Samson: High prices kill the fun of shopping in preparation for Ramadan
1st April, 2022
Amid the rise in the prices of all food commodities, as a result of internal and external crises, the movement of citizens to shop in preparation for the month of Ramadan seemed almost weak, before entering the fasting month only one day, which the Iraqi markets have not been familiar with during the past years.
The lens of Shafak News Agency shows the accumulation of basic foodstuffs in the shops, in return for the low demand for purchase, as a result of citizens' hopes to provide government Ramadan baskets, which they had promised a few days ago.
The Iraqi Council of Ministers had promised to distribute a double food basket within the ration card and to disburse an emergency amount of 100,000 dinars (70 dollars) to vulnerable groups as an alternative to the price hike.
For years, Iraqi families flock to the Shorja market, famous for its various types of sweets, spices, tea and delicacies, to stock up on groceries and decorations in preparation for Ramadan. LINK

Samson: The First European Country To Suggest The Possibility Of Buying Russian Gas In Rubles
1st April, 2022
Slovak Prime Minister Eduard Heeger has not ruled out that his country will have to buy natural gas from Russia in rubles after the Russian President issued a decree in this regard, the Slovak newspaper SME reported.
“If we convert this (Russian demand that European consumers pay for gas in rubles) into Slovak terms, then the Slovak gas industry will have to first buy rubles in euros, and then buy gas in rubles from Gazprom,” Heger said. This step will increase Slovakia's dependence on Russia, and it will be not only energy, but also financial."
He pointed out that "the doubts of the Slovak authorities about the reliability of Russian gas supplies increased after the start of the military operation in Ukraine," and the Slovak Prime Minister said, "Therefore we are looking with all member states of the European Union for alternative solutions to protect our families and our industry."
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on the mechanism for paying for natural gas supplied to "unfriendly countries", including the European Union, in Russian rubles.
Based on the decree, customers in unfriendly countries must open accounts in the Russian currency in Russian banks, and the decree will enter into force as of April 1, 2022 (today, Friday). LINK

Pimpy ...Iraq, things aren't looking too good there. They cannot seem to get their government officials into office...they're supposed to have had already a president in place within 30 days. They obviously are a little past that. We're going on I think it's our 5th or 6th month and these people still have not got their president there. But now the courts are involved and threat once again of dissolving the parliament and moving into elections all over...
