08/22/2020 11:11:17
The Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, met on Saturday at the US Congress, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi.
A statement by the Prime Minister's Office stated, "The meeting was attended by the Republican minority leader in the US House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, and members of the House of Representatives are all of the two Democratic parties, Anna Echo and Representative Stephen Lynch, and Republican member Devin Nunes."
He added, "The meeting discussed ways to develop bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States of America in the security, economic, educational and other fields, and discussed increasing the efficiency of the Iraqi security forces and their combat capabilities in a way that moves the relationship between the two countries to a new stage, as the issue of displaced persons and minorities was discussed."
Al-Kazemi stressed, according to the statement, "Iraq is a sovereign state, and dealing with it is in accordance with this principle, indicating the need to strengthen cooperation between Iraq and the United States of America, especially in the economic field."
He explained that "the prospects for cooperation between Baghdad and Washington are not limited to the security and military side only, but also to multiple areas that include rehabilitation and reconstruction of Iraq and building economic partnerships with the United States of America."
Al-Kazemi referred to "the form of the relationship between the two countries after the end of the war against the terrorist organization ISIS, and stressed that the strategic dialogue that took place between the Iraqi and American sides during his visit to Washington, has summed up several important points that will establish a new phase of bilateral relations between the two countries."
For her part, US House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi welcomed "the Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi and his accompanying delegation, and praised the steps taken by his Excellency since assuming his duties in the government, and the efforts made by the Iraqi government in the file of the components and the displaced." Pelosi indicated that "the United States of America supports the current Iraqi government and its national orientations."
In this context, Al-Kazemi stressed, according to the statement, "The file of the components and the displaced occupies a large part of the concerns of his government, and it is determined to return the displaced to their original areas, solve the problems facing Iraq's minorities and work to support and empower them."
MilitiaMan: When talking about Sovereignty we can safely presume monetary sovereignty is inclusive in that. There has been plenty of it talk about sovereignty this last week.. Now lets see if the CBI chimes in on the matter. Might be helpful.. lol imo ~ MM
Sovereignty is the full right and power of a governing body over itself, without any interference from outside sources or bodies. In political theory, sovereignty is a substantive term designating supreme legitimate authority over some polity.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Monetary sovereignty is the power of the state to exercise exclusive legal control over its currency, broadly defined, by exercise of the following powers:
Legal tender – the exclusive authority to designate the legal tender forms of payment.
Issuance and retirement – the exclusive authority to control the issuance and retirement of the legal tender.[1]

Tishwash: Kuwati to transfer 2b dinars to General Reserve Fund
Kuwait City: Kuwait’s Ministry of Finance is preparing to transfer 2.05 billion Kuwaiti dinar in liquid cash after the parliament approved a law limiting the transfer of state funds to the Future Generations Fund, Al Qabas reported.
The cash will be pumped into the General Reserve Fund, which will enhance the liquidity of the fund until the government finds alternative means of enhancing liquidity, a source told Al Qabas.
Law on fund transfer
On last Wednesday, the National Assembly passed a law that would limit the transfer of funds from the General Reserve Fund to the Future Generation Funds. The law would allow funds to be transferred contingent on a budget surplus, as in the past 10 per cent would automatically be transferred from the General Reserve to the Future Generation Fund each year.
The Future Generation Fund, the oldest sovereign wealth fund in the world, is set up as a security option for the future generations Kuwaitis. The General Reserve Fund is the government’s main source of budget financing. Both funds are managed by the Kuwaiti Investment Authority (KIA).
The source said that this transfer is a temporary solution. The transfer of 2 billion Kuwaiti dinars will not be sufficient to cover government spending, such as salaries, for more than a few months as long as the price of oil keeps dropping.
Economic downturn
Drop in oil prices and the COVID-19 pandemic have adversely impacted Kuwait’s economy with the government expenditure far exceeds the government revenue.
Last week, the National Assembly turned down a Public Debt law that would allow Kuwait to borrow 20 billion Kuwaiti dinars, over the next 30 years.
The General Reserve Fund depleted by 1.5 billion Kuwaiti dinars within last 38 days. The government has been tapping into the General Reserve Fund to obtain liquidity amidst widening deficit. S&P Global Ratings predicts that the General Reserve Fund will be unable to handle the economic downfall alone.
