Consumer Protection Legislation
Tuesday 09 November 2021 71 Dr.. Saad Al-Taie The Iraqi markets are exposed to a large invasion of goods and commodities of varying quality and from multiple origins, some of which do not meet the simplest requirements of consumption due to poor productivity. Which causes damage to the Iraqi consumer who deals with these goods and merchandise.
Consumer protection legislation is the most effective means of preventing the various damages to which the consumer is exposed, resulting from the possibility of consuming poor-quality, damaged or expired goods that leak into the commercial markets by various means, and which come because of some weak-minded people who want to speed up their introduction to the markets and their promotion.
At the expense of the consumer, who often pays a high price for it, whether from his daily income or from his health, which leads to being exposed to the most severe damage, caused by a handful of bad people who aim to earn in any way, whether legal or illegal.
The work of these bad guys is facilitated by the lack of legal legislation related to consumer protection and the failure to activate the role of the regulatory authorities in controlling the entry of various goods and commodities into commercial markets and monitoring their compliance with internationally applicable standards and qualities.
Therefore, it is very necessary and important, and in order to preserve the health and economic status of the Iraqi consumer, the necessity of enacting legal legislation to protect it from these damages and to maintain the flow of goods and merchandise in the Iraqi markets in accordance with health specifications and standards of high quality, and in a manner that enhances the strength and safety of the Iraqi economy.
Products that are not fit for consumption are distributed in various types and origins, many of which are manipulated in terms of origin and expiry date. Inferior or expired goods include a long list of foodstuffs, juices, medicines, detergents, perfumes and cleaning powders, as well as durable goods that are of low quality and not of quality.
Therefore, they are rapidly malfunctioning, and some of them leave bad health effects on their users, such as some computers, tablets and mobile devices, which are not taken into account in their manufacture, the acceptable limits of harmful radiation emissions to the eye or brain, which causes severe damage to the health of their users.
Therefore, it is necessary to work to protect the consumer from the damage resulting from the consumption of such products by enacting legal legislation in the field of consumer protection that provides him with the required legal protection, which must be taken care of by the legislative and executive authorities in our country.
