butterfly   https://www.washingtoninstitute.org/policy-analysis/discordance-iran-threat-network-iraq-militia-competition-and-rivalry Discordance in the Iran Threat Network in Iraq: Militia Competition and Rivalry Hardline groups are struggling to satisfy demands for action against American forces while simultaneously de-escalating U.S.-Iran tensions and evolving their non-kinetic wings.

The following is an excerpt from the authors’ feature article in the October issue of West Point’s CTC Sentinel. To read the full article, download the PDF above or visit the CTC website.

Iran-backed militias have been scrambling to recover after the loss of their patriarchs Qassem Soleimani and Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis. Attempts to preserve a top-down, Iran-directed system of command have met resistance, both from independent-minded upstarts like Asa’ib Ahl al-Haq and the fragmenting powerbases within Kata’ib Hezbollah.

To track these trends in detail and to an evidentiary level, the Militia Spotlight project was stood up at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy in February 2021. This article lays out the project’s first eight months of findings, drawn from an open-source intelligence effort that fuses intense scrutiny of militia messaging applications with in-depth interviews of relevant officials.

The key finding is that while the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps-Quds Force still runs Iran’s covert operations inside Iraq, they face growing difficulties in controlling local militant cells...

butterfly   Chihod: The next scenario will witness the formation of the most numerous parliamentary bloc that includes all Shiite blocs

Friday 22 October 2021 23:46 | The former deputy of the State of Law coalition that won the parliamentary elections, Muhammad Saadoun Al-Sayhoud, said that the next scenario will reveal the formation of a more numerous parliamentary bloc that includes all Shiite forces and will collide with the rest of the components to form the government.

Chihod said in a press statement today: We are waiting for the results of the appeals submitted by the political blocs to the Electoral Commission and to the judiciary, and in light of them we will determine the form of alliances between the political blocs, up to the most numerous parliamentary bloc, and it is very clear now that the rule of law, Fatah, Shiite blocs and the independents aligned with it are The parliamentary bloc is the most numerous, and from them the prime minister will emerge."

He added that: the most numerous parliamentary bloc led by the State of Law, Al-Fateh and the Shiite political blocs has understandings with the other blocs of the Sunni and Kurdish components to form the next government, especially since both components announced that they will fight with the Shiite majority and that it is very clear that the Shiite majority is next to the State of Law and Shiite blocs The other party aligned with it, which is under the tent of the coordinating framework.”

butterfly   He stressed that: We should not disagree on this issue because the most numerous parliamentary bloc will be determined by the first parliament session. And Federal Court Decision No. 25 of 2010 explained this matter, which is that the most numerous parliamentary bloc is the coalition of blocs that are formed in the first session of Parliament.

Chihod revealed that: The next scenario in the next stage will witness the formation of the parliamentary bloc that is the most numerous and includes all the Shiite blocs, which will launch towards the coalition with the other components to form the government. https://ninanews.com/Website/News/Details?key=934683
