Tishwash:   Al-Aradi stresses the importance of the trends aimed at digital transformation and its role in promoting economic perfor

Baghdad Economic Forum member Jassem Al-Aradi stressed, on Monday, the importance of the trends aimed at digital transformation and its role in promoting economic performance in Iraq.

Al-Aradi said during his participation in the Digital Transformation Summit in virtual Iraq, that Iraq desperately needs to develop automation and governance in managing the country's joints and moving to a better stage commensurate with the country's capabilities.

The Digital Transformation Summit was held in Iraq under the auspices of Asiacell, with the participation of many thought leaders and influencers from all over the world to share their ideas about the digital transformation strategy in Iraq. Among the prominent attendees were high-level government officials, decision-makers, strategists, digital innovators, digital transformation leaders, banks, financial institutions, donor organizations, and many more.

The summit, which was held hypothetically due to the pandemic conditions, included many critical topics and new ideas related to digital structural reforms presented in a series of dynamic seminars, interactive panel discussions, and strategic dialogues. Among these topics were the leap from the paper economy to the data-based economy, the implementation of the e-government program within government institutions, the acceleration of electronic banking services provision and financial inclusion, and the implementation of new e-learning systems that develop solutions to the current educational challenges in Iraq.

The summit discussed the emerging technologies in the world such as artificial intelligence, big data, cloud computing, analytics, robotics, and how these pioneering innovations should be used to contribute to the development of Iraq. One example used to illustrate this progress is Asiacell's data centers, which have proven to be the most appropriate reference for technological excellence in Iraq.

Despite the delay in digitizing many sectors in Iraq, the telecommunications sector is the most competitive and only advanced technology sector.

Asiacell, which was the first among telecom companies operating in Iraq, has assumed responsibility for transforming Iraq into a digital country, starting with organizing and supporting the "Iraq Digital Transformation Summit". With networking and communication technologies such as the Internet and the mobile phone, this summit will establish the seed for a digital national economy, enhance the competitiveness of technology between Iraq and the world, and open the doors wide for an exceptional quality of community life.

For his part, Asiacell spokesman and director of integrated marketing communications, Abdullah Hassan, said, "We are happy to have a leadership role in this summit, stressing our readiness to be the main player for change towards digital transformation in Iraq."

He added, "The number of subscribers to traditional mobile phone communications is currently approaching 99% of the population, while the number of subscribers to Internet services in Iraq has exceeded 30 million subscribers, which means that 75% of the Iraqi people connect to the international network of the Internet, and this is a positive sign.

That the number of users has exceeded the global average of only 50%, taking into account that the number of users has increased by 11 million Internet users in Iraq between 2019 and 2020 only! And that the percentage of smart phone subscribers to regular phones on our network is more than 72%, and this is an indicator.

Excellent, and the continuation of remote work and study is evidence of the Iraqi people's awareness of the role of digitization; therefore, the transition to e-government will certainly be a success for all parties.    link
