CME Sets New Margin Requirements Following Wall Street Bets Silver Short Squeeze, Premiums Soar

I wanted to talk about the Wall Street Bets Silver Short Squeeze and physical silver shortage that has plagued the precious metals markets for much of the past year, The recent move in silver has a lot of people's attention and no I don't mean us.
I mean the real movers and shakers who have never noticed Us the CME Group announced it was raising margins on Comex silver futures by 18% after futures surged to an eight-year high, the exchange said in a statement.
Margins will rise to $16,500 per contract from $14,000, effective Feb. 2, according to the exchange. "The decision is based on “the normal review of market volatility to ensure adequate collateral coverage,” it said in a statement.
Silver dropped 2% on the news, falling from just above $29/oz to just below, overall we're sitting much higher than we were the other day and It's likely the move would have been more pronounced if it hadn't been for so many thinking this was a trick.

On Sunday, Ikhlas Al-Dulaimi, a member of the parliamentary finance committee, confirmed that no general agreement had been reached on the draft federal budget law for 2027, despite it being presented during the State Administration Coalition meeting yesterday.
Al-Dulaimi told Shafaq News Agency that the draft budget needs some amendments, noting that there is currently no government agreement between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government, as well as objections to the region’s share in the budget.

The Central Bank of Iraq has directed all licensed banks to implement updated scenarios for monitoring suspected cases of money laundering and terrorist financing, setting the end of December 2026 as the deadline for completing their activation on anti-money laundering (AML) systems.
The bank explained that the update is based on international standards, Financial Action Task Force (FATF) recommendations and Iraqi legislation, taking into account technological developments and financial products currently in use.
