Tishwash:  The Iraqi Central Bank: The dinar is our national currency, and there is no need to deal in dollars

The Central Bank of Iraq confirmed, on Wednesday, that the dinar is the Iraqi national currency, and there is no need to deal in dollars.

This was stated by the Deputy Director General of the Investments Department at the Central Bank of Iraq, Muhammad Yunis, according to the official Iraqi News Agency.

Yunus said, "Small merchants who are not entitled to enter the platform are the ones who buy the dollar and deal at the parallel price and press and form a demand for it. As for the rest of the commercial companies, they enter the platform and conduct their transfers normally and at the official price."

He continued, "The members of the Iraqi Dinar Support Committee are communicating with the security services to implement the instructions of the Council of Ministers and the Central Bank to support the dinar, stabilize the exchange rate, and prevent informal dealings because there is no need to deal in dollars in Iraq."

He emphasized that "those speculating in dollars are violating the law, and dealing with them is done through the Iraqi judiciary."   link

Tishwash:  Industry: We started the electronic payment system in all the formations of the ministry

The Ministry of Industry and Minerals said that it has started implementing the electronic collection system in all its formations. 

The Ministry of Industry said that the electronic collection system has been activated in all its formations through the implementation of the electronic payment mechanism (POS).

According to a statement by the industry, which was seen by "Ultra Iraq", the ministry "activated electronic payment to facilitate procedures and raise the level of services provided, and for this reason the electronic collection system was activated in all formations affiliated with the ministry through the implementation of the electronic payment mechanism (POS) in collecting funds, especially fees." Regarding the services provided by the General Directorate of Industrial Development and the Trademarks Department to industrialists, owners of factories and companies, and to all cards approved by the Central Bank of Iraq (Master Card and Visa).

This came "in order to switch to electronic transactions, collect funds through modern electronic systems, facilitate procedures and provide the best services."

On early May,  he announced the experimental launch of electronic collection in the first education schools of Karkh, Rusafa, and taxes.

Earlier, the Minister of Finance, Taif Sami, directed all the ministry's banks to provide all the necessary facilities for approving POS electronic sales devices in state institutions and the private sector.

The ministry said that granting the devices "is free of charge, at zero percent interest, for a period of 6 months, in addition to providing technical and logistical support and various software supporting the project, as well as training cadres working in this field."

The facilitation package - for the ministry - comes within the framework of the Finance's vision of "acquiring POS electronic payment devices instead of cash and generalizing the experiment to include various economic sectors at the level of Iraq, which it is hoped will start starting from the date of June 1, 2023."   link

MZ: Let’s talk about Iraq:  “ World bank confirms Iraq needs $21 Billion investment in transport sector”  Iraq does not need money – what they is to invest in their infrastructure.

MZ: “Iraq announces plans for $17 billion transportation project linking Asia to Europe” Iraq is becoming a crossroads for the world. A crossroads between the east and the west. This makes them very important.

Member: And Iraq has all the huge agreements they have to fulfill!

Member: Are they still trying to delay the budget?

MZ: I don’t think it is delayed. I think it is all smoke. Remember what they did in Kuwait. They ran articles that same morning that there was unexpected delays and no RV for 6-9 months….then they let it go that same day.

MZ: I am told it was a very late night in Reno last night. I am still hearing as of late last night that they still have great expectations for late tonight into tomorrow morning. They are trying to squeeze it through by the skin of their teeth.

MZ: I am hopeful we are finally going to see it and its not just another “pump and dump” .

MZ: No news from CMKX, PP’s, ect….and Mr. C has not been paid. But Sheila and I are very much looking for things to happen this week. (Sheila is a CMKX.currency contact)

MZ: “Iraq and Russia sign maritime transport agreement”  this is more about Iraq becoming a crossroads for the region…..

MZ: In order for them to be this crossroads- they have to be on the international stage with an international currency.

