Protesters torched the Iranian consulate in the holy city of Najaf in the evening. One protester was killed and at least 35 people were wounded when police fired live ammunition to prevent them from entering the building, a police official said.

The demonstrators removed the Iranian flag from the building and replaced it with an Iraqi one. Iranian staff were not harmed and escaped the building from the back door and authorities imposed a curfew in Najaf. The official spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.

 Energy  Economy News – Baghdad   General Electric plans to establish the GE NetworkS Academy in Iraq to train graduates and engineers.

Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi met with GE CEO Jerome Bekres and his delegation, according to a statement issued by the prime minister's office on Monday.

The prime minister "confirmed his support for the company's projects in the electricity sector, including the (transport networks) project, which the Iraqi government intends to accelerate this year, which includes the construction and rehabilitation of 23 secondary stations with a capacity of 400/132 and 132/33 and mobile stations," the statement added.

The government is seeking to create more than 3,000 jobs in secondary station projects and transportation networks across Iraq in cooperation with the US company, the statement said.

The statement said That General Electric will "help to remove bottlenecks and support the network to improve the delivery of electricity to more than four million homes across Iraq, as well as inject significant resources into the local economy through secondary contracts for implementation."

chattels   ERBIL, Kurdistan Region — The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has fully committed to handing over a daily average of 250,000 barrels of oil in return for its share of the federal budget, after reaching an initial deal with the Iraqi federal government for the year 2020.

A KRG delegation traveled to Baghdad on Monday – its second visit in three days – to reach a deal with central government over Erbil’s share of the budget and its independent oil exports. A deal to handover the 250,000 barrels of oil per day to state oil marketing company SOMO was reached following six hours of discussion.

chattels   “There is now an initial agreement…for the [Kurdistan] Region to handover an average of 250,000 barrels per day of produced oil in the Region to the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company [SOMO], which will supervise its export through the Ceyhan port in Turkey… starting from January 1, 2020,” Iraqi Minister of Oil Thamir Ghadhban told reporters after the meeting.

The agreement on oil forms “one of the important pillars” of the 2020 budget bill, Ghadhban explained.

“In return, there is a budget [bill] being prepared, and the Region’s representatives will be part of it alongside their colleagues in the federal government,” he said.

Delegations will meet in Baghdad to finalize the budget bill proposal next Sunday and Monday, Ghadhban added.

The KRG is pushing for a return of the pre-2014 17 percent federal budget share. Also unclear is who will pay for operation costs of companies operating the Region’s oil fields.

Sandyf   I have never said that. Dual currency is where 2 separate national currencies are used, Vietnam used to be dual currency and Cambodia is also dual currency. They have ATMs that dispense USD and you can walk into a bar and buy a beer with 50 cents. The border areas of Laos are triple currency, USD, Thai baht and the Laos Kip.

What I have said is that in the event of a redenomination dual pricing will come into effect, where both the old and new currencies will be used at the same time in the shops for a period of time. The UK had dual pricing in 1971, you could buy a pint of beer for 2 shillings or 10 pence piece.

Money and business   Economy News _ Baghdad   The value of certificates of origin for Kuwait's non-oil exports increased by 11 percent in October compared to the same month last year, the Kuwaiti Ministry of Commerce and Industry said Thursday.

"Iraq tops the list of arab countries importing the most imported exports from Kuwait, followed by Jordan, Algeria, Lebanon, Yemen, Egypt, Tunisia, while the UAE ranked first in the Gulf, followed by Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Oman and finally Bahrain," the Kuwaiti ministry said in a press release.

"The number of certificates of origin for exports to Arab and foreign countries reached 1,901 certificates worth 16.9 million Kuwaiti dinars (about 55 million U.S. dollars) last October, compared to 1,503 certificates worth 15.2 million dinars (about $50 million) in the same month last year," she said.

"The number of certificates for Kuwaiti exports to Arab countries, excluding the GCC countries, amounted to 482 million dinars (about 20.7 million dollars), compared with 73 certificates worth 2.7 million dinars (about 8.8 million dollars) to foreign countries," it said.

Ministry of Electricity spokesman Ahmed Moussa said the Ministry of Electricity had transferred 33,403 contract holders to permanent owners, noting that 8,700 people had been transferred from wages to contracts.
