The "Iraqi Presidencies" Call For Dialogue, And "Al-Sadr" Responds With An Initiative

Posted On2022-08-28 By Sotaliraq   Amid a state of political escalation among the Iraqi components, the three presidencies (the republic, ministers and parliament) warned of the aggravation of the current political crisis in the country, calling for calm and dialogue, while the "Sadr movement" put forward a new initiative to end the escalating crisis that stipulates the non-participation of all political parties and personalities. in the next elections.

The outgoing Iraqi President, Barham Salih, said in a speech before a conference in Baghdad to combat violence against women, that "the current challenges in his country require everyone to have a good understanding and to resort to the principle of concessions in favor of what is a comprehensive national and in favor of a reform project to overcome the underlying defect in the system of governance."

He called on everyone to "resort to the option of dialogue, regardless of the degree of crisis and disagreement, instead of escalation and collision, as everyone will lose in it."

In turn, the outgoing Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, said in a speech to the same conference, that “it is unreasonable for the political crises in Iraq to remain without solutions,” noting that “everyone is at a crossroads, either the path of crisis, chaos, political conflict and threatening social peace, or the path of stability, security, construction and prosperity.”

He believed that "the solution is for everyone to show willingness to make concessions so that the country does not get lost in conflicts and political challenges," warning that "the moment when a clash occurs and shootings are fired will not stop and remain for years."

In this context, Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi called on the political forces to sit down for a dialogue table to reach solutions to the political crisis, warning that the country's situation cannot continue in this case.

Al-Halbousi said: "What we have reached today represents a regression from what we were before. We must sit at the dialogue table and proceed with early elections."

The Iraqi leaders' statements come at a time when the political crisis in Iraq, which has continued since the parliamentary elections held in October last year, is worsening, as the conflicting political forces failed to agree to form a new government and elect a new president for the country. A new initiative to end the escalating political crisis in the country stipulates that all parties and political figures should not participate in the upcoming elections.

A post on Facebook by a leader close to the leader of the "Sadr movement" Muqtada al-Sadr, Saleh Muhammad al-Iraqi, stated that the initiative calls for the non-involvement of all political parties and personalities that have participated in the political process since 2003 until now, including the "Sadr movement" in the the next elections.

He stressed that the personalities covered by this ban include leaders, ministers, employees and special ranks affiliated with the parties.

Al-Iraqi said that this demand is more important than the demand to dissolve parliament and hold early elections, adding that it "would be an alternative to all the initiatives sought by some, including the United Nations."

Al-Iraqi expressed Al-Sadr's readiness to sign an agreement that guarantees this within a maximum period of 72 hours.

The "Sadr movement" called, yesterday, the highest judicial authority in Iraq for the second time in less than a month, to dissolve parliament in the context of pressure on his political opponents.

The crisis has worsened in recent weeks, with the political forces represented by the Sadrist movement and its main opponent, adopting the "coordinating framework" to organize protests and sit-ins in order to pressure the implementation of their demands, and the matter reached the point of organizing a sit-in in front of the Supreme Judicial Council.

The political analyst and deputy head of the "Political Decision Center" in Iraq, Haider al-Moussawi, confirmed that there are not many papers with the "Sadr movement" to keep pressure on its rival, the "coordinating framework." Al-Moussawi indicated, in statements to Al-Ittihad, that “the sit-in in front of the parliament building could turn into in front of the presidential palace, and this would be a new step to put pressure on the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, given that Barham Salih is from this party, and put pressure on him, which is a major ally of the framework.” Coordination,” stressing that there is no solution except through dialogue.

In turn, Adnan Al-Sarraj, head of the Iraqi Center for Media Development, said that the coming days will witness a breakthrough in the Iraqi political scene with news of pressures that will be directed to the "Sadr movement" to reorganize its papers to suit the local, regional and international reality and to demand a moderate discourse.

Al-Sarraj said in a statement to Al-Ittihad, “The demand and signature of more than 180 deputies to hold a parliamentary session with the presence of emerging political forces calling for this matter and moving towards the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Sovereignty Alliance to move and persuade the Sadrist movement to dialogue, all of these things are evidence of an upcoming breakthrough for the political crisis. in Iraq".

Yesterday, the Security Media Cell in Iraq reported the killing of 4 ISIS members and the wounding of others in Diyala Governorate, northeast of Baghdad.

The Media Cell said, in a press statement, that "forces from the First Division in the Diyala Operations Command managed to discover the movements of ISIS elements coming from Hamrin Mountain and Lake, and they tried to attack the main surveillance cameras."

She explained that the Iraqi forces confronted the "ISIS" elements, and managed to kill 4 and wound others.

Meanwhile, an Iraqi soldier was killed and two others were wounded, yesterday, in an explosion targeting a military patrol southwest of Baquba, the center of Diyala province.

The local authorities said: A security force went to the scene of the accident and launched a search for the perpetrators.   LINK
