He added, "Unfortunately, there are continuous smuggling operations of at least 7 million liters of gasoline and 5 million liters of kerosene for the more expensive areas," noting that "the cost of subsidizing oil products sold to citizens annually amounts to 3 trillion dinars, and the citizen deserves support."

Regarding the super gasoline file, he explained that “the ministry is currently importing it at a cost of 1400 dinars per liter and selling it to citizens at a price of 1,000 dinars, as it is covered by subsidies, and since seven o’clock yesterday, stations selling this type of gasoline have been opened and more than 100,000 liters have been sold, and in the event of an increase in demand more than We will open two stations on the Karkh side and the same on the Rusafa side, and currently in every governorate there is a station for selling super gasoline.”

Iraq On The Corner Of “Silk” .. Oil In Exchange For Construction Under The Abdul Mahdi Agreement

Under the new agreement, Chinese companies will build 1,000 schools in Iraq - with a pledge to explore building another 7,000 in the future - and work has begun to build an airport in Nasiriyah, 90,000 homes in Sadr City and 1,000 medical facilities, as well as implementing a comprehensive sanitation improvement process. Oil Prices Take A New Blow

Energy   Economy News – Baghdad Oil prices fell 3% on Thursday evening, after new closures in China reinforced fears that inflation and higher interest rates could lead to a slowdown in demand for oil.

Brent crude futures fell $1.95, or 3.2%, to $92.64 a barrel, and West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell $2.81, or 2.9%, to $86.84 a barrel.

"Demand for oil in the Western world, as well as in China, is slowing, while supplies are gradually increasing, mainly due to the rise in shale oil production in the United States," said Neubert Rucker, analyst at Julius Baer.

The results of surveys published Thursday showed that factory activity in Asia declined in August, as pressures imposed by Corona restrictions in China and rising costs continued to hit business activities, adding to the bleak outlook for the fragile recovery in the region.

Today, the main index of European markets fell to the lowest level in 7 weeks, which increases fears of a sharp interest rate hike and a record rise in inflation in the region.

I imagine yesterdays (Thursday) discussion with the Federal Court covered the items necessary for to or not to dissolve the parliament and or presidencies. Either the court does it  or the USA and with the UN may do it.. 

With the demonstrators on the street at the Supreme Court areas, I'll bet that meeting yesterday in the court was about the dissolution. They may only tell the public next Tuesday, but, that doesn't mean that those in the need to know category are not informed and what took place..

Those people are there in the streets, and they are holding placards, and it is my understanding they are telling those affiliated with Iran in the Judiciary to get out, and  let Iraq be free.

 I also bet there are things from that meeting in the Court that are not yet public that will have a profound impact on what we are waiting for.. A good thing.. The Federal Integrity Commission announced the issuance of a prison sentence and a financial fine against the assistant branch manager of a government bank in Anbar. This is against the background of the case of embezzled funds from the bank.

The department continued, explaining its steps taken after a life sentence was issued against the director of Al-Rafidain Bank - Khalidiya branch. For his participation with his assistant and other employees in embezzling an amount of (50,000,000,000) billion dinars from the bank resulting from the disbursement of pensioners’ money in Anbar to access the embezzled funds.

In cooperation with law enforcement agencies and in accordance with judicial memoranda, a team from the department carried out raids and searches on the homes of the convicts, both the Rafidain Bank branch manager and his assistant, in coordination between the Baghdad Investigation Directorate and the land holding force in Anbar Governorate, where the team was able to find money in one of their homes. The value of more than half a billion Iraqi dinars, in addition to seizing (9) real estate bonds distributed in different areas in Baghdad, pointing out that its continuous operations led to the discovery of a huge multi-storey building in the center of Al-Mansour city and a plot of land in the same location (which belongs to the accused), As well as a 300-square-meter house in the University neighborhood, and (2) real estate apartments outside Iraq and multiple bank accounts.

Wednesday, August 31, 2022, the sixteenth "remotely" periodic meeting of the Financial Stability Task Force in the Arab Countries will open.  It is noteworthy that the team stems from the Board of Governors of Arab Central Banks and Monetary Institutions, and includes in its membership the directors of the financial stability departments of these banks and institutions, in addition to the Arab Monetary Fund, which is responsible for its technical secretariat. 

The meeting of the team will be attended by representatives of regional and international institutions, including: the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Financial Stability Board, the Bank for International Settlements, the Institute for Financial Stability, the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, the International Federation of Deposit Insurance Institutions, the International Federation of Insurance Supervisors, and the European Central Bank and the European Crisis Management Council.

The team contributes to developing policies and tools related to enhancing financial stability in Arab countries, and exchanging expertise and experience among them in this regard. The team also includes preparing a financial stability report in the Arab countries, preparing working papers and studies on the conditions of financial stability in the Arab countries, in addition to contributing to enhancing awareness of financial stability issues through holding seminars and workshops and issuing relevant periodic reports.

