World Food Program: Poverty rates in Iraq have reached 31.7%

Saturday 13, March 2021 10:23  The United Nations World Food Program in Iraq revealed that poverty rates in Iraq have reached 31.7%, while calling for additional support from donor countries.

The representative of the World Food Program in Iraq, Abdul Rahman Megaj, said in a press statement, "The World Food Program monitors food prices, including the average food basket of 2,100 calories per day."

He added, "10% of people use" coping strategies "to help with their condition, because they do not have enough food to eat. Of these, about 35% buy cheaper food, and about 27% borrow food."

Megaj pointed out, "The World Food Program is working this year to reach 849,000 people across Iraq, through monthly support for the most vulnerable people, building resilience and school feeding programs, in addition to government support, including digitization and reform of the public distribution system." He told the Iraqi National News Agency ( NINA ): There is a preliminary agreement to pass the Federal Court law, and last week a solution was reached for most of the remaining articles.

Al-Suhail added: A meeting will be held tomorrow, Sunday, to end the remainder and vote on it in a session next Monday.

Parliament is scheduled to complete consensus on the remaining paragraphs of the Federal Supreme Court Law and vote on the law at the next session.

Saturday 13, March 2021 19:33  Head of the Sunni Endowment Bureau, Saad Kampash, confirmed that: An Egyptian religious delegation headed by Al-Azhar Sheikh Ahmed Al-Tayeb will visit Iraq soon.

Kambash said, according to the official agency, that during his visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt, he met Sheikh Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayeb and delivered two invitations to him from Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and Parliament Speaker Muhammad Al-Halbousi to visit Baghdad.

He explained that: The Sheikh of Al-Azhar promised to visit Iraq as soon as possible, and his desire to advance the date of his visit to Baghdad increased.

Kambash added: An invitation will be sent to the Egyptian Minister of Endowments and the President of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Muhammad Mukhtar Mabrouk and the Mufti of Egypt Shawqi Ibrahim to visit Iraq.
