MZ: What I am hearing from a number of bond contacts and people facilitating bonds is there is definitely some movement there. I have heard final contracts are going out early next week. This is from a number of my contacts.

MZ: There has been a little adjustment to percentages of facilitators…but this is exceptionally positive. This is something we have heard before but, it never came to fruition. This time it feels different to me. This is coming from multiple locations around the globe.  Contracts going out may be the biggest news of the day. Now we need to see people getting paid.

MZ: Very quiet on the Iraq side….at least for me.

Member:  Dr Shabibi told us that de-dollarization is CRITICAL in Iraq currency reform process, I think we're ready for the next stage!

Member:  Hopefully the brics meeting and aftermath will cause our desired results to come to fruition

CandyKisses:  Al-Saadi: Iraq's strategic location and position made Washington covet the return of its forces

Secretary-General of the Jihad and Construction Movement, Jawad Rahim Al-Saadi, confirmed today, Friday, that the location and strategic position of Iraq in the region and the world as a whole made Washington think about showing the true form of the presence in Iraq and announcing the presence of its forces instead of naming them as advisers.

Al-Saadi told Al-Maalouma, "America is seeking in various ways, through its ambassador in Baghdad, Elena Romanowski, to destabilize the situation and turn the people against the Sudanese government, especially since the citizen has begun to restore confidence in the government and the political process."

He added, "The American side seeks to prove its presence on the land of Iraq openly, as the current presence is one under the name of advisors, while Washington is trying to appear in its true form and change the name of the advisors to combat forces on the land of Iraq."

He pointed out that "the presence of advisers was scheduled within the strategic agreement with the American side, under which the military combat forces left Iraqi territory in 2011, but they are trying to return again, especially since Iraq has become a strategic country in the region and the whole world."

Baghdad Today - Translation

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Baqeri Kani announced on Thursday evening (August 24, 2023) that his country no longer has any frozen funds in Iraq and South Korea after the understanding between Tehran and Washington, stressing that "Iran now has full authority to manage its money in those countries." . 

Kani said in a statement to Press TV, translated by "Baghdad Today", that the "problem" that prevented the Iranian government from obtaining its funds in Iraq has actually begun to be resolved now, explaining that "the agreement with the US government also included the release of funds." Iranian held in South Korea. 

The Iranian official also stressed that his government "decided to keep some funds in those countries for the purpose of trade exchange," explaining that the agreement included obtaining the benefits that accrue from the commercial use of those funds, as he described.

It is noteworthy that the US and Iranian governments reached an agreement two weeks ago on the release of Iranian funds held in Iraq and South Korea under the sanctions imposed by Washington, in exchange for the release of US prisoners held by Tehran.

CandyKisses:  Iraq flees Iranian gas problems and US pressure towards Turkmenistan

Iraq has begun taking serious steps to diversify the sources of gas supplies and not rely on a single source in order to provide the necessary fuel for power plants.

Baghdad has reached a preliminary agreement with the government of Turkmenistan to import gas, in a move that could pave the way for easing the country's electricity crisis, which has worsened with declining Iranian gas supplies.

During the past 3 years, Iraq has faced several challenges to import Iranian gas, as pumping fell to low levels as Baghdad failed to pay its debts, due to US sanctions imposed on Tehran.

Undersecretary of the Ministry of Oil for Gas Affairs Ezzat Saber said that a high-level government delegation held meetings with officials in the gas sector in Turkmenistan, and it was agreed in principle to import quantities of gas to meet part of the needs of electric power plants, according to a memorandum of cooperation being prepared.

The memorandum of understanding is expected to be signed before the end of this year, and includes the proposed quantities and mechanisms to be adopted between the two countries.

Saber pointed to the importance of the agreement, which represents an advanced step to expand the horizons of cooperation with gas-producing countries, including Turkmenistan, which is one of the most important gas producing countries in the region and the world.

The delegation included Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity for Production Adel Karim and Director General of the Studies and Planning Department at the Ministry of Oil, Naseer Aziz.

Iraq's

moves to import gas are the first moves of the joint committee recently formed by the government from the ministries of oil and electricity to discuss importing gas from Qatar and Turkmenistan.

Electricity Minister Ziad Ali Fadel said in recent statements that the government has taken a set of decisions and formed a joint committee with the Ministry of Oil headed by the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Electricity for Production Affairs and advisers to the Ministry of Electricity.

