25k Iraqi Dinar notesBaghdad – Mawazine News, former MP Sabah Al-Tamimi commented, on Tuesday, on the news circulating about the current government’s direction to change the exchange rate of the US dollar against the Iraqi dinar.

Al-Tamimi said in a statement that Mawazine News received a copy of it, “The change in the exchange rate of the hard currency against the national currency, again during this period, will lead to the devaluation of the Iraqi dinar.”

Al-Tamimi warned of the danger that “this new financial approach will lead to an economic crisis that is many times worse than the Trinity crisis that struck Iraq last year.”

She indicated that “the continued spread of this news, which is a real intention of the government, will lead to the collapse of the Iraqi dinar, and the rise in the dollar exchange rate to above the barrier of 200 thousand dinars.” Ended 29/A 4    mawazin.net

Dave   **** A former deputy warns of a government tendency to raise the dollar exchange rate: The dinar will blow up!    …… a bitter spectator?

Dave  1186 to1460......CV....crash on oil......being oil dependent ......IQD has crashed 19 cents to the dollar in recent months........with oil now on the rise......?????

butterfly  Dave I look at all of this information as speculation.............as we are speculating on the dinar.

butterfly  2021-06-01 15:17   Shafaq News / The Security Media Cell reported that the most prominent terrorist supporting ISIS cells had been arrested on the left side of Mosul.

The cell said in a statement that accurate intelligence information confirmed the presence of a prominent female terrorist in al-Qadisiyah neighborhood on the left side of Mosul, who held an administrative position in the so-called Diwan Al-Hisbah before the liberation of the ISIS-controlled cities, and is currently one of the most prominent terrorists supporting sleeper cells by providing them with money.

According to the source, the security forces raided the house the terrorist was staying at and arrested her.

butterfly  2021-05-31 08:07  Shafaq News/World Health Organization, at the heart of the world's slow and stuttering handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, faces a potential shake-up aimed at preventing future outbreaks from destroying lives and livelihoods.

Health ministers agreed on Monday to study recommendations for ambitious reforms made by independent experts to strengthen the capacity of both the U.N. agency and countries to contain new pathogens.

Under the resolution submitted by the European Union, and adopted by consensus, member states are to be firmly in the driver's seat of the reforms through a year-long process.

The new virus has infected more than 170 million people and killed nearly 3.7 million, according to a Reuters tally of official national figures.

Health ministers from WHO's 194 member states will also meet from Nov. 29 to decide whether to launch negotiations on an international treaty aimed at boosting defences against any future pandemic.

butterfly   WHO's emergencies director, Mike Ryan, welcomed the decisions, telling its annual ministerial assembly: "Right now the pathogens have the upper hand, they are emerging more frequently and often silently in a planet that is out of balance.

"We need to turn that very thing that has exposed us in this pandemic, our interconnectedness, we need to turn that into a strength," he said.

The decisions, approved in committee, are due to be formally adopted in a plenary session later on Monday, the last day of its week-long assembly.

One panel, headed by former New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, a former president of Liberia, said that a new global system should be set up to respond faster to disease outbreaks to help ensure no future virus causes a pandemic as devastating as COVID-19.

The experts, who found crucial failures in the global response in early 2020, said that the WHO should be given the power to send investigators swiftly to chase down new disease outbreaks and to publish their full findings without delay.

They also called for setting up a Global Health Threats Council, to be led at the head of state and government level, to maintain political commitment to pandemic preparedness.

"The world was hit by this virus unprepared. And if another virus emerged tomorrow this would be still be the case," Björn Kümmel, of Germany's federal health ministry, said last week.

"A green light for this treaty process is the greatest commitment to learn from this crisis that this Assembly could have sent out. It is the most effective way to make sure that the global health crisis becomes the final one."    Source: Reuters

Dave   agreeD.... just commenting...G7 nations have been getting clobbered....imports on furniture up 275% lumber 300% ......gas everything has gone up.........Poor nation like Iraq has done well keeping their head out of water i figure.

Dave   Would not be surprised if the average cost has gone up by the same measure in the last 1.5 yrs.......in our nations...speaking about Canada it sure has.....

Dave  CBI has mentioned this CHUNKY MONEY,,,,,,,,i suppose they could make it chunkier?

