As I said, a lack of understanding in respect of the Monetary unit. Zimbabwe has only ever had one monetary unit, the Zimbawe Dollar, but there has been four Zimbabwe currencies ZWD,ZWN,ZWR & ZWL.
Iran are planning to change both the monetary unit, from Rial to Toman, and the currency IRR. Highly likely the new Iranian currency will be IRT.
People keep asking of it was a redenomination, why not done already. Very simple, as it is a change to the monetary unit it would require an act of parliament. It is very difficult to get the Iraqi parliament to agree on anything. If a redenomination is on the cards it is not going to be anytime soon.
People should bear in mind that a change in value is not based on any singular event.
sandy The terms "revaluation/devaluation" gets used out of context, it means when a country on a fixed exchange rate makes a change to the official rate of exchange.
In 1967 Harold Wilson devalued the GBP by 14%. At that point in time the GBP was still the most widely used currency for foreign reserves so every country holding GBP had an adjustment in the exchange rate.
No country, other than the UK devalued their currency, it was effectively a global currency reset.

Portmagaland Here's a another good read about the U.S. possibly devaluing the dollar, which I've been advocate with the belief that such a move would help the value of the dinar to reach a level that would poke holes in Kaps theory.
With that said Kaps theory on the surface is reasonable and that's why I feel the dollar has to drop in value, so we can possibly see a 1 to 1 exchange or higher on our end, but that's just me thinking out loud. Again time tells all.
Sparky Portmagaland ...in order for a sitting president, to have executive power to enact laws, without normal legislation...there must be a "war "...ie ....war on drugs, trade war, war on any country...etc.. therefore, we are always in some form, or fashion of war...circumvents the Constitution...so, they can do whatever suits their fancy at the time..m
Sparky ... therefore, the current trade war serves two purposes...one, to allow Trump to do whatever he chooses, and two...can correct the unfair advantage of China trade exports, via currency manipulation...low value is beneficial to exporting...that is why I say, Iraq would benefit from a higher valuation... as they require imports to rebuild their country...
Sparky...some, if not all will be done through USD, or allies...maybe Paris club beneficiaries that "forgave debt, owed by the Saddam Hussain government...they probably did currency swaps as well... Just a thought...
