Butterfly   2021-04-26 07:00  Shafaq News/ Trading volume in Iraq's stock market surpassed one billion equities valued at more than 795 million dinars on Monday's session.

A report of the market obtained by Shafaq News agency said, "33 publicly traded companies cast out today of 103 enlisted companies," indicating, "19 companies were delisted by the Iraqi Securities Commission for violating the disclosure regulations."

"1,000,160,000 equities were traded today at a value of 795,808,000 dinars. ISX60 index ended up at 593.16, 0.62% less than last session's close," the report added.

Iraqiya for dates company, followed by Metal and Bikes company, were the top boosts to the index, notching a 3.77% and 1.72% gain, respectively. In comparison, Iraq's Baghdad for Transportation and al-Ahliya for agricultural products benchmarks index slid as much as -4.99% and -4.76%, respectively.

It is noteworthy that Iraq Stock Exchange installed Central Depository and Electronic Trading Systems in 2009 and currently bolstering efforts to deploy online transaction services. It organizes five weekly sessions and lists 103 public companies from different economic sectors.

The Director-General of the Authority, Laith Hamid Al-Jubouri, told Shafaq News Agency that his department granted 30 investment opportunities in the current year in various sectors in trade, agriculture, industry, and housing, indicating that the cost of the granted investment projects amounted to $720,341,250.

Al-Jubouri explained, "the committed granted seven investment opportunities in the commercial sector at $250,600,036, three tourism and entertainment projects at a cost of $2,946,453, eight housing projects at a cost of $421,285,551, four industrial projects at a cost of $6,605,000, three health projects at a cost of $6,421,452, and four projects within the education sector at $5,482,758, and an agricultural project at a cost of $7,200,000."

Al-Jubouri stated that all the companies are domestic, which secures about 6,500 job opportunities in the governorate.

The Ministry's spokesman, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, said in an interview with Shafaq News agency, "The monthly inflation index for last March rose by 0.7% compared to the previous month," adding, "the annual inflation index also rose by 4.3% compared to the same month in 2020."

"The increase in the dollar exchange rate since mid-December of 2020 has caused the devaluation of the local currency and the rise in the prices of goods and services, as most of these local goods are imported", he pointed out.

Al-Hindawi noted that the inflation rate has increased by about 5.6% from November 2020 until March 2021.

Last month, the Central Bureau of Statistics announced that the monthly inflation rate for February increased by 0.7%, while the annual rate increased by 4%.

Spot gold was up 0.1% at $1,778.22 per ounce by 0707 GMT. U.S. gold futures fell 0.1% to $1,775.70 per ounce.

Cases in India registered a record surge, while Japan declared states of emergency for Tokyo, Osaka and two other prefectures on Friday to combat a spike.

Speculators raised their bullish positions in COMEX gold in the week to April 20, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission said on Friday.

U.S. factory activity powered ahead in early April, while retail sales jumped to a record high in March and hiring accelerated.

Market participants now await Fed's two-day policy meeting starting on Tuesday. Although no change in policy is expected, the focus will be on Chair Jerome Powell's press conference.

Palladium rose 1.2% to $2,889.47 per ounce, after scaling a record peak of $2,925.14 on Friday.

Silver fell 0.2% to $25.95 per ounce. Platinum was up 0.6% at $1,237.01.

In the same context, the Supreme Judicial Council issued an apprehension order against the director of Ibn Khatib hospital among other employees in the hospital.