Dave  after IQD blows up......call it TP.........

sheila   Sound of Silence by Disturbed (Conan) -- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bk7RVw3I8eg

Dave  sheila yes the sounds of silence would be disturbing should the IQD blow up......

butterfly   Dave I learned a long time ago that I can't control things that are not in my hands. If it does, YEHAW, if not, BOOHOO. I am just the odd duck that does not focus on IF........

Dave    butterfly certainly had higher expectations of their Govt to accomplish crossing the Start line after all these years

Dave   Federal Supreme Court could have teeth......not sure yet?

butterfly   Dave As I've stated from my beginning posting articles again, there has been a change, but ONLY baby steps. I could not believe the change, but I don't see anything happening anytime soon. They have more steps,no lots of those baby steps.

butterfly   Dave Remember the FSC is all new and they are finding their way.

Dave    hehe.......To Maliki's pocket?

butterfly  they are still dealing with a LOT of corruption

Dave  so the recent articles you been posting

butterfly  ?

Dave   \corruption...corruption followed by more corruption arts

butterfly   People do not understand and I can't get people to understand. It is like a cult mind. They were told how to think, drink, eat, etc. for DECADES by a Dictator. Like a cult mind, it takes "years" to cleanse, and that is what Iraq is going through.

butterfly   You still have people in there telling them how to think, drink, eat, etc.................

butterfly  They don't realize that there is a "good" side to life, but they have never experienced it, so they will be lead by their noses.

BobbyC   Iraq saved their ass by not passing the complete Federal Court Law. As far as chunky money, did they add notes to the circulation with the devalue?

Dave Protesters did make a difference before CV hit..........

Dave   BobbyC Iraq does now have a complete FSC fer months now?

BobbyC   Dave Indeed. They allowed for the substitutes to be enacted. The original Bill had em swaying towards veto power within certain groups, Sunni and Shiites on the Court. What they passed allowed room for the October Elections to take place. I'm still curious about the note count post devaluation

BobbyC   Someone sent me something in regards to a comment I made about the IQD becoming a Reserve Currency. To clarify that, if the IQD becomes international, it will become a Reserve Currency due to Trade Agreements involving the IQD. I think some took it as to mean a Reserve Currency involving the SDR Currencies. Not what I meant

Dave   Once globally tradeable banks will keep IQD in reserve like we keep pesos rupee etc

BobbyC  That will also involve the IQD becoming part of Iraq's debt process. Now if some believe the IQD we hold will simply go away due to a re denomination, that's definitely a possibility

BobbyC  Dave EXACTLY

BobbyC  Those countries will hold the IQD due to cross country trade and some tourism aspects

Dave  BobbyC 10 yrs fer banks to redeem them.....

BobbyC   Dave 10 years at what rate? lol

Dave  happy fer a nickle......

BobbyC   I'd wet myself over a nickle.** I'd wet myself if they took the present day IQD international at 1460. That would mean we're in the game

Dave   BobbyC not feeling any inflationary pressures where you live?

Dave   Iraq has SQUAT currently

BobbyC   Well if we go by the Consumer Price Index, everyone's feeling it. Didn't just start with Biden, it's been an ongoing process with Covid involved. Will it get worse? Probably

Dave   yeah we have credit cards here...lol   iraq not so much

BobbyC   lol I got rid of those. Actually kept one for emergencies. Hurricane season in Texas made me do that

Dave   yeah 1 2x4 12 bucks here.......

BobbyC   You'd be surprised at how far Iraq has become digitally and that includes credit cards

Dave   30% of their population actually have bank accounts

Dave   all Govt employees.....

BobbyC   OFC the kicker to that is they are forced to by government salaries being put into the Banking System The only problem there is they aren't allowing much room for loans to the Private Sector. The guarantee thing, State salaries, comes into play

BobbyC  Dave 100% on the Govt Employees. That has to change. Mahdi made that promise and that sunk Iraq financially

Dave   BobbyC Private Banking Laws......?

BobbyC   Now we sit back and watch how they handle the rise in Oil prices above and beyond the budgeted price

BobbyC   Iraq has pretty much every Law on the books needed, Implementing and enforcing those Laws is where it gets complicated

Dave  BobbyC yeah just a final reading......

BobbyC   Will some need amending? Cas in point the FSC Law. That was the most recent I believe

BobbyC   Case

Dave   HCL/Art 140.....alot of oil money tied to that....?

BobbyC  You can forget about the HCL and 140

BobbyC  The HCL will liberate Iraq's Energy Sector and 140 will need a National Referendum

Dave   BobbyC Census you mean.....

