Samson: Iraq is at the top of the list of countries at risk of drowning due to rising sea levels
3rd November, 2021
A recent study published by the French Press Agency showed today, Wednesday, that two Arab countries, one of them "Iraq", is at the top of the list of countries at risk of drowning due to the rise in sea level.
According to this study, more than 200 million people in the world are at great risk because they live near cities less than two meters above sea level, which puts them at risk of sea level rise and drowning.
The study showed that by 2100, the number of people at risk of sea-level rise could rise to 410 million, most of whom will be in regions of which 62% are in tropical latitudes. The study covered selected countries, with a population of more than 25 million people in 2010, who live on lands below high tide lines.
China ranks first in terms of the most at risk, followed by India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Egypt, the United States of America, Burma, Nigeria, Malaysia, Britain, Mexico, South Korea, Pakistan, Iraq and Italy.
Earlier, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson warned in a speech during the United Nations climate conference in Glasgow, that 3 cities, Miami, Alexandria and Shanghai, would disappear if measures were not taken to prevent a rise in global temperatures. “Four degrees and saying goodbye to entire cities, Miami, Alexandria, Shanghai, they will all be lost under the waves of the sea,” Johnson said. The penny, which has been in circulation since 1793, will officially be discontinued for general circulation under the proposed Common Cents Act.
Penny’s End Poses Rounding Challenge
Published July 16, 2026 Justin Bachman Senior Reporter
Merchants press for passage of a bill to enact rounding standards as cash-handling businesses grapple with the cent’s gradual demise. Businesses would gain new guidelines for rounding transactions if the government gradually phases out the U.S. penny under legislation Congress is considering.
The Common Cents Act, which passed the House of Representatives on Tuesday, enacts formal guidelines for businesses to round tabs to the nearest 5 cents as the U.S. gradually retires the penny.
The Currency Reset is imminent: “This Will Be Very Serious”: Alasdair Macleod
Liberty and Finance: 9-23-2026
Alasdair Macleod warns that escalating Middle East tensions could trigger a far broader economic shock through fuel, shipping, food, and global logistics disruptions. He argues that shortages of diesel, kerosene, and ship fuel could drive essential prices sharply higher while simultaneously pushing economies toward recession.
Macleod also warns that foreign demand for U.S. Treasuries could weaken just as Washington faces massive refinancing needs, potentially creating a debt trap and higher bond yields.

Analysis-As 5% Treasury Yields Lose Shock Value, Investors Start Worrying About 6%
By Marc Jones and Naomi Rovnick Wed, September 23, 2026

3 Savings Moves To Make Post-Fed Rate Hike
By Matt Richardson September 17, 2026 CBS News MoneyWatch: Managing Your Money
With interest rates rising again, savers will want to take certain steps now to take advantage.
Savers on Thursday woke up to a new financial climate marked by the first interest rate hike from the Federal Reserve in more than three years. Now at a range between 3.75% and 4.00%, a new, higher federal funds rate is expected to lead to even higher rates for savers than they've already been accustomed to in recent years. And while that change will look different based on the account type and the bank in question, savers are undoubtedly now entering a more profitable period, especially if the Fed proceeds with another interest rate hike when it meets again in October.