He added that the committee will go with a delegation to Turkmenistan to study the possibility of contracting to import gas, and another to Qatar to discuss the possibility of supplying Iraq with liquefied gas through a port.

Iraq uses gas to operate power plants that are distributed in the center and south of the country, and collectively generate approximately 7,<> megawatts per day.

Baghdad's bill for gas imports is about 8 trillion dinars ($6 billion), with imports being carried out via tanker lines, whether with the Kurdistan region or Iran.

The Brazilian correspondent of the UOL website in Geneva, Jamil Chad, revealed the names of the countries that will accept membership in the "BRICS" group, according to a draft final statement of the group that he has seen.     

According to Chad, the statement named Argentina, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia as new members of the group. The selection of those States for membership in the Group had been taken into account geographical balance.  

Several countries have expressed interest in joining the BRICS with the fifteenth Emerging Economies Summit (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa).  

More than 20 countries have applied to join the group, including Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Bangladesh, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran and Vietnam. Others, such as Mexico, Pakistan and Turkey, have expressed interest in membership.  

BRICS countries account for 23 percent of global GDP and 42 percent of the world's population, but the group is heterogeneous: the five countries, spread across 4 continents, have economies with uneven growth.  

 Given the diversity of countries aspiring to join the group, "it's hard to see what the criteria for potential expansion are," said John Strimlow, a specialist in international relations at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.  

Observers say the entry of new countries into the group could change the group's geopolitical balances. The BRICS countries share a demand for a multipolar global economic and political balance.  

Among the countries competing for membership are traditionally non-aligned countries, such as Indonesia and Ethiopia. But there are also countries that are openly hostile to the United States and its allies, such as Iran and Venezuela.  

Kobus van Stadden, a South African scholar specializing in China-Africa relations, said "if Iran joins the BRICS, it will dramatically change the group's political scope" just as it would be if Saudi Arabia joined.  

The new development bank, set up by the BRICS Group in 2015 with the aim of offering an option other than the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund, accepted new members: Bangladesh, the United Arab Emirates and Egypt. Uruguay should soon become part of it.

Tishwash:  Economist: It is not in Iraq's interest to join the BRICS alliance in light of Washington's control over Baghdad's economy

The economic expert, Mustafa Hantoush, attributed the impossibility of Iraq joining the economic bloc “BRICS” to the control of the United States of America over most of the joints of the Iraqi economy.

"The BRICS alliance was formed on the basis of common interests between 5 countries, namely China, Russia, Brazil, India and South Africa, after which several countries joined the alliance," Hantoush said in a press interview seen by Taqaddam.

And Hantoush added, “Iraq has previous experiences, which put it before several countries’ lack of interest in any international sanctions imposed on it before 2003. Iraqi oil is free. Those countries did not buy it or sustain it.”

He added, "The influence of the BRICS alliance countries in Iraq is almost non-existent, and whoever talks about the existence of an influence of Chinese trade on Iraq, as it was linked to the factors of the invasion of Iraq after 2003, so the rates of Beijing's exports to Baghdad increased, and its economic and political influence compared to the American side on Iraq, is almost be non-existent.”

Hantoush explained, "The most appropriate decision for Iraq is to move towards joining the Arab Gulf Coalition, which has become this economic bloc allied with the United States of America. That is the American control over most of the joints of the Iraqi economy, so these alliances (BRICS) are not important for Iraq, and they do not advance or delay anything, except to provoke Washington's anger against Baghdad.  link

They know it and we know it.  Iraq does not have to rebuild their economy for the rate to change accordingly as the value is already present, just with the resources they can now exploit and sell...Once they do rebuild Iraq cities and grow their economy the dinar should also then adjust its rate and go even higher as thy plan to put it on a FLOAT when it is reinstated. ...No, it is not possible to float the dinar starting at the program rate...

Tishwash:  BRICS members agree to expand their bloc during the Johannesburg summit

The five member states of the BRICS group agreed on the principle of expanding their bloc that seeks to expand its influence, provided that decisions related to accepting membership of candidate countries are taken after studying their files.

The approval of the countries of the group (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) came during the summit of the group held in Johannesburg, South Africa.” South African Foreign

Minister Naledi Pandor said: “We have agreed on the issue of expansion, and we have adopted a document that sets out the guidelines, principles and mechanisms that are supposed to be followed to study requests countries that wish to become members of BRICS.

