Young_SC And people forget that Iraq had stated for this current leglaslative terms they will not be following the old traditional Monetary policy. They have made changes to it during the last current session. The traditional monetary policy does not fit them at this time as stated by the GOI in the March 20th article

A year or so ago when somebody asked the CBI about floating the currency their response was that they weren't going to float AT THIS TIME and it was taken out of context as if they were saying no float ever.
But that's not the truth, the truth is they were not ready to float at that time and proper translation of the article was necessary because all countries float eventually especially Emerging Markets.
And there have been many examples of countries moving from fixed to float over the last few years. Even several in the Middle East"

Kaperoni As for the website, I have nothing to do with the website other than just to post on it. Again it was just a website that I found and agreed to stay there and post and make no money on the site I never have. Anyone who comes to the site knows that.

Kaperoni Zig that number is accurate because it's not only on the CBI website in their own documents, it comes out frequently in public articles, and the IMF also reports such.
Who are you going to believe these professional organizations that print the factual information or these speculators who have no idea how monetary policy works?

Kaperoni Why else would Parliament need to be involved? Because they would have to approve such an event and pass a law accordingly. If you look at any other country that has Parliament has to approve such an event it is the same thing under the conditions of Iraq. Parliament would approve it they would lie and it would be a neutral event

Kaperoni And all indications from Iraq are that they are planning to build and launch a market economy. And if that occurs then the CBI will need a tool to offset inflationary pressure created by such an event and that tool is to float the currency. believe it or not, but that is the tool

Kaperoni Zig, the IMF has significant influence over the CBI because they are the trustee. That was made official in December of 2015. And has stayed in place since. That is why you have seen the progress at the CBI the way you have pertaining to monetary policy, the spread, money laundering, etc

Kaperoni Baxter, frustrating yes. But I don't look at it as putting this off I look at it as just another step in and a bunch of steps. And the CBI is simply not ready at this point because the other steps have not been been completed.

larrykn Zig Iraq has always lied about things so I would say you just don't know but they did say they were not going to , I see a lop as not a good thing for them but you just never know.
Kaperoni Anything is possible in Iraq zig. But considering the IMF is the trustee over the CBI it is unlikely a LOP would be something the IMF would approve of. I would only see that occurring if the economic conditions failed for the development of the market economy and left no other option

Kaperoni If they launch the market economy as they have been aggressively trying to move towards and have presented it to be included in the budget of 2020, then I see no reason for a LOP.
And in fact at that point I would see the CBI Implement moving to a float to allow the currency to appreciate to offset inflationary pressure created by that influx of capital through the capital account of the CBI. Remember the number one job of the CBI is to maintain monetary policy and reduce inflation.