Dave  Done

BobbyC   Well that's part of 140. If they abide by the true meaning of 140, it will cost billions and a total rehabilitation of the disputed areas. It would involve going back decades and locating the people that were lawfully living and owning land and giving them back their rights to that land. If one were to read 140, you'll see something called Article 58. That details 140

BobbyC   The Kurds were responsible for the Census taking place in 2007 I believe, They never did one

BobbyC   That Census was involving Art 140

BobbyC   Now they need to do a National Census to determine Political and economic distribution

Dave   BobbyC recollect Maklis Arabitization of the disputed territories that almost created a war?

BobbyC  Actually it goes way back to Sadam

BobbyC  As far as 140'

Dave  even with Maliki......

BobbyC  Yeah maliki was a douche for sure and yet still yields probably the most power in Iraq

Dave  65 billion usd....

BobbyC   Think about this. We all know about the Maliki's and Barzani's corruption yet once again who yields the power.....STILL

BobbyC   Where the International Community screwed up was giving Iraq back their Sovereignty

Dave   Reports from Iraq call em WHALES

BobbyC   I say the IC, but mostly the UN

BobbyC Just them still being around and having Political sway tells you how deep this goes

Dave   over 10 yrs ago i suggested we would see nodda until Makiki gets hauled away in chains

BobbyC  And 10 years later no one could argue your point

BobbyC   Now even with all that, Iraq has made great strides, they just need to get away from State Owned Entities and open the Market to privatization. That includes the Oil/Energy and Banking Sectors

Dave  PRIVATE BANKING LAWS ....to protect foreign investments.....

BobbyC  It's all their Brother   :) There are no restrictions on Iraqi Banking, nor the IQD. It's the backroom dealings that bite em in the ass. Again implementation and enforcement of such laws

BobbyC  Now some restrictions apply because those backroom deals

BobbyC   Look at what the EU did as far as the Black List

Dave   BobbyC havoc and instability keeps these dudes in power

BobbyC   It wasn't becasue the Laws, it was the breaking of those Laws   :)

BobbyC   Dave 100% Chaos keeps eyes off of them

Dave  postpone and dely ......maintains their IMMUNITY from prosecution

Dave  Black List.....as per the UNSC

Dave   same list applying in other nations as well same captions.....

Dave   could clean this up quite nicely in days......benefit everyone immensely save those politicians

BobbyC  So lemme ask you this. Would those sanctions/blacklist involve the US Treasury?

BobbyC  The US Treasury does deal with the USD and Iraq pretty much runs on USD right?

BobbyC  I say runs on the USD because they exchange their Oil proceeds for IQD

Dave  have heard Treasury is holding IQD

BobbyC  Why would they hold IQD?

Dave   heard Bush took some......pay fer war???

BobbyC I heard Trump owns it as well

BobbyC   If they were smart they wouldn't lol

BobbyC   Going back to those Sanctions. There is no sanctions from the US involving Iraq's Banking. nor the currency   There are sanctions against entites and individuals involving Iraq. Wonder why Maliki and Barzani aren't on that list

Dave  Canada EU Australia certainly do,,,,,,,,,as per the UNSC resolutions

BobbyC  What resolution's?

Sheila   Dave Foreign Currency is an Asset, like metals, land, oil, etc...

BobbyC   If Iraq as a country were sanctioned, it would have to be after they were given their Sovereignty in 2004   So the IQD is sanctioned?  Why would they sanction a currency that is used 99.99% in country?

BobbyC   Or did they Sanction the USD which Iraq uses in Trade and Debt payment?      You can go on the UST website and see what currency's they hold in Reserve

Dave   https://sanctionsmap.eu/#/main

Dave   https://www.international.gc.ca/world-monde/international_relations-relations_internationales/sanctions/iraq.aspx?lang=eng

BobbyC  So within that list we see certain aspects of the UN Sanctions over Iraq pertaining to the Sadam era and some subsequent to the lifting of Sanctions by the UN. Yes there are sanctions against some businesses and individuals via the OFAC List and those continue today. Now we have to separate that from those entities and Iraq as a country. That's where it gets complicated and complex.

Dave    BobbyC Kuwaiti deal not yet done …   banking feeze

BobbyC  2003.......WASHINGTON -- The United Nations this morning lifted sanctions against Iraq following a 14-0 vote in the Security Council.

The vote on U.N. Security Council Resolution 1483 lifts sanctions imposed on Saddam Hussein's regime following the Persian Gulf War. The resolution also gives the United States and the United Kingdom authority to control the country until an elected government is in place.

