Coordinator: No Agreement On The Next Prime Minister

Saturday 22nd January 2022  190  Baghdad: Omar Abdul Latif

Amid the escalation of media statements and speculation about the person nominated to take over the position of the next prime minister in charge of forming the government, the coordinating framework confirmed that this personality would be far from the names presented previously, ruling out that he would accept the exclusion of the head of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki, for an alliance with the Sadrist movement.

Member of the framework, Representative of the State of Law, Muhammad Al-Ziyadi, said: "The coordinating framework is determined to form a consensual government that includes all political forces."

He added that "if the Federal Court decides to invalidate the session, the parliament's presidency will be re-elected and new constitutional times will be set," noting that "the course of the first session confused the political process and constitutional timing."

He pointed out that "the coordination and the movement did not agree on candidates for the position of prime minister, and that the next prime minister will be far from the names presented previously."

In turn, a member of the leadership framework in the Al-Fateh Alliance, Mukhtar Al-Moussawi, said: "The State of Law coalition is part of the Coordination Framework Alliance, and this important part cannot be abandoned, just as nation-building and reform cannot be achieved by excluding others."

He added that "it is unlikely that the State of Law coalition (and its leader, Nuri al-Maliki) will be excluded from the framework coalition," noting that "the country and the political process will not depend on anyone, so everyone must reject differences and make Iraq's interest a priority."

Moussawi suggested that "the date of forming the next government will be much delayed due to the differences between the major political blocs." While the political blocs await the ruling of the Federal Supreme Court regarding the constitutionality of the first session of Parliament and its outcomes, legal expert Ali Al-Tamimi said that "the court sessions after issuing the state order and postponing the case for scrutiny, their management is characterized by expertise, professionalism and professionalism."

Al-Tamimi added in an interview with "Al-Sabah" that "the postponement of the audit is a preparatory decision to complete the pleading sessions and reach the final decision formula."

And he indicated that "it is not possible to give an opinion on the possible decision that will be issued by the court, of which no one else is aware, and that giving opinions by some is a suggestion and interference in judicial affairs that may expose its owner to legal accountability in accordance with Article 235 of the Iraqi Penal Code."

He continued, "The decision of the Federal Supreme Court is now binding on all authorities in accordance with Article 94 of the Constitution, and therefore it is above the constitutional time limits, and when it is issued, whether by accepting or rejecting the case, it will draw the new map for these ceilings."  LINK
