Parliamentarian: Al-Sadr Killed His Revolution And Retreated From The Demands For A Radical Change Of The Regime In Iraq

2022-08-10 06:51  Shafaq News/ On Wednesday, a member of the Iraqi Parliament, Basem Khashan, criticized the October demonstrators for joining the protests of the Sadrist movement, at a time when he considered that the leader of the movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, retracted the demands for a radical change of the regime in the country, and that he only aims to re-conduct the legislative elections to restore Seats lost by his bloc's resignation from Parliament.

This came in a post on the social networking sites "Facebook" entitled "How to deceive people in five days without a teacher?".

In that publication, Khashan said that "part of the demonstrators decided to participate in his "revolution", even in another arena, because they thought that Sadr had taken his first step to achieve the radical change of the system, the constitution and the elections that he promised them, and they thought it was an opportunity that would not be repeated, and the truth is that These demands were just bait to lure them."

And he saw that "Al-Sadr retracted these demands frankly, and killed his revolution, so the demands for radical change died, and he made it clear that he only wanted to hold early elections that would restore his seats that he had lost with the resignation of his deputies. Declaring their adherence to what al-Sadr abandoned, and they are trying to convince people that radical change will take decades, and people must be patient with what has befallen them and what will happen to them until God grants them a clear victory.

Khashan continued by saying, "We advised our comrades, but they did not take our advice, but rather stuck to something that achieves the people's current and future interests, and we advise them now, that the shortest path to reform is the path of the constitution and the law supported by the popular movement, and this is what Tishreen followed thanks to the demands that I wrote myself."

The independent deputy concluded, "Tishreen is the revolution of the people and the constitution against all those who violated the people's rights and money, and it was not a coup against the constitution of Iraq, which preserves its unity and guarantees the rights of its children."

Al-Sadr recently adopted the slogan of dissolving the House of Representatives and proceeding to hold early elections in the country, after bringing the followers of the current to the street in a clear position in raising the ceiling of demands against the background of the failure in the political process.

The political scene in Iraq has undergone serious developments since supporters of the Sadrist movement led by prominent Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr stormed the parliament building in the fortified Green Zone in central Baghdad, and protested against the nomination of the coordination framework, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, for the position of Prime Minister for the next federal government.

Then, near the suspension bridge leading to the Green Zone, demonstrations against the Sadrist movement took place by the audience of the coordination framework, after an invitation from the "Organizing Committee to Support Legitimacy and Preserve State Institutions."

The Sadrist bloc had obtained the highest votes in the early legislative elections that took place in October of 2021, but the efforts of the leader of the current failed to form the new federal government due to the Shiite coordination framework standing in its way by obtaining a fatwa from the Federal Court with the so-called blocking third in a contract The session for electing the President of the Republic, which paves the way for naming the Prime Minister.

The three-way alliance between the Kurdistan Democratic Party led by Masoud Barzani, the Sovereignty Alliance headed by Khamis al-Khanjar, and the Sadrist movement led by Muqtada al-Sadr was broken following the resignation of the Sadrist bloc's deputies, and the movement's withdrawal from the political process by order of al-Sadr.

The political scene is living in a crisis situation and a dead end unprecedented in the history of Iraq, as more than 300 days have passed since the early elections without being able to form a new government in the country, and the survival of the caretaker government headed by Mustafa Al-Kazemi.

On the tenth of last October, Iraq held early legislative elections to get out of a political crisis that swept the country after large demonstrations in the central and southern regions in 2019 in protest against the widespread unemployment in society, the spread of financial and administrative corruption in government departments and institutions, and the deteriorating reality The service and the livelihood, which prompted the former prime minister, Adel Abdul-Mahdi, to resign under popular pressure.

As soon as the preliminary results of the elections were announced, the voices of political forces and actors rose in their rejection of losing many seats, accusing them of major fraud in the ballot, which was denied by the executive and judicial authorities, at a time when the United Nations and international organizations praised the integrity of the electoral process.    LINK

As soon as the evening of the ninth of Muharram came, the number of arrivals to the vicinity of the Parliament building began to increase, after the erection of tents and Husseini processions, where hundreds of people camped.

With hundreds of processions scattered, and the number increased every time one approached his building, the parliament seemed to be one of the holy places.

The rituals were not limited to mentioning the incident of Tuff only, but also included educational lectures and religious sermons presented by the elders of the Sadrist movement, as well as monologues and supplications for salvation from injustice and oppression.

The sit-in did not spare any effort to make the rituals held in the place a success for the first time, and some of them spent the night transporting supplies and providing services

The rise in temperatures and the increase in the number of mourners prompted the protesters to set up tents for medical detachments called Ambulance Al-Watan, which were spread in the courtyards of Parliament to treat the mourners, especially since some of them continued their work for more than 12 hours.

According to the protesters, the tents and processions will remain even after the Ashura ceremony ends, in an indication of an increase in the pace of protest in the coming days, amid anticipation of Al-Hananah directives.

It is not possible to estimate the number of arrivals to the Green Zone on the night of the tenth of Muharram, as all the streets leading to Parliament were filled with sit-ins.  LINK