The United States, United Kingdom and Spain proposed the resolution. It will allow the controlling powers to finance reconstruction of Iraq out of Iraqi oil proceeds following more than two decades of Hussein's rule.

"It is a resolution that will lift sanctions, after 13 years, off the backs of the Iraqi people," Secretary of State Colin Powell said just before the vote.

Dave   Almost out of Chapter7........

BobbyC   Yep Kuwait reparations will continue under Ch 7 because Kuwait would be foolish to let it go into Ch 6. Under Ch 7, Kuwait still hold all the cards and the UN allows it because if Iraq screws up elsewhere, that Ch 7 would be in play

Dave   stilll owe Kuwait ....only 2 billion usd

BobbyC   Yep and that deal was made years ago to pay percentages until 2022

Dave   either your ch 7 or not......

BobbyC  Ch 7 has many many sub paragraphs depending on the severity

Dave   funny been about 2-3 billion fer 5=6 yrs

BobbyC  Yeah they stalled in 2014 with ISIS and Oil prices

Dave   no WTO......no imf

BobbyC  No economy, no WTO lol

Dave   sanctions.....

BobbyC   *** they were suspended from their Mineral declarations by EITI … Well we could argue sanctions all night but I look at this from our UST which pretty much governs money movements.....

There currently are no broad-based sanctions in place against Iraq, but there are certain prohibitions and asset freezes against specific individuals and  entities associated with the former Saddam Hussein regime, as well as parties  determined to have committed, or to pose a significant risk of committing, an act of violence that has the purpose or effect of threatening the peace or stability of Iraq or the Government of Iraq or undermining efforts to promote economic reconstruction and political reform in Iraq

Dave   BobbyC Only comment on what i read

BobbyC  That's why we see an updated OFAC list every week adding or removing entities within Iraq. Most recently were people associated with the PMF within Iraq

Dave  Trump had IQD and failed to press that buttom....lol

BobbyC   Ha Ha Ha Ha    Hopefully Biden bought some  … I'm on board with you on sanctions being in place. I just differ on who those sanctions involve  .. If ya wanna see sanctions come back to Iraq, look at the demonstration and how they are being handled

BobbyC  The only reason we don't see em is because the UN knows, for now, that the deadly assault on demonstrators are not government sanctioned. These assaults, including kidnappings, are nothing new

BobbyC   But I want to remain positive so I'll go read Recaps and Dinar Gurus. Goodnight

butterfly  2021-06-01 05:11  Shafaq News / the Central Bank of Iraq on Tuesday, announced an increase in the foreign currency exchange.

Shafaq News Agency correspondent said that the foreign currency auction of the Central Bank of Iraq recorded a 0.51% increase to 196,376,000 dollars which the bank covered at an exchange rate of 1460 dinars per dollar.

He added that the sales operations were in the form of wire transfer and credits (146,226,000$) and cash money (50,150,000$).

Last December, Iraq’s central bank increased the sale price of U.S. dollars to banks and currency exchanges to 1,460 dinars, from 1,182 dinars, seeking to compensate for a decline in oil revenue due to low crude prices.

The central bank of Iraq said the key reason behind the dinar’s devaluation was to close the gap of widened 2021 budget inflation after a collapse in global oil prices, a major source of Iraq’s financial resources.

butterfly   2021-06-01 03:10  Shafaq News/ Gold prices scaled a near five-month high on Tuesday, driven by a weaker dollar and growing inflationary pressures, while investors awaited more U.S. data to gauge the extent of the global economic recovery.

Spot gold was up 0.4% at $1,915.01 per ounce by 0636 GMT, its highest since Jan.8.

U.S. gold futures rose 0.6% to $1,917.20.

“Gold prices are riding a very strong upward trend ... this is against the backdrop of a falling U.S. dollar and also inflation concerns,” said Margaret Yang, a strategist at Daily FX.

“Perhaps another fundamental factor behind gold is the return of Chinese and Indian buyers. In the near-term, if gold can breach the $1,922 per ounce mark, it can open the room for further upside potential.”

The dollar index was down 0.3% against its rivals, making gold less expensive for other currency holders. The U.S. unit registered its second consecutive monthly loss.

Last week, data showed U.S. consumer prices surged in April, with a measure of underlying inflation blowing past the Federal Reserve’s 2% target.

