chattels   If Abdul Mahdi does step down, the president would take over as prime minister and the government would give way to a caretaker government. It’s also possible that parliament could remove Abdul Mahdi if one-fifth of members call for a vote of no confidence and then the vote is approved by a majority.

In either case, in the prime minister's absence the president would then charge the nominee of the largest parliamentary bloc with forming a new government.

 If the parliament failed to form a new government, it can dissolve itself with majority vote and the current government would turn to a caretaker government and it would have to organize new elections in 60 days. Parliament could also withdraw confidence from the prime minister based on a request from the president.

Economy News - Baghdad:  Iraq's economy is slowly recovering in 2019, the World Bank announced.

"In the first half of 2019, GDP grew by 4.8% compared to the previous year, leading to a reverse shift in the contraction of the economy over the past two years," the World Bank said in a report on Iraq, seen by Economy News.

"This growth is the result of an increase in crude oil production (up to 6.3% so far) and a 5.6% recovery in non-oil economic activity in the first half of 2019 compared to last year," he said.

"The recent recovery is due to improved rainfall levels, the production of record agricultural crops, an improvement in electricity production and an expansionary fiscal policy associated with increased wage and public consumption bills," he said.

"Such positive developments are expected to raise real GDP growth to an estimated 4.6% by the end of the year," he said.

Massacre Of Karbala Protesters As Talk Begins Of PM Abdul Mahdi Resigning

chattels   President Barham Salah reportedly called an emergency meeting of the ruling parties in Baghdad to discuss an alternative to Abdul Mahdi.

As a sign that this might actually take place, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party told the media that the Kurdish parties would accept a new government as long as their rights were maintained. There was also a report that the prime minister might resign by Wednesday.

Will this quiet the crowds? Unlikely since they want not only the government to resign, but a new election law and then a vote to boot out the current politicians. Having a new administration put together by the current elite will likely be more of the same unless they move on these other issues.
