Company: OPEC + Raises October Production By 480,000 Barrels, And Iraq's Commitment Reached 95%
Energy Economy News _ Baghdad The US company Standard & Poor's Global Platts announced that OPEC + raised its production for the month of October by 480 thousand barrels per day, while Iraq's commitment was 95% for the same month.
According to the latest Standard & Poor's Global Platts survey, seen by "Economy News", OPEC and its allies boosted their oil production by 480,000 barrels per day, but only half of the group's members actually increased production last month as many in the alliance struggle to pump as many barrels as possible. .
She noted that 13 OPEC countries pumped 27.55 million barrels per day, an increase of 260,000 barrels per day from September, while Russia and eight other partners added 13.66 million barrels per day, an increase of 220,000 barrels per day.
The monthly rise was mainly attributed to the group's largest oil producers Saudi Arabia, Russia, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait, which still have ample spare production capacity, as well as to Kazakhstan, which completed heavy maintenance in a major field.
Iraq witnessed a decrease in its oil production for the month of October compared to September by 100,000 barrels per day, as its production amounted to 4.170 million barrels per day in October, down from the month of September, in which production amounted to 4.180 million barrels per day, but this production is higher than its share scheduled for the month of October, amounting to 4.149 million barrels, so that Iraq's commitment to its share is 95.83%.
The survey found that the 19 countries with production quotas under the OPEC+ agreement were collectively 600,000 bpd less than their allotment for the month, raising the compliance rate to 113.21%.
The shortage has contributed to a tight oil market as global demand has rebounded to near pre-pandemic levels, drawing heavy criticism from the United States and other consuming nations who have complained about high oil prices.
The price of physical dated Brent Crude has exceeded $80 a barrel since early October, hitting a three-year high above $85 a barrel before the latest pullback.
On November 4, OPEC+ stood steadfastly on increasing crude production quotas by a modest 400,000 b/d for December, despite pressure from the US, India and Japan for more volumes to bring down higher oil prices. The next OPEC+ meeting is scheduled for December 2. Views 37 Date added 09/11/2021

British Website: Mosul Regains Its Place As A Tourist Destination In Iraq
Posted On 2021-11-09 By Sotaliraq Translation / Hamed Ahmed
Every evening when the sun goes down, the forest street comes alive. This green road, crowned with colored electric lamps, cuts through one of the areas of Mosul along the banks of the Tigris River, surrounded by illuminated cafes and restaurants. At a fountain filled with colorful lights, two photographers are waiting next to it, as it is a popular site for newlyweds who stand there to take pictures, and families take their happy children to a playground filled with colorful means of fun.
Behind the trees, there are spacious restaurants lined up overlooking the banks of the Tigris River, with a pier where families with their children queue up, waiting for their turn to board a boat decorated with colorful lamps and lights. Loud music plays on the deck of the boat accompanied by bargains and shouts of joy from the audience as the boat makes its way down the river.
The forest area in Mosul, which was the scene of battles between Iraqi forces and ISIS militants nearly five years ago, has now become the heart of Mosul's tourism development.
Muhammad, 24, a university student from Mosul, told MEE, “People give a bad impression of Mosul on TV, but Mosul now is not what it was five years ago.”
The name of Mosul was associated with ISIS militants and terrorism, as the city attracted global media attention in mid-2014 when the leader of the organization, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, announced from inside the al-Nuri Mosque that he had installed himself as caliph over an area of land occupied by the organization between Iraq and Syria. In October 2016, a fierce battle took place there to liberate it from ISIS, which lasted for nine months, leaving the city with a destruction rate of about 60%.
Reconstruction activities are now underway throughout Mosul, and the forest area is at the forefront of this activity in order to restore the luster of the war-stricken city as a tourist destination for Iraqi visitors and even Western tourists.
"I'm starting to see tourism coming back here in Mosul," Mohammed said. Visitors, mostly from central and southern Iraq, started coming to Mosul in late 2018.
He continued, "Before ISIS came, the forest area and the old Mosul area were the two main tourist destinations, and there was momentum for hotels in the old city, but now there is no." The people did not return to the old city, neither the Mosulis nor the tourists.”
Large areas of the old city of Mosul are still under rubble, a few historical sites are still visible, such as the ruins of the 12th century Bash Tabia castle overlooking the river.
Closer to the river, where the devastation is still visible, a few shops and cafes have reopened independently. Abu Omar, 60, a carpenter who rebuilt his workshop with his own money, said, “Here is the center of the old city, and it was considered the best part of Mosul before ISIS came.
I reopened my workshop in late 2018, but work here is slow because the houses are all broken and the streets are not in good condition here, that's why people refuse to go back. We need serious government investment and a lot of support in the field of reconstruction to be able to encourage people to return.”
With its cold weather and diverse terrain, the northern Iraq region often attracts tourists from central and southern Iraq, especially during the hot summer days. The major investment in the forest area aims to redraw this area in the city of Mosul on the tourist map.
Hisham al-Kilani, a receptionist at the tourist village in the forest area, told MEE, “Mosul is now very safe and tourists are starting to return to it. They come from Baghdad, Basra, Ramadi, Tikrit and even from Erbil and Sulaymaniyah. Mosul is famous for its distinctive kitchens and dishes, and its restaurants are known for their cleanliness and quality of service.”
Kilani said that the reconstruction of the tourist city in the forest area was undertaken by a group of 14 local businessmen, who have so far spent approximately 570 million dinars, noting that compensation files have been sent to the government, but they have not received anything so far, and the project is still ongoing with Nearly running out of funding.
Ali al-Makhzoumi, co-founder and director of the Baghdad Tourist Office, Bill Weekend, said, “I started talking to visitors to Mosul, including a few from Italy and Russia, to see the old city and the spirit of Mosul. We visited the important buildings that were destroyed, including the foundations of the Al-Hadba minaret, to see what UNESCO is doing there.”
Muhammad al-Rawi, the deputy governor of Mosul, said that as long as there are basic infrastructure and facilities that benefit the local population, such as hospitals and schools, that are still immature and unusable, he does not think this is the right time for Mosul to focus on developing tourism.
He added, "We do not have enough hotels for tourists or adequate infrastructure for the development of tourism. The forests are a good area overlooking the river, but we have no experience in how to develop this place in a distinctive way or to attract tourists.”
Nevertheless, the people of Mosul are striving to improve the image of Mosul and its tourist reputation by working with what is available to them. Where the people of Mosul have a deep love for their city, which is still beautiful. LINK