Market participants’ focus this week will be on key U.S. economic readings, including non-farm payrolls data due on Friday.   Source: Reuters.

The MoU commits the leading telecommunications company and the UNDP Iraq to work together on several initiatives, including supporting young entrepreneurs and start-ups in developing innovative solutions to local challenges alongside UNDP Iraq's Accelerator Labs;

Also supporting an online platform designed to connect entrepreneurs with potential investors; and promoting opportunities for long-term, sustainable youth employment. "Through their passion, creativity, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit, young Iraqis today are the agents of change and have the potential to build a resilient and inclusive Iraq - particularly as the country moves on from multiple crises, including the ISIL conflict, the economic difficulties due to declining oil prices, and the COVID-19 pandemic. Today we are proud to partner with Asiacell to nurture young talent, but also help secure the future of Iraqi youth by providing long-term employment training and support," says Resident Representative of UNDP Iraq, Zena Ali Ahmad.

butterfly   "Partnering with the UNDP is a valuable addition to our continuous programmes, which will yield a positive impact on the Iraqi youth. The many challenges entrepreneurs face does not end with the successful founding of a company around a product or a service in Iraq.

The Iraqi unfertile technology business ecosystem coupled with the pandemic has made the transition from science to sales even more complex for start-up companies that launched before March 2020, as markets, funding sources, and priorities have shifted.

We are full of confidence that this new set of initiatives we are working on right now will have an immeasurable positive effect on the Iraqi economy." says Managing Director & Chief Executive Officer of Asiacell, Amer Al-Sunna.

The MoU was developed based on the recommendation of the solid study of Iraq's economic recovery from COVID-19 to expand social security coverage for vulnerable groups, increase revenue generation from partners like Asiacell to fund key development programmes, and allocate more resources to develop the private sector. Tuesday 1 June 2021 | 12:45 pm   General Electric - A plan to end the burning of gas associated with oil extraction in IraqThe General Electric Company has prepared a plan to end the phenomenon of gas combustion associated with the oil extraction process, while it intends to establish two electric stations, one of which is the largest in Iraq, to add about 2,200 megawatts to the network.

The Executive Director of the company in Iraq, Rashid Al-Janabi, said that the company’s staff have reached the last steps to complete the Zubair plant, which will add 700 megawatts of electric power, in addition to that work is still underway to expand the Basmaya power station, the largest in Iraq, to introduce an additional 1,500 megawatts to reach 4,500 megawatts.

He added that among the immediate solutions that can be quickly benefited is the installation of mobile units TM2500 in the oil fields to benefit from the associated gas for the production of electric power and in a period not exceeding several months to produce hundreds of units in megawatts, which the national network greatly needs, and to end the phenomenon of burning associated gas, which affects the environment Iraq to a large extent.

And he indicated that (GE) is fully prepared to support Iraq in providing the necessary funding to build strategic projects to cover its need of electrical energy resources, and its financing capabilities depend on global expertise and on solid relations with export insurance agencies in several countries around the world, as well as with major institutions Finance, where we have already, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Finance, secured the financing of several important projects in the energy sector, with a value of more than two billion US dollars.

And regarding the impact of the Corona pandemic on the company’s work in some stations and what projects were implemented during the past six months, Al-Janabi explained that General Electric began, months ago, to form a working team in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and the relevant departments to facilitate work even during times of curfew. Al-Janabi confirmed that the company is also working to support the national electricity transmission network to open up bottlenecks and deliver the electricity produced to Iraqi cities and governorates, where GE has completed four transformative stations, two of them in Baghdad and two in Karbala.   aynaliraqnews.com

butterfly   Iraq .. high oil revenues and expectations of a decrease in the budget deficit

Tuesday 1 June 2021 | 05:34 PM   Iraq .. high oil revenues and expectations of a decrease in the budget deficitThe Ministry of Oil announced that it achieved revenues of more than five billion and 882 million dollars from the sale of oil for the month of May only, an increase of about 300 million dollars over the revenues of the previous month.

Iraq is awaiting the next meeting of the OPEC group with oil-producing countries outside it, to increase production in light of the great recovery in demand due to the start of life returning to normal due to the increase in vaccines against the Corona virus and the beginning of its decline in many countries, which increases Iraq’s share in exports, according to many observers of prices market.

During the month, Iraq exports about 90 million barrels, and after the OPEC meeting, it is scheduled to raise its quota by about 5 million per month, which is reflected in the revenues generated and reduces the deficit in the current year’s budget.