MZ: Now in Vietnam news:  “ Vietnam is among world’s earliest in banking digital transformation forum”  More than 30% of the population use banking aps. They also need to revalue as their currency is very undervalued. We expect to see a major change in ther valuation.

MZ: “Iran’s Central bank Governor visits Washington for meetings with IMF officials”  Iran is doing well which gives me hope for the possibility that they will be in the first basket now instead of the second…..

So when you look at these large properties being snapped up- its people who are already wealthy putting their money in real estate instead of the banks.

MZ: They may be the first to sell these properties at a discount when things get bad. And that is when we should have dollars.

Member: After all these years of waiting, it's hard to believe that it could be this close..

Tishwash:  A deputy determines the mechanism for passing the budget if the consensus option fails

Representative Salem Al-Anbuge confirmed, on Wednesday, the possibility of passing the budget without waiting for political consensus, indicating that the coordination framework has the parliamentary majority to pass laws.  

 In an interview with Al-Maalouma, Al-Anbuge said, "The coordination framework is serious about resolving the 2023 budget through political consensus, but if it fails to achieve its goals, the choice of the political majority will be open to deciding the fate of the budget."

He added, "The budget will be passed by the political majority if it reaches the House of Representatives, and the presentation of the budget is currently postponed for some days, pending the outcome of the ongoing discussions now in Baghdad."

He pointed out that "the budget, despite its complexities, but its approval is necessary because it includes dues of large segments of the people and gives flexibility to institutions to fulfill their duties."

And the demands of some Kurdish forces caused the postponement of presenting the budget to the House of Representatives until further notice.   link

Tishwash:  The President of the Republic: The oil and gas law will be an important factor in solving most problems

Today, Wednesday, the President of the Republic, Abd al-Latif Jamal Rashid, affirmed that Iraq has returned to exercising its role in the region, while he considered that most of the outstanding issues between Baghdad and Erbil could be found solutions.

Rashid said, "Our steps now, after eliminating terrorism, are directed towards implementing a program that includes serving citizens in terms of rehabilitating infrastructure and providing services, expanding freedoms, fighting poverty, raising the standard of living and the ceiling of social security, and eliminating unemployment by activating the private sector and encouraging investment in the country." And discussing and discussing the issuance of the oil and gas law, which will be an important factor in solving most of the existing problems.

Regarding the water crisis, Rashid stressed that "Iraq is a state at the mouth of the waters of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers and their tributaries, and most of our tributaries are connected with Iran, and the two countries, Turkey and Iran, must take into account our water situation."

In a separate context, the President of the Republic said, in the context of an interview with Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper, that "relations between the federal government and the regional government are good, and there are differences in viewpoints, not disagreements, and most of the outstanding issues between the two sides can be found solutions  link

Tishwash:  Work: Loans are currently suspended until the budget is approved

 The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs said that launching loans for the poverty alleviation strategy depends on the financial allocations allocated within the general budget, while it begins disbursing the 36th batch of soft loans during the next five months.  

The Director of the Department of Labor and Vocational Training in the Ministry, Raed Jabbar Bahidh, said in an interview with the official newspaper, followed by "Al-Iqtisad News", that "the 35th batch of soft loans that were launched recently was for applicants since 2020, and it depends largely on the amount of refunds from borrowers during the past years." Which is reflected in the shares of each province and the percentage of recovery.  

He pointed out that "loans for the poverty alleviation strategy depend mainly on the financial allocations allocated to the ministry in the general budget, so they are currently suspended until the budget is approved."  

Bahedh added, "Applications for all loan programs approved by the Ministry are currently suspended due to the lack of sufficient financial allocations to receive new applications," noting that "loans cannot be combined with a social welfare grant, and whoever's name appears in loan payments is not entitled to apply to be included in subsidies and vice versa." like that".  

