Parliament Will Resume Its Work In The Middle Of This Month To Complete The Committees

Posted On2022-04-03 By Sotaliraq   Baghdad / Hussein Hatem   After the House of Representatives failed to hold three sessions to choose the president of the republic, the deputies saw that the step of distributing members of the House of Representatives to parliamentary committees would be a stepping stone to “resolving” the political impasse.

On the other hand, other deputies objected to the way in which the parliamentary committees were distributed without the presence of all members of Parliament. A member of the House of Representatives from the State of Law coalition, Muhammad Al-Ziyadi, said in an interview with (Al-Mada), that "Parliament will continue to hold its sessions during the month of Ramadan," noting that "the political blocs are still holding their meetings to discuss the formation of the new government."

Al-Zayadi added, "The coming days will witness a solution to the political impasse that the country has witnessed since the results of the October 10, 2021 elections."

With regard to the distribution of parliamentary committees, he pointed out, "This step is considered the beginning of resolving the issue of obstruction and uncertainty related to the political scene." Al-Zayadi expected, "Parliament will hold a new session in mid-April." On Wednesday (March 30, 2022), the House of Representatives voted on the members of two parliamentary committees and the names of a third, before adjourning its session indefinitely.

Today's session included voting on the members of the Legal Committee, and the names of the members of the Foreign Relations Committee, according to the Media Department of the House of Representatives.

Parliament also voted to add Representative Muhammad Nouri, Representative Sajjad Jassem Hussein, Representative Ikhlas Al-Dulaimi, Representative Mahasen Hamdoun, Representative Haitham Al-Zahwan, and Representative Alaa Al-Ibrahimi to the members of the Finance Committee.

The Council also voted to amend some paragraphs of its bylaw and the tasks of its parliamentary committees. It also voted on the tasks of: the Parliamentary Electricity and Energy Committee, the Parliamentary Committee on Economy, Industry and Trade, the Strategic Planning Committee and the Parliamentary Federal Service, the Parliamentary Transport and Communications Committee, the Parliamentary Services and Construction Committee, and the Parliamentary Committee on Services and Reconstruction. Labor and the parliamentary civil society institutions, the Labor Committee and the parliamentary civil society institutions.

In turn, a member of the House of Representatives, Zahra Al-Bajari, said in an interview with (Al-Mada), that "most of the parliamentarians are determined to hold intensive sessions to resolve the issue of forming a government and choosing the President of the Republic that satisfies all parties."

Al-Bajari added, "During the parliament's work in previous sessions, the parliamentary committees were formed by their heads and members of the parliament together," pointing out that "ratifying some important committees without the presence of a large part of the parliament represents legal problems."

And she continued, "The committees were supposed to be formed in the presence of everyone and not be limited to certain blocs," surprisingly, "the approval of some of the committees was incomplete."

And the representative of the Al-Fateh Alliance, Ali Turki, stressed “the necessity of distributing the committees, each according to his competence and his work,” noting that “the tripartite alliance and after its control over the presidency of the parliament, we find that it went on the issue of the committees according to what he sees, away from the coordination framework, and this is a targeting for us and a means of pressure.” for political purposes.”

On the other hand, the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, indicated, after the session, in a tweet on Twitter, that “there is no good in a consensus-based government,” noting that he will not return “the Iraqi people to their previous tragedy,” reiterating his position by saying: “I will not agree with you. It means the end of the country, not to consensus in all its forms.”

Addressing the blocs and parties calling for consensus and the formation of a consensus government, “what you call a political blockage is easier than agreeing with you, and better than sharing the cake with you,” adding: “There is no good in a consensus government.”  LINK

Al-Amiri Identifies The Reasons For The Transformation Of The Iraqi Economy Into A “Rentier” And Warns Against The Repetition Of “Judgments And Mistakes”

Posted On2022-04-03 By Sotaliraq   On Saturday, Hadi al-Amiri, the leader of the "Al-Fateh" coalition, attributed the reasons for the transformation of the economy in Iraq to "unilateral" or "rentier" to not keeping pace with scientific methods in improving the reality of this sector, warning at the same time against repeating what he called "judgments and mistakes" that led to the deterioration of the economy of the country.

Al-Amiri said in a speech during the “Soft Power and its Impact on Iraq” conference, which was held today in the capital, Baghdad, that “the real reasons that made us a unilateral economy, with great regret or rentierism, as expressed, is our failure to follow scientific methods to reach solutions to these problems.”

He added, "Today, we have no choice, frankly, we worked hard and erred, and this is enough, and what is required at the present time is that we resort to the practical research method to reach solutions to many problems, including food security."

Iraq's economy is characterized as a rentier consumer economy that depends entirely on the proceeds of selling oil, which is the main source of the country's general budget.

And the Iraqi state’s continuation of relying on oil as the only source of the general budget makes Iraq at risk of global crises that occur from time to time due to the impact of oil on it, which makes Iraq turn every time to cover the deficit through borrowing from abroad or inside, which thus indicates the inability to manage Effectively state funds, and the inability to find alternative financing solutions.   LINK
