation can only come from the Central Bank, anything else is speculation.

This is how the reinstated value came about.  "The banks were instructed to set their accounts at their August 1, 1990 levels, and to pay interest on savings and fixed deposit accounts for the entire period of the occupation."...

The Association of Lebanese Banks, in a brief statement, that "the doors of banks will remain closed tomorrow (today) Tuesday, waiting for the restoration of the general situation in the country

It is the fourth consecutive day that banks have closed in Lebanon after Friday, Saturday and Monday. Sunday is a public holiday in the country

Since Thursday, Lebanon has witnessed angry demonstrations at several points in Beirut and other cities, after the government announced the inclusion of new taxes in the budget next year, affecting the free telecommunications sector via mobile phones, and others, in order to provide new revenues to the state treasury

US President Donald Trump says the US military has entered Syrian territory on a 30-day mission to fight ISIS but has been in the country for 10 years.

"They were supposed to be there for 30 days. They were supposed to come into the country and take a quick strike against IS and get out, but they have already been there in Syria for 10 years," Trump told a news conference on Monday.

A US newspaper quoted a senior US official as saying that President Trump has been considering since last week about the survival of about 200 "commandos" in the north-east of Syria to fight terrorism, noting that the US forces that will be kept along the border with Iraq, outside " The safe zone "agreed between US Vice President Mike Pence and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.    LINK

Trump talks about a preliminary deal with China and is optimistic he will sign soon

US President Donald Trump has spoken of progress in drafting an initial trade agreement with China, likely to be signed next month.

Trump remains optimistic about the chances of Beijing and Washington reaching a mini-deal, announced earlier this month, in a sign of improvement in easing the escalation over the devastating trade war between the two countries. Trump said at the White House: "We believe we will be able to sign a complete document with China on the first phase."

US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer said efforts to forge the deal ahead of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Chile next month were "on track", although there are still some things that have not been finalized. "Our goal is to finish the first phase of the agreement before your departure to Chile," Lighthizer told Trump.

Trump said he expected the initial agreement to be signed on the sidelines of the summit when he meets Chinese President Xi Jinping. Although little detail has been given about the mini-deal, it includes China's increased purchases of US agricultural products, as well as intellectual property, financial services and currency exchange, according to the White House. Trump said on Monday that the Chinese were "starting to buy."    LINK

MoeApollo:  Neophyte to finance question here lol So, in the event there's a crash of any kind, is it wise to say one's money would be safe in these types of banks?  

StephenMac63:  Logic would suggest that you could be better protected with monies in a bank with no derivatives. Its usually when a large portion of the banking industry "over-extends" itself is when they get into trouble, especially when a large portion is in risk, such as real estate. If there are banks that extend too much and the real estate market crashes, the banks in this example will also have trouble.

Many reasons for bank failure, ie, market downturn, mismanagement but much of it can be controlled with principles. Bank examiners come into play.

After seeing the list of all the banks with over extending, which is caused in part by being able to loan more than the deposits they have,id feel safer with a bank that doesnt make loans therefore reducing risks of failure.
