Rommy:  Very fascinating!  Timing! IMO - Inside Iraq a dinar is a dinar.  There will be no advantage to having a 25K IQD WHEN the purchasing power arrives. They wont be necessary.  For example ONLY, would US citizens carry around 25K dollar notes?  No way.  Making purchases for things like groceries or buying a hamburger somewhere would be a nightmare. Handing the cashier a 25K dollar note would be rejected because they would not be able to make change.  Same scenario in Iraq when the purchasing power is increased.  Here come the small note lower denoms!

Salamon69:   They are using this to get Iraqi Citizens in the mindset of NEW CURRENCY....And the CBI is indirectly also talking to the rest of the world.   WOW !

MarkPam:  There is an educational process to this new presentation of foreign currency notes.  To claim there is no design to what the CBI is doing is ignorance in its perspective.  Frank shared about the trucks full of LD's IHO.  Couple that with the documentation/receipt received by the various banks around Iraq indicates a step in execution of that strategy regardless of the political activities of the GOI.

It is clear to me that the introduction of the lower notes is upon us and the CBI is using these demonstrations as part of the training for both the citizens and banking personnel of the categories of lower notes about to be presented.  Remember, it must not fail with the citizens and by providing visual aids in the form of other countries currency is a brilliant move to demonstrate that Iraq is not alone in moving to this denomination change. 

 It will show that Iraq is entering a new paradigm of change that reflects its ability to utilize international standards of currency similar to those of other countries unifying Iraq in demonstrative practice of their new currencies.  All IMO...

GodServant:   Turkmenistan also showed another countries notes just prior to them pulling the trigger. I am excited that the CBI is following the Turkmenistan script. IMO they are further educating the citizens of what is next to come. They use other countries smalls to avoid the counterfeiters that wait in the wings.  As you said Pics and Descriptions are next Immediately followed by the distribution. Pete2001:  I commented as soon as it came out...huge news...post 150...cause it happened before when they were introducing the 250's etc. using another foreign currency....additionally who in the heck in Iraq would have Belerus currency...few citizens so they could care less....so they CBI imo is not doing it for that reason....bet our Fed Reserve...doesn't do that for currencies of other countries

It is not as though that currency is being traded on the Iraqi market on a consistent basis... When I woke up this morning and saw that article on the CBI it just brought a BIG SMILE TO MY FACE !

I knew that this is big and the timing is so OBVIOUS as Frank has taught us very very well !

So they are indirectly letting the citizens know that just like the new 100 Franc,   the Iraqi Dinar new notes will coexist with the old notes.    Just as our great teacher Frank and team have told us !!!

To me this is the shot across the BOW !   And puts us on schedule to see the pictures and descriptions of the new lower denoms for Iraq very very soon....   Like clockwork and a well TIMED ROLLOUT

Foxrun:  For me IMHO, of course, the day the small category notes are verified delivered to the private banks by WS's firm will be a most exciting day almost as exciting as the actual rate change. This verification will be tangible evidence of intent by the CBI to change the rate.

Doodlebug: Family, when this Article was first given to us by Walkingstick (thank you Sir) in 2018, it was HUGE! It was a great example of what a successful currency reform might look like. There were students here that took this article very seriously and studied it daily... and some still do to this to this day. 

Last night during the Conference Call, Frank and Walkingstick mentioned this article again. This wasn't mentioned just for the heck of it. Here, just look at this part of the article and see if it sounds familiar:

"Important as all these preparations are, the success of a currency reform depends just as much on a successful public education campaign. The central bank needs to coordinate this campaign with other agencies, financial sector representatives, merchants, and the general public. A delicate balance must be struck between providing sufficient public information and the need for confidentiality to avoid releasing clues to counterfeiters that could be used to undermine the integrity of the new currency."

Doodlebug:  Doesn't all this sound so familiar? Or here, how about this one:

The key stakeholders, under the leadership of the central bank, should develop a detailed plan for distribution of the new currency. They must identify exchange points (places where the public can exchange the old money for new and where cash currency can be stored temporarily); establish facilities for more permanent storage of currency, such as vaults and strongboxes; and address various logistic issues, including exchange point staffing.

I highly recommend to all new Members of KTFA to go and read this article. Familiarize yourself with what a successful currency reform looks like. ChrisC:  A thought just ran through my head, as they occasionally do, and I want to encourage all of y'all (as we Texans say) to not lose sight of the WHOLE picture. 

Some you guys played football and this is the best example I can give of not doing this.  There is a term called "crack back" in football.  That is when you put a wide receiver out like he is going for a pass but he comes back and tries to knock the helmet off of a defensive end or linebacker when they are too focused on causing bodily harm to the quarterback. 