On this issue, the economic expert, Faleh Al-Zubaidi, said in a press statement that “the rise in dollar prices and the difference between the price of a barrel in the budget for this year from the market price is up to 25 dollars per barrel and expectations that oil prices will exceed this year the 70 dollars barrier, which will contribute to reducing the budget deficit and does not end it.” .

Regarding the disability rate, Al-Zubaidi adds, “It is not possible to calculate the percentage of the disability decrease, because it is measured on an annual basis, and only four months have passed from the previous year.”

For his part, the Rapporteur of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Ahmed Al-Saffar, said, “The difference between the current oil price and the planned price in the budget, which was set at (45) dollars, is used to finance the deficit in the budget, and is also used in the investment budget.”

butterfly  Al-Saffar asserts, “It is not possible to convert the price difference into job grades.”

Observers of the movement of the Iraqi economy confirm that “the difference in the selling price of oil may lead to a decrease in the deficit, especially since it is hypothetical and not real. Port taxes and revenues. aynaliraqnews.com

butterfly  An Iraqi campaign against corruption is hovering around the big heads and does not reach them

6-1-2021   An Iraqi campaign against corruption is hovering around the big heads and does not reach themOn Monday, the Iraqi authorities announced the issuance of fifty-three arrest warrants and summonses against current and former high-ranking officials, including parliamentarians, ministers and governors, on corruption charges.

This measure came as part of what the authorities say is a campaign to curb widespread corruption in the joints of the state, but political and media activists question its feasibility, stressing that it includes only certain levels of officials, and does not affect the large “whales” of influential people, leaders of ruling parties, armed militias, etc. Associated with them lobbies.

Iraq is considered among the most corrupt countries in the world, according to Transparency International’s indicators over the past years.

Those familiar with the Iraqi issue affirm the existence of a state of awareness of the danger of the phenomenon of corruption on the cohesion and continuity of the state, which is reflected at least by the speech of senior state officials such as President Barham Salih, who recently compared corruption and terrorism, but they consider that the Iraqi state and its institutions are in a state of weakness that does not allow By besieging and uprooting the phenomenon, as some corrupt parties have become so powerful and empowered that state agencies are contesting their authorities, and this applies to armed militias.

The Iraqi Integrity Commission, an official body concerned with prosecuting corruption, said in a statement that the judiciary has issued, since last April, 8 arrest warrants and 45 summonses for investigation against senior officials against the background of cases and files related to corruption.

butterfly   She explained that those orders included 3 members of the House of Representatives (Parliament) for the current session, as well as a member from previous sessions.

She added that “the arrest and recruitment orders included a former minister and two former ministers, in addition to 8 governors, including two current ones, and 15 general managers, 7 of whom are current and 7 former and a former general manager, and the orders also included 23 members of provincial councils.”

And last August, Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi formed a special committee to investigate major corruption files, and assigned the tasks of executing arrest orders to a special force headed by the ministers.

Last week, the Federal Supreme Court of Iraq introduced an amendment to the immunity system granted to members of Parliament, in a legal procedure that accompanied a broader momentum of demanding reform and fighting corruption, which the Parliament has often considered one of its focal points through the control of political forces represented under its dome in the selection of government officials from ministers. and administrators and use them to loot state funds and illegally seize its public deals.

The court, which is the highest judicial authority in Iraq, abolished the immunity granted to members of Parliament against flagrant felonies, misdemeanors or infractions. Arrest and summons order against current and former high-ranking officials, including MPs, ministers and governors

butterfly   The Iraqi parliament’s deputies enjoyed absolute immunity from all crimes and charges against them, and no judicial or security body had the right to arrest them or hold them accountable until the parliament voted to lift their i0

And a statement of the Federal Court said that “obtaining Parliament’s approval to lift the immunity of a member in only one case is the issuance of an arrest warrant for a crime of the type of unaccounted for crimes.”

He added that “other than that, there is no immunity for members of Parliament, and legal measures can be taken against them directly if any of them are accused of a flagrant felony, a misdemeanor or a violation.”

Unwitnessed crimes are crimes that are not based on compelling factual evidence, and are reported by informants.

Over the past years, hundreds of lawsuits have been filed against members of Parliament, on charges related to financial and administrative corruption, and others related to forgery of certificates, and abuse of powers, but the judiciary was unable to hold them accountable because of their parliamentary immunity.