He noted that "the ministry has not issued any decision related to dropping loans on behalf of the deceased or for any other reason, as they are collected annually by the family of the deceased beneficiary, indicating that during the next five months, the 36th batch of soft loans will be launched for those registered during the past years   link

Tishwash:  The Sudanese financial advisor reveals the amount of gold accumulated by families and the gold flowing into Iraq

Today, Wednesday, the financial advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, confirmed that monetary gold is managed within the country's sovereign investment portfolio, revealing the volume of gold accumulated by the public and the gold flowing into Iraq.

Saleh said, in a press statement, followed by NRT Arabia: "The Iraqi families lost (their mufflers) and their various assets and assets of preoccupied gold during the period of the economic blockade that struck the country throughout the ninetieth decade during the last century, and the subsequent few years, as gold was used at that time and heavily under the weight of the hardships of economic life, to exchange it for means of subsistence and to defend human existence.

He explained, "Keeping monetary gold is an important possession that represents an aspect of monetary policy measures and its optimal management of the investment portfolio from the country's foreign reserves."

Saleh continued, "International guidebooks and regulations, especially those approved by multilateral international financial institutions, indicate that monetary gold reserves are between 7-10 percent of total foreign reserves, and monetary gold is managed within the sovereign investment portfolio," noting that "this percentage It comes because it is devoid of returns compared to foreign currencies and investment in international financial instruments.

Regarding the flow of gold and worked gold into the country, he stated, "The preliminary estimates indicate that there is an annual average flow of gold and worked gold into the country, especially of the desired high karat, at least 50 tons per year." 

And Saleh continued by saying: "What means the existence of a wealth of gold stored by families or the public with the accumulated historical gold that can be estimated between 1200-1500 tons of gold and perhaps more, which is equivalent to at least ten times the official monetary gold."

He pointed out, "The market value of one ton of gold (of 24 karat) today in the global gold markets exceeds $6 million."  link

Iraq put their new Dinar Rate in their Gazette last Sat. and announced it on Sun. They are supposed to make it public internationally tomorrow Wed. 30 May.

There were companies putting out emails and information on sale of Med Bed treatment  – which is a total scam. If you have paid out monies for scam Med Bed treatment you can be reimbursed by taking a copy of your documentation to your redemption appointment and/or your Med Bed appointment.

MZ: So I am trying to keep myself reined in with this news today. I am hearing that this month is still very much in the target. Meaning there is a possibility of notifications and announcements tomorrow and moving quickly into bonds and then in a few days us in 4a and 4b. That is the rumor.

MZ: I am stunned at the number of well connected sources that believe this is accurate today. From the number of communications I have received….tonight may be an interesting night on the boards. There is a very concerted effort to make this happen.

The tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia continue because of their rivalries, power struggles, and differences in religion. And this makes the region a very unstable and conflicted place.

 Iran and Saudi Arabia recently made a big change in their relationship with the help of China. In fact, they decided to become friends again and open their embassies. Experts believe this could have an impact on the problems in Yemen and Syria, where they have been supporting different sides.

And if they get along better, the tensions could go down, and they might find better ways to solve these conflicts. But the United States is not so sure about Iran's promise. American officials are worried that Iran might not keep its word because it hasn't always done so in the past.

The United States has historically maintained strong alliances with Sunni Arab states in the Middle East, such as Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Jordan. These alliances have been based on shared geopolitical interests, security cooperation, and oil trade.

However, the dynamics have shifted recently as the United States has pursued a nuclear deal with Shiite Iran. This has raised concerns among traditional Sunni allies, who view Iran as a regional rival and perceive the deal as potentially empowering Iran.

The US continues to navigate these complex relationships and geopolitical dynamics to advance its interests in the Middle East. Israel, especially, is taking action to stop Iran's nuclear program. They're doing sneaky stuff, like secret operations, cyber attacks, and talking to other countries, to slow Iran down and make them feel alone. Iran is also involved in conflicts in the Middle East by helping groups in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, and Yemen.

These groups, like Hezbollah and the Houthi rebels, make things even more tense. The United States is dealing with the challenges of Iran's nuclear plans and regional influence. They've even tried negotiating a deal.