We did this one time to a guy that was trying to hurt our quarterback and he cried like a little girl when he got hit and that was the end of that. 

DO NOT focus so hard on Iraq that you don't see somebody coming up on you.  I will say this again, IMO,  whatever "delay" we might be experiencing is Trump's timing of the imminent collapse of the banking system. 

The repo bailouts are projected to hit 500 billion by next week.  Iraq is not in a vacuum and this deal is coordinated with, and connected to, more than we probably know.

So,  the rv starts gaining momentum and Iran attacks Saudi Arabia and there is a pause because of instability. 

Then,  once things settle down and things appear to be getting close enough that we can taste it, protests which had been peaceful for years suddenly become violent,  causing a constitutional crisis in Iraq and left the govt teetering. There are also numerous reports that Iran had activated sleeper cells to shoot live rounds at protesters. Again,  there appears to be a pause to the RI during the turmoil. 

I'm not guaranteeing anything,  because this is pure opinion based on incomplete information,  but if I had to put my money down on who the wizard is behind the curtain throwing monkey wrenches into the gears of the RI, I'd pick Iran everytime.

World Bank data confirmed that Iran's foreign debt in 2018, fell 6.5 percent year on year, despite the US embargo.

The data showed that Iran's debts declined to 6 billion 323 million and 900 thousand dollars at the end of 2018, down from 6 billion 761 million and 100 thousand dollars recorded in 2017, a decrease of 437.2 million dollars.

Iran's foreign debt as of the end of 2018 included $ 381.8 billion in long-term debt, $ 3.958 billion and $ 800,000 short-term debt, as well as $ 1.983 billion and $ 400,000 international credit lines, it said.

It was our normal Thursday morning business meeting at our real-estate office. No big deal. Before the meeting we hung around the bagel table, as usual, with our coffee. He stood aside, looking a little shy and awkward and very young, a new face in a room full of extroverted salespeople.

An average looking guy, maybe 5 feet 8 inches. A clean-cut, sweet-faced kid. I went over to chat with him. Maybe he was a new salesman?

He said he was just back from Kabul, Afghanistan. A Marine. Our office (and a local school) had been supportive by sending letters to him and other troops, which he had posted on the American Embassy door in Kabul. He stood guard

He had come to our office to thank us for our support, for all the letters during those scary times. I couldn't believe my ears. He wanted to thank us? We should be thanking him. But how? How can I ever show him my appreciation?

At the end of the sales meeting, he stepped quietly forward, no incredible hulk. As a matter of fact, he looked for all the world 15 years old to me. (The older I get, the younger they look.)

This young Marine, this clean-faced boy, had no qualms stepping up to the plate and dodging bullets so that I might enjoy the freedom to live my peaceful life in the land of the free. No matter the risk.

Suddenly the most stressful concerns of my life seemed as nothing, my complacency flew right out the window with his every word. Somewhere, somehow, he had taken the words honor, courage and commitment into his very soul and laid his life on the line daily for me and us.

A man of principle. He wants to do it. Relishes it. And he came to thank us? For a few letters? I fought back the tears as he spoke so briefly and softly.

He walked forward to our manager and placed a properly folded American flag in his hands. It had flown over the Embassy. He said thanks again. You could hear a pin drop. As I looked around I saw red faces everywhere fighting back the tears.

In a heartbeat, my disillusionment with young people today quickly vanished. In ordinary homes, in ordinary towns, kids like him are growing up proud to be an American and willing to die for it. Wow.

We'll frame the flag and put it in the lobby. He only came to my office once, for just a few minutes. But I realize I rubbed shoulders with greatness in the flesh and in the twinkling of an eye my life is forever changed.

He has been a true leader in this battle and a great gentleman. We are asking for prayers for Okie's health and for the miracle of funding to secure the lung transplant. He has been an inspiration to us all and now we need to support him with the miracle of God's hand to resolve his situation.

Elmerf123456:  I personally have not been able to speak to Okie for quite some time now, he has been dealing with health issues and he just simply won’t answer his phone a lot of the times. I’m sure because of people that have persecuted him and posted his phone number in public and all that has add to his stress and the fact that he doesn’t want to talk to anyone is also part of the problem Making it hard to verify current situation.  

The best thing I can say is he is a good man and I’m lifting him up in prayer hope that he gets healthy these RV happens soon.

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iraq's parliament failed on Tuesday to vote on cabinet reshuffles by Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi, including a partial cabinet reshuffle that includes five portfolios.

At the beginning of the session, parliament voted on the candidates of the vacant ministries of education and health only, and differences between parliamentary blocs prevented the vote on the candidates of the ministries of industry, immigration and communications.