At the sixteenth meeting, the team will address a number of important topics that keep pace with the latest developments related to financial stability issues, including stress tests regarding lessons learned from the emerging coronavirus crisis.  In this regard, the role of these tests will be discussed during the pandemic, and the need to develop them in the future, taking into account the emerging risks to the banking sector.  Other aspects related to ways to strengthen the crisis management system in central banks, the role of deposit guarantee institutions in dealing with banking crises, and methods for designing early warning systems in the banking sector will also be discussed.

The topics of the meeting also include discussing a number of new issues related to financial stability in the Arab countries, including: supervisory and regulatory techniques from the perspective of financial stability, the expected impact of the percentage of non-performing credit facilities after lifting the support measures taken by central banks, and the risks of the non-bank financial sector and how to apply stress tests to measure those risks. These topics also include the determinants of banks' profitability, and the impact of high government indebtedness on financial stability.

In the context of the working papers that the team is working on, the experience of the Central Bank of Oman in applying the Financial Stability Index will be discussed. The experiences of Arab countries in adopting the deposit insurance system will also be reviewed. Finally, the discussions will include preparations for the financial stability report in the Arab countries for the year 2023 and progress on preparing the chapters of the report.

On the other hand, and within the framework of the team’s cooperation with international institutions, the Financial Stability Board will present a presentation on the latest developments related to the activities of the Council, especially the topics of the repercussions of the Corona pandemic and cybersecurity. The team will also hear another presentation from the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, on the latest developments related to the activities of the committee, and a third presentation from the Financial Stability Institute on managing banking crises in emerging market economies, in addition to two other presentations from the European Central Bank and the European Crisis Management Council on digital currencies. and crisis management, respectively.

Expect A New Escalation... Western Institutions: Al-Sadr Aspires To "Dominate" Iraqi Politics

Shafaq News/ Political analysts in Western institutions saw, on Wednesday, that the leader of the Iraqi Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, aspires to be the strongest Shiite political leader, noting that his ambition does not stop at "undermining" the regime only, but also "the Shiite house" to achieve his goal.

Renad Mansour, a researcher at the British "Chatham House" Foundation, told AFP, "Al-Sadr aspires to become the most powerful Shiite political actor in Iraq... Since the 2003 US-led invasion that toppled the former regime, Iraq has been run under a sectarian power-sharing system.

At least 30 of al-Sadr's supporters were shot dead and about 600 were wounded during nearly twenty-four hours of clashing with other Shiite factions.

Renad Mansour pointed out that "this is not the first time that he has sent demonstrators and then asked them to withdraw," estimating that "his goal and ultimate goal is to become the main Shiite political force in Iraq."

The Sadrist movement won 73 parliamentary seats in the October elections, making it the largest bloc in the 329-seat parliament.

And a professor at the University of Copenhagen, Fanar Haddad, believes that Al-Sadr has since conducted a series of "failed maneuvers to consolidate his dominance within the political system and remove his rivals."

Muqtada al-Sadr "failed" to form a new government despite attempts to form an alliance with Sunni and Kurdish political actors.

Following this, al-Sadr in June ordered the 73 members of his current party to resign in an attempt to destabilize parliament, but the result was counterproductive, as the move gave the coordination framework new seats to become the largest bloc in the parliament.

Haddad considered the recent events in the Green Zone in Baghdad as another tactical "failure".

He said that "the coordination framework did not issue conciliatory statements or concessions or anything like that" after al-Sadr asked his supporters to withdraw.

"This pushes everyone to a sterile path full of conflicting positions," he added. "The possibility of reconciliation seems weaker, not the other way around."

More escalation

Al-Sadr is famous for retracting previous pledges to retire from politics that he had made over the years.

Sajjad Jiyad, a researcher at Century International, said his recent announcement of his retirement on Monday came after a series of tactical challenges to his political rise, including from within the ranks of his supporters.

Last Sunday, the Shiite cleric, Ayatollah Kazem al-Haeri, who provides a religious cover for al-Sadr and is imitated by many of his loyalists, announced that he would not continue to oppose the marja'iya and called on his imitators to follow the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, which is a blow to Muqtada al-Sadr's legitimacy.

Jiyad considered that this was "an attack on Al-Sadr in his person and as a leader."

He added, "Al-Haeri is a religious guide to Al-Sadr..Muqtada was always keen to say that he does not act on his own, but rather has a religious cover from Al-Hairi."

Jiyad estimated that in the face of mounting challenges, Sadr now has limited options and the least likely is to take a step back.

Al-Sadr may continue to press for the dissolution of parliament and the holding of new elections, and perhaps even escalation through moves that would paralyze the work of ministries and oil fields, according to Sajjad Jiyad.
