Economist: What Was Spent On Electricity Is A Sign That Spending Is Not Controlled In Iraq

Baghdad / NINA / - An expert in economic affairs, Raad Twij, criticized the statement of the Minister of Finance regarding what was spent on electricity during the last seven years, stressing that it constitutes a sign that spending is not controlled in Iraq.

Twig said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency ( NINA ): "The statement of the Minister of Finance regarding spending 120 billion dollars on electricity during the last seven years was a sign that spending in Iraq was not controlled."

He added, "It is the duty of the Ministry of Electricity to submit a disclosure of its expenditures during these seven years, an average of 17 billion dollars per year, and the Ministry of Finance must be asked for final accounts and a financial plan consistent with a plan related to the production of the Ministry of Electricity, both at the level of electric energy and imported energy."

He added, "We have to think, from the other side, about electricity payments by consumers for electric energy."

And Finance Minister Ali Abdul-Amir Allawi said in a press statement: "Iraq's inability to provide enough electricity to meet demand has cost the country nearly $120 billion over the past seven years."/ End 8

A Plan For The Re-Industrialization Of The Military In Iraq

Speaking about the activities of the anti-terrorism exhibition that opened today in Baghdad, the head of the authority, Muhammad Sahib Al-Daraji, said that "the importance of these exhibitions lies in the technological exchange with international companies," noting that "the authority, in turn, is transferring technology from the world to Iraq and starting military industrialization within Iraq".

Al-Daraji added: "We offered the international companies the possibility of participating with them or partnering with each other to build a local military industry."

He revealed that "the commission has prepared a plan for the re-industrialization of the military in Iraq, but it cannot be circulated in the media, and everyone should seek good advice."

Today, Saturday morning, the capital, Baghdad, witnessed the inauguration of the first session of the exhibition against terrorism, special operations and cyber security (ATSO Iraq).

Iraq Adopts A Strategy To Support Clean Energy Projects And Gas Investment

A statement by the ministry, which Mawazine News received a copy of, stated that "Oil Minister Ihsan Abdul-Jabbar Ismail, during his participation on the electronic platform in the energy transition workshop organized by the International Energy Organization, stressed the keenness of the Iraqi government and the ministry to support clean energy projects through the implementation of large plans and projects.

In the field of investing gas associated with oil operations and working to reduce and reduce hydrocarbon emissions, increase electric power production projects using alternative energy and reduce the use of heavy fuels.

The Minister of Oil added, according to the statement, that "Iraq has taken practical steps to gradually shift towards clean and renewable energy," noting "the government and the ministry's support for investments in the associated gas sector and converting it into useful energy by adopting a clear strategy by contracting with international companies specialized in this field in the governorates of Basra and Maysan."

Dhi Qar and the establishment of the Basra Gas Company, as well as the signing with the French company Total for a set of projects to invest associated gas in addition to other projects carried out by the ministry, leading to an investment of (2600) million standard cubic feet per day within the plans of the Ministry of Oil to invest associated gas from the fields of the southern governorates It is hoped that it will be completed before 2026.

And he indicated that "the second important axis of Iraq's plans is to add (12 kilowatts) to the national electric power system through the use of alternative energy (solar) by contracting with leading international companies in this sector, and working to shift to the use of gas in the operations of operating stations instead of fuel.

Heavy duty to reduce emissions and preserve the environment, and this is among the priorities of the Iraqi government.

The Minister of Oil and Chairman of the Ministerial Council for Energy stressed, according to the statement, "Iraq abides by international agreements and covenants that affirm commitment to environmental, health and climate standards and to search for the best means to achieve these goals and work to develop them in order to preserve the environment and human health and help achieve sustainable development."
