Al-Sadr Responds To An Unannounced Message From The “Framework”: We Choose The Prime Minister And Dissolve The Factions Within 6 Months

Posted On 2022-06-07 By Sotaliraq   Baghdad / Tamim Al-Hassan   Once again, the coordination framework received a categorical rejection by the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, in the efforts of the Shiite group to form a partnership government.

The Sadrist movement had considered in its deliberations during the "second deadline" that the leader of the movement granted to his opponents, that "consensuality" means turning Iraq into a playground for regional states.

Amid great secrecy and tension between the two parties, the leader of the movement reiterated in a new response to the "framework" his intention to form a "majority government", and set a short time for dissolving the armed factions.

For more than 60 days, Al-Hanana - which is the headquarters of "Al-Sadr" in Najaf - has closed its doors in front of all attempts by the "Coordination Committee" to reach the leader of the movement.

Nevertheless, the coordinating framework managed to leak a few questions to the leader of the movement, in an attempt to find out his final response to the formation of a consensus government.

According to well-informed sources in Najaf, she confirmed to Al-Mada that "the Sadrist movement is committed not to communicate with the political forces, but there is the insistence of the coordination team to meet with Al-Sadr."

With al-Sadr's second term approaching its end, which was set for at least one month (starting on May 15th), the current leader finally responded to the messages of the "frameworkers".

According to the sources, the response to those messages confirmed once again that "there is no room for an alliance between the current and the framework... and there is no consensual government."

In his response, al-Sadr stressed that "the nomination of the prime minister is the one chosen by the Sadrist movement, after consulting with its partners in the National Salvation Alliance."

With regard to the request of the "coordinating body" to obtain 6 ministries in the next government, the Sadrist movement made it clear, that "the ministers must be independent."

In addition, Al-Sadr repeated his previous request to dissolve the armed factions. According to the sources, the leader of the current "granted the coordination framework for 6 months at most to dissolve these factions through a joint committee between the Ministry of Defense and the Popular Mobilization Forces."

Leaks had revealed in the first meeting that brought together "Al-Sadr" with the Coordination Framework Group in Baghdad, at the end of last year, that the leader of the current demanded "dissolving the factions" and "presenting the corrupt to the courts", without any political force interfering to protect them.

These demands caused, after that, the famous and only meeting that brought together all the "coordinating parties" with "Al-Sadr" in Baghdad, to widen the gap between the two parties.

According to what sources close to the meeting told Al-Mada, "Some frameworks fear that the leader of the Sadrist movement will try figures within the group, and disarm parties after dissolving the factions."

After that, twisted attempts by the "Coordination Committee" to ensure a minimum level of participation in the government began, before the Federal Supreme Court issued an explanation last February about the session to choose the president of the republic, which caused the emergence of what has become known as the "blocking third."

Prior to that, the "framework" tried to find a sovereign position for the leader of the State of Law coalition, Nuri al-Maliki (the most prominent leaders of the coordination), fearing that "Al-Sadr" intends to prosecute him in the future regarding the fall of Mosul and accusations of wasting 450 billion dollars during the last two terms as prime minister.

Last March, al-Sadr responded to the "Coordination Committee" that the continuation of the political blockage "is easier for him than agreeing with you and better than sharing the cake with you, for there is no good in a consensus government."

And he reiterated his refusal to ally with the "frameworkers" last month, when he described the "blocking third" as "nothing without authority."

He said in a televised sermon at the time, directing his words to the "blocking third" that "these actions of yours will compel us to ally with you, no and a thousand no."

Coordination opportunities.

With the leader of the Sadrist movement responding to the last “coordination” message, the “frameworkers” have no choice but to make a final proposal, part of which was revealed two weeks ago, and related to going to early elections and an interim government for a year, or waiting for what might come out of the Kurdish dialogues. -Kurdish.

It is assumed that the "Coordination" held a new meeting this evening (yesterday) at the house of the leader of the State of Law coalition called by the coalition parties on Monday, to determine its new options.

In the remaining solutions to the « frameworks », the leaks about the dissolution of Parliament indicate that the Sadrist movement is ready to hold early elections, but now prefers to continue to give its opponents more time to resolve the crisis.

As for the other solution related to the Kurds, it seems that the negotiation rounds between the two Kurdish parties "the Democratic Party" and the "PUK" have not yet reached a discussion of the issue of choosing the president of the republic.

The political crisis had reached a node in the (president's) elections, but Kurdish officials refuse to portray the crisis as being on the Kurdish side only, but rather accuse the "blocking third".

Yesterday, the Kurdistan Region's Interior Minister and presidential candidate, Riber Ahmed, confirmed that the blockage in the political process is not caused by the failure to choose a candidate for the presidency.

Ahmed added in an interview with reporters, "The solution lies in the agreement of the Shiite house itself, and without that, the political process will not return to moving forward."

Regarding the negotiations taking place between the two main Kurdish parties, Ahmed, a leader in the Democratic Party, said: "We met with the PUK and there is a rapprochement, but so far the presidency has not been discussed and there is no agreement on my withdrawal."   LINK