South Africa will host, from August 22 to 24, the fifteenth summit of the BRICS group of countries, in an effort to consolidate its role in the global economic system, as a number of files are discussed in the presence of more than 40 heads of state and government, in addition to leaders of the BRICS countries that include Brazil. Russia, India, China and South Africa. "

Since its founding in 2009, the BRICS group has sought to transform into a global economic power similar to the G7 industrialized countries."

The group was established at its first meeting in Russia under the name "BRICS" before South Africa joined it the following year and its name was modified to "BRICS", as the abbreviation constitutes the first letter of each of the five countries in it.

And during the current summit of the group, which indicates that it was established to achieve a global balance in light of American hegemony, about 40 countries expressed their desire to join the bloc, among them: Argentina, Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Ethiopia, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Kazakhstan, the Emirates, Egypt, Algeria, Kuwait, Morocco, Nigeria and Palestine. Tishwash:  Despite efforts to abandon it, the dollar's transactions globally are at a record level

Despite the increasing calls to abandon the US currency, the use of dollars in international payments increased last month, reaching an all-time high, according to the latest data of the global transfer system "Swift".

Dollar-related trading rose in July to a record high of 46 percent, which is just over a third a decade ago, and the dollar was the number one currency in terms of the number of transactions, followed by the euro, the pound sterling, and then the yen and yuan.

Although SWIFT data does not include the entire currency market, it shows the extent of dependence on the dollar, which still plays a strong role in international financing operations, even with the emergence of some efforts towards more diversification and the use of national currencies in trade exchanges.

The BRICS summit currently being held in South Africa is witnessing extensive discussions about the need to reduce dependence on the dollar and to seek the use of national currencies.

And the New Development Bank, which was established by the "BRICS" group, which includes five emerging market countries (Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa), announced that it would raise the share of financing in local currencies to 30 percent from less than 20 percent.

In his video address to the BRICS summit, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the dollar's share in the BRICS group's transactions fell by 28 percent, and that the reduction of dependence on the dollar continues "and cannot be reversed."

Major global banks use the Society for International Interbank Financial Telecommunications system, known as SWIFT, to communicate with each other and facilitate interbank currency deals.

The increased dollar earnings from SWIFT transactions came largely at the expense of the euro, whose share in international transactions reached a 2012 high of 46 percent. Last month, the common European currency's share of trades was at an all-time low, at just under a quarter, according to a Bloomberg report.

The SWIFT data also revealed the increasing frequency of yuan-related transactions, as the Chinese currency gradually became more integrated into global foreign exchange flows.

In July, for only the second time ever, more than 3 percent of transactions via SWIFT were in the yuan, while in 2010 this figure was only about 0.03 percent.  lin

Tishwash:  The coordination framework reveals that the differences over the oil and gas law have been overcome

 The leader in the coordination framework, Turki Jadaan, confirmed that half of the controversial paragraphs on the oil and gas law have been bypassed.

Jadaan said in a press interview followed by (Iraq Today), that "the number of outstanding points in the oil law reaches 14 points, half of which have been exceeded through meetings and discussions between specialized technical committees," pointing out that "there is political support by all parties in order to overcome All differences and obstacles to reach a space of acceptance support the option to approve it during 2023.

He added, "The adoption of the law will address the challenges of smuggling and the influence of foreign companies and contribute to restoring the administration's compass towards federalism, considering oil and gas as wealth for all Iraqi components."

He pointed out that "discussions are currently taking place and there are expectations that a preliminary report will be submitted on the size of what has been achieved next September to the government in order to discuss the possibility of resolving what remains in coordination with the political forces."

Oil and gas are among the important laws that have been postponed for 4 parliamentary sessions due to disagreements, and the government still has the purpose of coming up with substantive clauses that contribute to a consensus that leads to its approval.  link

MZ: From Iraq:   “  Al-Atwari stresses the importance of cooperation with the World Bank  to implement development projects”  These are the projects put forth in the budget. I think that implementation takes effect tomorrow. –If I remember correctly.

MZ: “The World Bank affirms the readiness to support the government reforms in strengthening the Iraqi Economy”  Part of this was the currency reform …and the World Bank is on board with this.  This economic reform supports a much increased VALUE to their currency…and prosperity for their people…..

MZ: “ Zimbabwean Central Bank starts implementing  African payment system”  We knew this was coming…..They are doing a gold backed blockchain to handle transactions in day to day operations. All of Africa will have a payment system that is seamless. I think this is huge.

