Samson: The US administration is restricting Rouhani's moves in New York
24th September, 2019
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived in the United States on Monday to attend the UN General Assembly in New York, where the US administration has restricted his actions. Diplomats told AFP that the Iranian president was subject to the same strict restrictions imposed in July on members of the Iranian mission to the United Nations.
Rouhani's restrictions prevent him from moving away from UN headquarters on the East River bank on the east side of Manhattan. However, the US authorities granted him special permission to stay in a hotel. Rouhani is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Wednesday and hold a press conference. Rouhani's visit comes at a time of intense tension between Iran and the United States and amid speculation that he may meet his US counterpart Donald Trump.
Foreign officials attending the UN General Assembly usually spend some of their time in New York shopping or hiking in Central Park, but Rouhani is forbidden. A UN official said the US administration had previously imposed similar restrictions on foreign leaders it did not welcome, like the late Cuban leader Fidel Castro. The United States has long delayed issuing visas to members of the Iranian delegation, prompting criticism from several countries and calling for UN intervention.
As the host country, the United States is usually obliged to issue visas to diplomats working at UN headquarters. But relations between Tehran and Washington have deteriorated since Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and major powers and reimposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic. Iran responded Free of some of its obligations in the nuclear deal, which provided for the lifting of sanctions in return for curbing its nuclear program. Last week, Iranian state media reported that Rouhani and his entourage could be absent from the UN General Assembly because of the lack of visas.
Rouhani will have to move from JFK airport and UN headquarters using a tunnel linking Queens and Manhattan, as the administration's restrictions prohibit him from crossing any bridge in New York. Washington has allowed Rouhani and members of the Iranian mission to visit the residence of the Iranian ambassador on Fifth Avenue. LINK
Noneb4him: An end to interference?? hmmmm... who's interference, sir?
And I love love love that he has been restricted to the UN building, "unable to shop or hike". President Trump is protecting OUR borders with this one. IMO, confining a known aggressor is a good thing. And, imo, what if the confinement has to do also with keeping some of his deep state (state side) partners OUT of reach as well as keeping a tight leash on him. hmm...
Besides, why should he get to enjoy the "freedom of movement of capitalism" of a place he despises sooo much!
The writer also states "relations have deteriorated since Trump withdrew"... really? you sure the relationship wasn't already strained by the repeated lies and acts of terrorism??
Iran, if you want to play, you gotta pay! Our great President is letting you know, in no uncertain terms, that this game is over. IMO Thank you President Trump!

Salamon69: HUGE HUGE HUGE
They want control of money coming in and out of Iraq. Need safe guard in place now that their currency is going to change value soon and very soon....
Interesting they are giving the value in terms of USD instead of dinar. Their currency will soon be equal to the USD but they just cannot say it yet. So telling they do not give the numbers in dinars since they would have to put the current value of the dinar which is soon to change!