During the popular protests that have repeatedly exploded in the country for years due to the spread of corruption and the deteriorating conditions of the country, parliamentarians have been a main target of the protesters, who accuse them of fraud and corruption and say that they only represent themselves and the interests of their parties.

butterfly   Iraqi President Barham Salih said on Sunday that the oil revenues that have come to his country since 2003 are estimated at about a thousand billion dollars, most of which were wasted and about 150 billion dollars were smuggled abroad.

This came during his presentation of a new draft law to Parliament aimed at combating corruption, recovering public funds that were lost as a result of embezzlement, and prosecuting those responsible.

Saleh also called for “the formation of an international coalition to fight corruption similar to the international coalition against ISIS.” Corruption and terrorism “are interconnected, interdependent and perpetuate one another, and terrorism can only be eliminated by drying up its sources of financing based on corruption funds as a political economy of violence.”

The draft law targets individuals who have held important positions in public institutions and administrations since 2004, as well as those close to it, with the aim of recovering assets they have collected through corruption, whether they are located in Iraq or outside it.    rawabetcenter.com

butterfly   2021-05-31 02:36   Shafaq News/ A scoop at The Washington Post by John Hudson and Louisa Loveluck revealed that Iranian-backed militias were able to target a “secret CIA hangar” using a drone in April. This attack hit a hangar in Erbil in the autonomous Kurdistan region.

This is a major escalation and shows careful planning and complex know-how by the Iranian regime and its militias in Iraq. It means that Iran was able to transfer the drone itself to Iraq and gather the intelligence on the apparent location of this secret site, which is inside a known US facility, and precisely set the drone to strike it.

This kind of kamikaze drone is similar to the technology Iran used to target Saudi Arabia’s Abqaiq and similar to the kind of drones the Iran-backed Houthis use to attack Saudi Arabia and drones that Hamas unveiled in recent attempts to attack Israel.

Iran has thus transferred its drone threats all over the region.

The attack in Iraq is particularly interesting because US bases are supposed to have some sort of defenses against this known and rising threat. US CENTCOM head Kenneth McKenzie has warned for a year about the rising threats of drones in the region. He warned in March 2020, and again in February 2021.

butterfly   We've spent billions of dollars in the Department of Defense on counter drone systems. I'm concerned that we're still under grave threat from them. But I'm also encouraged to see that your command has been experimenting with so many new and more effective counter drone systems,” he told the US Senate in March 2020.

The US has sent Patriot missiles, C-RAM and other defenses to Iraq to stop ballistic missiles and rocket threats. The US army has also acquired two Iron Dome batteries which can be used against drones, although this is not linked to the current threat in Iraq.

The drone attack alarmed the US according to the report. It has led to questions about the warehouse and whether Iran knew specifically who was running the building. Remains of the drone were recovered after the attacks. The article says that the drone was used a new method after years in which pro-Iran militias used rockets, such as the 107mm.

The “evolving drone threat” is a major concern in Iraq. “The drone’s flight was tracked to within 10 miles of the site, but its path was then as it moved into a civilian flight path, the coalition official said,” according to the report. “Preliminary analysis suggested it was made in Iran.”

butterfly    The White House was unnerved. The facility was covert and the attack was sophisticated. The April 14 attack was the first major drone attack by the pro-Iran militias in Iraq. However, they have provided Kataib Hezbollah with drones in the past to strike at Saudi Arabia in May 2019 and again in January 2021. Another drone was used to target Al-Asad base in May 2021.

The type of kamikaze drone used in Iraq is not known. It could be like an Ababil or Qasef what Hamas calls its Shehab drone. This is a drone about the size of a person with a warhead and guidance up front and two sets of small wings. It is launched from a catapult. However, Iran has a plethora of other types of kamikaze drones.

According to the Twitter handle Alex Almeida, the drone attack may have targeted a hangar housing one of the CIA or Special Operation Command’s contractor-operated turboprop aircraft that fly from the base and which are used for reconnaissance and intel gathering missions. The US has its own drones at the base, according to Joseph Trevithick at The Drive.

He wrote in May that a Long Endurance Aircraft Program drone crashed in July 2020. This kind of drone is basically a small prop plane that looks no different than a civilian two-seater aircraft but has had everything removed and flies autonomously now as a UAV. According to online sleuths who use OSINT to find information, a hangar was damaged by the April drone attack on Erbil airport.