He added, "Iraq is moving towards electronic payment, and Jordan has a successful experience in this field, and efforts will be harnessed to support Iraq in order to benefit from the experience in all fields," stressing "the readiness of the Central Bank of Jordan to cooperate in cybersecurity and everything that the Central Bank of Iraq needs."

New numbers from the Federal Reserve show the amount of money people are pulling out of their bank accounts is once again on the rise.

According to stats compiled by the Federal Reserve Economic Data (FRED) system, depositors yanked $30 billion out of American bank accounts from May 10th through May 17th.

That represents an increase of more than $4 billion over the previous week.

The US banking system now has a total of $17.15 trillion in deposits, compared to $18.03 trillion one year ago.

The deposit flight follows the failures of three large regional banks – Signature Bank, Silicon Valley Bank and First Republic.

The Los-Angeles based PacWest, which has been in the spotlight as the latest bank trying to keep afloat, is selling $2.6 billion in real estate construction loans in a bid to improve its balance sheet.

The gold price is rallying Tuesday morning, following the tentative agreement to the debt ceiling situation, which calls for a suspension of the debt limit until January 1 of 2025.

While the bill still needs to be passed in Congress, the agreement moves the situation one step closer towards avoiding a default on the US treasury debt.

Yet seemingly does little to change the long-term dynamics that include a skyrocketing national debt, and ballooning interest payments on said debt.

With the markets closed on Monday for Memorial day in the US, we're seeing a rally in the gold price (although a flat trading environment in #silver). Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro announced that Venezuela is willing to join the "BRICS" group, which includes Russia, China, India, Brazil and the Republic of South Africa.

"BRICS includes 5 powerful countries. Now BRICS is turning into a magnet for those who want another world built on peace and cooperation," Maduro said after meeting Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

 Maduro added, "If you ask Venezuela if you want to join BRICS at a certain moment, Venezuela will say 'Yes'. We would like to be part of BRICS and participate in building the new edifice and the new world politics."  link

Baghdad - Iraq Today:

Finance Minister Taif Sami discussed with Chinese Ambassador to Baghdad Cui Wei the establishment of economic and investment partnerships between the two countries.

The ministry said in a statement that "Finance Minister Taif Sami received  the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Baghdad Cui Wei and reiterated the priorities of upgrading the level of long-term relations with the Republic of China, by creating conditions for a stable investment environment in the Iraqi market."

According to the statement, Sami pointed to "continuing to work to consolidate joint cooperation between the two parties, and build partnerships to promote sustainable development in the sectors of finance, economy, infrastructure and investment through the effective contribution of sober Chinese companies in reconstruction projects."

The statement continued, "The Chinese ambassador expressed the desire of his government to raise the levels of exchange and financial and trade partnership with Iraq, and everything related to contributing to the promotion of economic development between the two sides."

Tishwash:  President of the Republic: The budget will be approved within the next few days

President Abdel Latif Jamal Rashid said today, Tuesday, that the country's financial budget will be approved within the next few days. The media office of the President of the Republic stated, in a statement received by Al-Mutala Agency, that "Rasheed received, at the Peace Palace in Baghdad, a delegation of members of the Board of Commissioners of the Independent High Electoral Commission."

 He stressed, "the importance of the Electoral Commission's role in organizing elections and facilitating the factors for their success," pointing out, "the necessity of success in conducting the next electoral process, which pertains to the provincial councils."

And he expressed, "the readiness of the presidency and the government to secure the necessary support for the success of the commission for its work," noting that "the possibility of approving the general budget by the parliament during the next few days would overcome all the difficulties and requirements necessary for the commission's work and the conduct of the upcoming elections."

He pointed out, in his conversation with the members of the Council of Commissioners, that "all efforts are directed towards fair elections without problems, and this is reinforced by the safe and stable situation witnessed by the various cities, which confirms the need for great care to facilitate the elections of the provincial councils."

