Energy Economy News – Baghdad General Electric plans to establish the GE NetworkS Academy in Iraq to train graduates and engineers.
Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi met with GE CEO Jerome Bekres and his delegation, according to a statement issued by the prime minister's office on Monday.
The prime minister "confirmed his support for the company's projects in the electricity sector, including the (transport networks) project, which the Iraqi government intends to accelerate this year, which includes the construction and rehabilitation of 23 secondary stations with a capacity of 400/132 and 132/33 and mobile stations," the statement added.
The government is seeking to create more than 3,000 jobs in secondary station projects and transportation networks across Iraq in cooperation with the US company, the statement said.
The statement said That General Electric will "help to remove bottlenecks and support the network to improve the delivery of electricity to more than four million homes across Iraq, as well as inject significant resources into the local economy through secondary contracts for implementation."
GE Renewable Energy CEO Jerome Bekres revealed the company's intention to establish the GE NetworkS Academy in collaboration with the Ministry of Electricity and the Ministry of Higher Education, which will train and graduate many students and engineers and prepare them for integration into the labor market. http://economy-news.net/content.php?id=18333

Energy Economy News _ Baghdad The China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Company has won a $121 million engineering contract to modernize facilities used to extract gas during oil production at the West Qurna-1 oil field in Basra.
The project, scheduled to be completed within 27 months, aims to boost crude oil production capacity in the oil field, according to a statement issued tuesday by The National Petroleum Corporation of China, the parent company of China Petroleum Engineering and Construction Corporation.
Iraq's West Qurna-1 oil field, developed by ExxonMobil, produces 480,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