MZ: This is all part of de-dollarization and strengthening  currencies. We are looking forward to Zimbabwe being in the first basket.

Clare:  The first comment from the Iraqi Foreign Ministry regarding the kidnapped in Iran: Good news will be announced within hours

Wednesday, the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs made, through Shafaq News Agency, the first comment about the kidnapping of a number of Iraqi travelers in Iran, and while it revealed the kidnapping party, it indicated that "good" news would be announced in the coming hours.

The ministry's spokesman, Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, told Shafaq News agency, "The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been following the issue with great interest for more than a week, as a result of information we received, and the Iraqi embassy in Tehran was instructed to communicate with the relevant authorities in Iran, and coordination was also made with the Iraqi national agencies on Security level High-level security communications took place between the specialized agencies in Baghdad and the specialized agencies in Tehran.

Al-Sahhaf said, "The kidnapping incident is the result of this group of Iraqi travelers dealing with a human smuggling network, as these Iraqis were caught, kidnapped as hostages, and bargained for sums of money."

He added, "Coordination is high with the Iranian side, and we have very positive information that reached us during the past hours. We may announce it in the next few hours. What is certain to us is that the whereabouts of the kidnapped have become known, and their number is also known, and the network that carried out their plan is a human trafficking network, and these The Iraqis tried to enter Iranian territory illegally, and they were caught by this network."

Al-Sahhaf continued, "The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs always warns at a high level of the dangers of dealing with human trafficking networks, as this is a real threat to the lives of travelers among the Iraqi people."

Clare:  The President of the Republic receives the Vice President of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa

His Excellency the President of the Republic, Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received today, Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at the Baghdad Palace, the Vice President of the World Bank for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Farid Belhaj, and his accompanying delegation.

During the meeting, Mr. President stressed the importance of the existing relations between Iraq and the World Bank, and the need to work on strengthening and developing them in order to develop the Iraqi economy, noting that Iraq is a founding member of international organizations and associations, pointing out to the importance of Iraq having an appropriate representation in these organizations.

His Excellency the President pointed out the importance of supporting Iraq's efforts to improve its environmental situation and rehabilitate the infrastructure in the fields of health and education, in addition to developing services and rebuilding Iraq after the victory over ISIS and continuing to defeat its terrorist remnants.

The President of the Republic also referred to Iraq's efforts, in cooperation with neighboring countries, to completely eradicate terrorism and get rid of the phenomenon of drug trafficking, as it poses a threat to everyone.
For his part, the World Bank's Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, Mr. Farid Belhaj, expressed his happiness to visit Baghdad and meet His Excellency the President of the Republic.

He stressed that the World Bank has distinguished relations with Iraq, as it is one of the founding countries, pointing to the bank's efforts to provide support to it.    LINK

Brian Hirschmann: $7000 Gold & The Global Debt Contagion Powder Keg

Brian discusses how many investors don't know how to value gold in comparison to other assets. He explains how they have a methodology for analyzing the gold price over long times. Currently it's below the fifty year average and that could cause gold to skyrocket in coming years.

 He explains why gold did quite well during the inflationary period of the 1970s. Gold is the one asset that has no counterparty risk.

Gold has seemingly lagged possibly because bond investors remain confident in their inflation expectations but should that perspective change we will see gold rise.

High inflation can be caused by excessive debt which can cause investors to dump that debt. This is especially a problem developing for the United States and some other Western nations.

He discusses the British Empires debt to GDP ratio and how they eventually defaulted on their obligations. He explains how Japan's approach differs but there situation remains precarious. Japanese depositors are now getting negative return when adjusted for inflation which has been increasing.

It's possible that depositors might decide to start investing elsewhere to seek returns. This could become a big problem for the Bank of Japan.

Brian explains why global bubbles are worsening and why we could see multiple collapses all at once.

Whatever bubble bursts first will take others with it. The situtation has only deteroriated and he expects to see higher inflation again soon.

He gives some targets for where gold and the miners could head as a result of the economic situation that is developing. Brian also talks about why the Mining ETFs and equities have largely not kept up with the gold price.

 A.I. will probably improve economic growth but it likely won't be the panacea to get us out of the coming crisis.

Demographics are contributing to the entitlement problems and why the budget looks awful. This also means a general decline in the labor force which is not good for GDP.
