Tishwash: The global market opens on a jump in oil prices

Oil prices jumped with the opening of the market today, Monday, due to the continuation of the war in Ukraine, while major oil producers reported that they are struggling to produce their quotas allocated under a supply agreement.

Brent crude futures rose $3.24, or 3 percent, to $111.17 a barrel at 04:31 GMT, adding 1.2 percent last Friday.

US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose $3.23, or 3.9%, to $107.93.

With little sign of easing the conflict, the focus is back on whether the market will be able to replace the Russian barrels damaged by sanctions.

The latest report from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allies including Russia showed that some producers were still falling short of agreed supply quotas.

OPEC's Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which have the ability to raise production immediately, have so far resisted calls from major consuming nations to raise production faster to help lower oil prices.
