From liberation to celebrations... Al-Sadr sets the course for an "unprecedented" demonstration
Posted On2022-08-15 By Sotaliraq The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, set next Saturday as a date for a demonstration, which he had previously described as "one million."
The Sadrist movement urged all Iraqis to crawl from all provinces towards Baghdad in support of their supporters' sit-in outside Parliament in the Green Zone.
The Sadrists are still holding a sit-in in Al-Khadra to demand the dissolution of Parliament and the holding of early elections, which is rejected by their opponents in the coordinating framework who have camped out at a bridge leading to the fortified area.
Al-Sadr said in a comment quoted by his representative, Saleh Muhammad al-Iraqi, "It was decided to set a date for the demonstration next Saturday, with the gathering in Tahrir Square first at five in the afternoon and then marching towards the Celebrations Square."
He added that the decision to launch the demonstration on Saturday came after a “prolonged discussion session,” stressing that the upcoming demonstration would be “peaceful and unprecedented in terms of numbers.”
Supporters of the coordination framework, which consists of political forces close to Tehran, insist on the need to form the new government and to resume parliament sessions.
This is the latest in a series of protests that have raised fears of unrest and clashes if the political stalemate that has been going on for nearly ten months continues.
Al-Sadr dissolved first in the recent elections, but did not succeed in forming a government devoid of Iranian-backed forces, and then withdrew his deputies from parliament.
The coordinating framework says that it is continuing to form the new government, even if it calls for parliament sessions to be held outside the Green Zone in Baghdad. LINK
Representative Of The National Union: The Fate Of The Iraqi Parliament Is The Solution
Posted On2022-08-15 By Sotaliraq A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan bloc in the Iraqi parliament, Aso Faridoun, confirmed that every day that passes without forming the Iraqi government harms the coordination framework, stressing that the fate of the Iraqi parliament is the solution.
Aso Faridoun, stated on Sunday (August 14, 2022), that every day that passes without the formation of the government harms the coordination framework, expressing his conviction that Iraq will witness early elections.
He believed that there are two solutions to the current situation, "the first is for Parliament to meet to form a government, and this requires a prior agreement between the Sadrist movement and the coordination framework, and to set a date for early elections, or for Parliament to have to dissolve itself under the pressure of the street."
Article 64 of the Constitution stipulates that Parliament be dissolved by an absolute majority of its members in two ways, the first at the request of one-third of its members, and the second at the request of the Prime Minister and with the approval of the President of the Republic.
Aso Fereydoun referred to the Sadrist movement’s resort to the Federal Court to dissolve parliament, saying that “the court can take its decision based on the parliament’s violation of the constitutional terms related to the formation of the government, and the parliamentarians perjured the oath they took under Article 50 of the constitution, to protect the sovereignty of Iraqi lands and the constitution, During the last ten months, they were not able to be at the level of trust that citizens gave them, and they were not part of the solution.”
A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan expressed his belief that “Article 64 of the constitution carries different interpretations, and in light of the conditions that Iraq is going through, it can pave the way for the Federal Court to be able to dissolve Parliament based on the failure of the members of the House of Representatives to perform their duties.”
This comes as the Supreme Judicial Council responded to the request of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to dissolve the Iraqi Council of Representatives, by saying that the Council does not have the authority to dissolve the Council of Representatives, and its tasks are specified under Article (3) of the Supreme Judicial Council Law No. (45). of 2017, which in its entirety relates to the administration of the judiciary only, and does not include any authority that allows the judiciary to interfere in the matters of the legislative or executive authorities.
A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan noted that the law allows the coordination framework to request that the parliament session be held in another place, explaining that Article 21 of the parliament’s internal system states that “the parliament sessions are held in Baghdad and can be held in other places when necessary.”
Regarding the visit of President Hadi al-Amiri to Erbil and his meeting with President Masoud Barzani at the head of a delegation from the coordination framework, Aso Fereydoun said that “the coordination framework needs that the political parties in Kurdistan agree among themselves, and I think that the coordination framework may want to move forward in forming the government, and that He pressures the Kurds to agree on a candidate for the position of President of the Republic.
On the possibility that the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party may reach a joint candidate for the presidency, he pointed out that the two parties consider the post of President of the Republic “a right for them so far, but if the coordinating framework decides to move forward with the political process, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party will have to agree to an agreement.”
A candidate for the presidency of the republic, because the situation in Iraq is sensitive, and its deterioration in Baghdad will increase the living difficulties of citizens in the Kurdistan Region, and the Kurds should not be an obstacle to that.” LINK
The Framework Is Fighting The Current Over Legitimacy, And Al-Sadr Breaks The Weights Of Politics With The Weight Of The Street
Posted On2022-08-14 By Sotaliraq There is no value for political weights in front of the weight of the street. The Sadrist movement is in the Green Zone, and the coordination framework is behind its walls, and the street has its weights as well, and it has in managing the conflict between the competing parties what goes beyond the policy of arm-twistger.
The framework rejects any early elections without forming a government, even if it is temporary, backed by a parliament that works to change the election law and its commission. By the judiciary and putting it to the test, which brings to mind Al-Sadr’s first demand, as one of those close to him says, “We are facing a radical change, and a different ruling equation, which will start after the overthrow of the corrupt.”
And here is the complex of the crisis scene ten months ago, exclusion will mean accountability and the upper hand on the opponents, which will turn the conflict into an existential process in a political process that may upend the Shiite equation.
Prominent politicians say that the dialogues have shifted from Al-Sadr's opposition to an attempt to adapt to him, as it is now related to the pivotal roles in the change process assumed by Al-Sadr's movement.
But the situation here brings the scene back to the circle of conflict once again. Who will distribute the roles in the new political process? How will the opposites gather on both sides of a table on which the wills intersect and differ in the interpretation of “legitimacy”? Within the logic of those who see themselves as the strongest politically, in front of those who see that the word for the street is the separation. LINK