Abdul-Mahdi announced on Wednesday in a speech to the people his intention to reshuffle and submit candidates to the House of Representatives at its scheduled meeting today to vote on them.

The reshuffle comes as part of the government's measures to respond to the protesters' demands.

The Mahdi had announced yesterday mourning in the country starting today on the death of more than 110 people, the majority of the demonstrators who fell live bullets during their demand to overthrow the government.

In his speech to the people yesterday, Abdul Mahdi said that the government will ensure the treatment of the injured, which exceeded six thousand people as a result of the demonstrations.

He added that he had ordered the release of all those arrested on Khalifa's recent demonstrations except those with criminal cases, and in his speech he reminded the government of its commitment to carry out its recently announced reforms.

Since October 1, Iraq has witnessed demonstrations that appeared spontaneous and driven by social demands, but were directed at live bullets, and the Iraqi military leadership acknowledged the existence of "excessive use of force."

ChrisC:  You know, events like this are meant to look spontaneous, and they are to the people in the street, but what we are seeing is most likely a piece of an elaborate plan that was made years ago in preparation for this time. 

The coordination of this and the imminent banking collapse is too much for my brain to handle as coincidence.  What happened in '08 is lining itself up again in a big way.

  The homes of Iraqis lack safe drinking water and electricity, and the quality of public services is so low that citizens have no confidence in getting out of hospitals alive, amid a significant drop in education levels. Decrepit roads, infrastructure and transportation often do not suggest that the country receives billions of dollars a month in oil sales.

Since 2004, Iraq's national income has been estimated at more than $ 1 trillion, based on oil revenues exported in the same period.In addition, governments after the occupation received nearly $ 200 billion in grants, loans and various assistance, most of which came from the United States and various European countries.

The e-Conomy Southeast Asia report for 2019 highlights the most significant industry trends observed in 2019 and analyses the current and future potential of the Southeast Asian internet economy across its six largest markets (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Việt Nam). This surge across the region is attributed to an influx of around 100 million new online citizens in the last four years.  This growing market of customers has incentivised businesses in the region, from established ‘unicorns’ like Gojek to smaller enterprises, to adopt and leverage digital tools to expand rapidly.    

Việt Nam's digital economy has topped $12 billion this year and is expected to surge to $43 billion by 2025, with e-commerce, online tourism, online communications and media, and ride-hailing being among the driving forces. Việt Nam has 61 million Internet users, and a Vietnamese spends an average of three hours and 12 minutes daily on the internet on mobile devices such as smartphones.

As a region, Southeast Asian users spend most of their time on social networks and OTT apps (52 per cent), video apps (20 per cent), games (11 per cent), and other working utilities apps. Việt Nam has become the third largest destination in the region for digital investment, with $600 million flowing in in 2018 and the first half of 2019, thanks to Hà Nội and HCM City, which are among the seven major internet economy developing cities in the region.

International investments in local tech firms including MoMo, Sendo and Topica have contributed to making Việt Nam a destination for investors. As the world’s most engaged internet users, Southeast Asia is shaping technology trends. When it comes to services like ride hailing and food delivery, the region is growing as fast as anywhere in the world, and that momentum is only going to continue as a new generation comes of age and people outside big cities come online.

By 2025 the regional Internet economy will have tripled to $300 billion, closing the gap with more developed markets in terms of GDP contribution. The banking sector is waiting for the State Bank of Việt Nam to allow the use of electronic know your customer/client (e-KYC). TPBank was chosen to trial it in January last year.

According to LegalDesk Website, KYC or Know Your Customer is a process an institution employs for customer identification. The Securities Exchange Control board of India (SEBI) laid down that any institute that deals with financial transactions or functions as financial intermediaries needs to verify their customer’s identity under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002.

With banks and mutual funds instituting the KYC process for all its customers, it did help with preventing money fraud and identifying suspicious transaction activity of an account holder. KYC is a one-time process that is mandatory for all people of Indian nationality.

eKYC is the process of an institution getting acquainted with their customer, though electronically. The main objective of electronic KYC is to reduce the use of physical paperwork, storage space for such records and the cost and time taken for the same. eKYC permits filing to happen in real-time. This has made the process streamlined and less prone to corruption in industries such as banking, finance, telecom, etc. whereby several customers can be catered to simultaneously with the use of the world wide web, the web says.