The President of the Republic listened to "a detailed explanation given by the attendees, who expressed the Commission's readiness to hold the elections at the proposed date in the middle of next December," expressing their hope "for the speedy completion of the budget approval, because of its relevance to providing logistical requirements and facilitating all elections requirements."  link

Tishwash:  Iraq: Bank card gangs revive dollar smuggling

There are many means of smuggling hard currency out of Iraq , including bank credit cards, and despite attempts by customs and security to limit smuggling of cards, there are large numbers of them that went out in one way or another to neighboring countries.

This method includes filling the smuggler with dozens of cards with large sums of Iraqi dinars and converting them into dollars at the official government rate (1320 dinars to the dollar) abroad, as influential parties were able to withdraw various funds from the dollar currency in neighboring countries.

Government instructions specify that a citizen may acquire a maximum amount of two thousand dollars when traveling abroad, in an attempt to limit the smuggling of US currency to neighboring countries, especially Syria and Iran.

A new method of smuggling

The Directorate of Border Crossings confirmed that using bank credit cards to smuggle dollars is a new tactic for smuggling hard currency, after its cadres tightened security measures at land border crossings and international airports to limit dollar (cash) smuggling operations out of Iraq.

The official spokesman for the Iraqi Border Crossings Directorate, Alaeddin Al-Qaisi, said that the security cadres working in the border crossings have intensified their measures to limit currency smuggling through bank credit cards, through land border crossings and airports.

Al-Qaisi explained, in a phone call to Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that the number of credit cards that were seized is more than 2,400 cards, and they include large sums of money intended for smuggling outside Iraq, indicating that the smugglers who were trying to smuggle these cards were arrested by the border crossing staff. Supporting security directorates.

In confirming the dangers of smuggling hard currency out of Iraq, and devising new means for smuggling operations, the financial advisor to the Prime Minister, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, confirmed that organized crime gangs took advantage of travelers' cards, which are a means of financing the traveler's need for foreign currency through bank credit cards.

Salih added, in a press interview, that these gangs began using citizens' passports in illegal ways to issue bank cards that are smuggled out of Iraq and withdraw their resources there to create black transfers or smuggle money.

Saleh considered that these methods of fraud are considered among the methods of organized crime and money laundering, which are punishable by law with the most severe penalties, adding that "these gangs affected creating turmoil in the exchange rate of the dollar.

He explained that the monetary policy pursued by the Iraqi state and the deterrent measures that are being worked on will contribute to imposing the force of law and compliance with the system, in order to reduce this dangerous phenomenon and eliminate economic crimes.

For his part, the economic researcher, Omar al-Halbousi, confirmed that any means to limit the smuggling of currency out of Iraq will not succeed completely, because whoever controls the financial market and most of the private banks are influential parties who know very well how to maintain their influence and financial strength through financial operations. smuggling.

Al-Halbousi explained, during his interview with Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that there are smugglers who obtain dollars from banks at the official government rate, and exchange companies help them fill out bank credit cards, and then these cards are smuggled abroad by travelers to take advantage of the currency difference.

And he indicated that the use of bank cards (Visa and Master Card) issued by banks and electronic payment companies is one of the new methods for these operations, and it is difficult to control them by customs and border crossing police.

Regarding the size of the losses incurred by Iraq from this operation, Al-Halbousi explained that there are no fixed estimates of the amount of money smuggled through bank cards, because this method is still in the beginning of use by smugglers who resorted to it as a secondary, not a major, method of smuggling.

He added that every dollar smuggling process negatively affects the economy and the local market, which is witnessing a state of insatiable demand for dollars, which leads to raising the parallel exchange rate from the real price in the market, in addition to a rise in price inflation, which enhances the chance of an economic recession. .

He pointed out that the volume of money smuggled from Iraq since 2003 is estimated at more than 350 billion dollars, and it constitutes very heavy losses for the Iraqi rentier economy, which depends mainly on oil.