In reality, financial service providers that want to develop digital services are facing an obstacle: they are obliged to physically verify the identity of customers to comply with regulatory requirements. But they need to deliver a customer-friendly experience to keep existing customers and get new ones.  If online verification is made possible, people, especially those who are unbanked, can open new accounts, apply for loans online, take out life insurance policies, and invest in mutual funds, in an era when consumers prefer to interact through online channels. Because of its advantages, e-KYC is expected to create a digital banking boom in Việt Nam, experts say.

Many banks have asked the central bank repeatedly to allow them to adopt e-KYC, but it has yet to do so. A senior bank executive in HCM City, who asked to be unnamed, said to grow digital banking banks should make it easy for prospective customers to open accounts online. Now, people have to bring all personal papers to the bank to confirm their identity when they want to open an account. “This causes difficulties for banks to expand their customer network or provide financial services since people do not want to waste their time over complicated procedures to open a bank account or get other banking services,” the executive said. 

Ngô Văn Đức, deputy head of the payment systems oversight division at the SBV’s payment department, said 63 per cent of Vietnamese adults had bank accounts, but the ability to access banking services is still limited, especially in rural areas. Banking services have been undergoing a rapid process of digital transformation and digitisation, which has fundamentally changed the business models used by banks.

The first foremost aspect is that digital banking lowers transaction costs for banks. For financial institutions, digital banking can help reduce transaction costs by 30-80 per cent. There are estimates that when banks adopt a new advanced technology, despite its costs profits increase disproportionately not to speak of the spike in competitiveness. It also enables banks to integrate a wide variety of services like healthcare, insurance and tourism.

A 2017 survey by IDG Vietnam found that 81 per cent of Vietnamese customers wanted to use e-banking services.

According to figures released last year by the central bank’s payment department, 94 per cent of domestic banks have plans to go digital, with 35 per cent developing their own strategies for digital services. Several banks have launched new banking services after going digital.   Many analysts are convinced the central bank will soon allow e-KYC.

One question that crops up is why has it not done so yet.? The answer may be an insufficient legal framework and high risks. Analysts admitted legal regulations for electronic verification of customers’ identities are not adequate since citizens’ data has yet to be standardised and made consistent. These limitations mean people could easily fake data or carry out cyber attacks.

Some customers said they would not be among the early users of digital authentication technology for financial services since they were afraid of possible security and personal privacy breaches.   But analysts said e-KYC is imperative considering the digital renovation taking place worldwide including in Việt Nam. They even said the Government should allow banks to access the Ministry of Public Security’s national population database to ensure they could safely adopt e-KYC.   LINK

Samson:   Card payments in Vietnam to reach 522.5 million in 2023: GlobalData

Not carrying cash is not a problem in Việt Nam these days as more and more people are flashing the plastic.

Card payments are set to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 17.8 per cent to reach 522.5 million in 2023.

According to data and analytics firm GlobalData’s latest report on Việt Nam, the current 271 million card transaction in 2019 will grow to nearly double over the next three years.

The report named ‘Vietnam Cards & Payments: Opportunities and Risks to 2023,’ reveals the number of card payments increased more than five folds in the last five years, rising from 56 million in 2015 to 271 million in 2019 at a robust compound annual growth rate of 48.3 per cent.

Kartik Challa, Payments Analyst at GlobalData, said: “While Vietnam remains a cash-based society, the government’s financial inclusion initiatives, the emergence of digital-only banks, improved payment infrastructure and the adoption of new payment card technologies have led to the growth of card-based payments.” The expansion of banking infrastructure and the licensing of non-bank companies to offer payment services in rural areas were also instrumental in driving the consumer shift towards electronic payments.

In order to reduce the reliance on cash, the government approved a scheme for the promotion of non-cash payments. As part of this, the government is aiming to bring 70 per cent of the adult population under the formal banking system by 2020. Other objectives include the expansion of point-of-sale infrastructure and increased payments of utility bills through electronic methods.

To further boost non-cash transactions, the State Bank of Việt Nam has granted licenses to 30 non-bank companies as of July 2019 to provide payment services in the country, with most offering services through online and mobile channels. Banks are also expanding their services to both rural and urban locations in the form of new branches, mobile van branches and digital self-service branches. Agribank now runs a fleet of more than 60 mobile banking vans across the country to serve customers primarily in remote areas.

Meanwhile, digital-only banks have also made inroads into Việt Nam during the review period, tapping into the tech-savvy millennial customer base.

Digital-only bank Timo was launched in Việt Nam in 2016 while VPBank’s YOLO followed in September 2018, offering a digital account and a Mastercard debit card. Challa added: “The government’s increasing focus on achieving a ‘less-cash’ economy, the emergence of new payment card technologies such as EMV and contactless, the advent of digital-only banks, and a strong e-commerce market will support the growth of electronic payments during the forecast period.”   LINK