According to the image showing the damage, the location is a hangar in the central eastern part of the base near an area where chinook helicopters are parked. This is a huge, sprawling base that has expanded with the war on ISIS and also likely expanded as the US reduced forces in other facilities. How one would determine to attack that specific hangar, out of dozens of other locations and hundreds of buildings, is unclear. The particular complex is unique for having four buildings with red-colored roofs.

butterfly   f an Iranian-backed militia used a drone to target a hangar where drones fly from, this could be one of the few instances of drone versus drone combat, using drones to take out other drones.

Targeting US drones in Iraq using Iranian drones may be a sort of new drone "world order", so to speak, taking place in the Middle East, especially if Iran knew this hangar was used for surveillance droned that might one day be used against its own forces in Iraq. The region, as it were, is now rapidly approaching a kind of cross between The Terminator, Robocop and Skynet, as machines are doing the fighting and people are just watching computer screens – though we may not be there quite yet.

At the very least the US needs to be concerned that Iran is collecting intelligence on its covert and secure sites, its hangars and other systems in Iraq, and that Iran’s vastly expanding precision missile and drone technology could be used more in the future.

The drones give Iran some plausible deniability because they can be launched by Iranian proxies. However, the gyroscopes and other systems on the drones link them to Iran, at least in the past.

It should be noted that a drone mysteriously entered Israeli airspace on May 18 and was shot down by Israel. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later said it came from Syria or Iraq. A drone damaged a hangar in Asad base in Iraq on May 8. The Erbil attack was on April 14. These attacks may all be linked and have an address in Iran.   Source: Jerusalem Post

butterfly   2021-05-31 09:46  Shafaq News / OPEC oil output has risen in May as the group agreed to ease supply curbs under a pact with allies, a Reuters survey showed, although a drop in Iranian exports and involuntary reductions in African members limited the increase.

The 13-member Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries has pumped 25.52 million barrels per day (bpd) in May, the survey found, up 280,000 bpd from April. Output has risen every month since June 2020 with the exception of February.

Hoping for a global demand recovery, OPEC and allies, known as OPEC+, decided from May 1 to ease more of the record supply cuts made in 2020. OPEC+ meets on Tuesday and delegates expect producers to stick to the existing plan.

"The oil market looks in very good shape ahead of tomorrow's meeting," said Eugen Weinberg of Commerzbank. "Despite the mobility restrictions that are still in place, oil demand is recovering dynamically around the world."

The OPEC+ agreement allows for a 277,000 bpd increase in OPEC output in May versus April, plus Saudi Arabia had pledged to add 250,000 bpd as part of a plan to gradually unwind a 1 million bpd voluntary cut had made in February, March and April.

But with reductions in other countries offsetting the Saudi move, the increase in May OPEC output found by the survey is less than expected, and the group is still pumping much less than called for under the deal.

OPEC compliance with pledged cuts was 122% in May, the survey found, versus 123% in April.

butterfly   The biggest increase in May of 340,000 bpd came from Saudi Arabia as it began to unwind the voluntary cut and raised output as part of the May 1 OPEC+ boost.

OPEC's No. 2 producer Iraq also pumped more in May, the survey found, adding an extra 70,000 bpd and pushing output beyond its quota.

Libya, one of the OPEC members exempt from making voluntary cuts, boosted output in May after a force majeure on oil loadings from the port of Hariga was lifted.

These increases were limited by involuntary reductions elsewhere in the group. The biggest drop was in Nigeria, where exports slowed from a number of terminals. Angolan supply, in long-term decline, also declined.

Iran, which has managed to raise exports since the fourth quarter despite U.S. sanctions, exported less in May due to lower demand in China.

Talks with world powers on reviving its nuclear deal could soon lead to higher Iranian exports.

The Reuters survey aims to track supply to the market and is based on shipping data provided by external sources, Refinitiv Eikon flows data, information from tanker trackers such as Petro-Logistics and Kpler, and information provided by sources at oil companies, OPEC and consultants.   Source: Reuters

butterfly  2021-05-31 12:23  Shafaq News/ OPEC+ is likely to stick to the existing pace of gradually easing oil supply curbs at a meeting on Tuesday, OPEC sources told Reuters, as producers balance expectations of a recovery in demand against a possible increase in Iranian supply.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and allies - known as OPEC+ - decided in April to return 2.1 million barrels per day (bpd) of supply to the market from May to July, as it anticipated global demand would rise despite surging coronavirus cases in India.

Since that decision, oil has extended this year's rally and has gained more than 30% so far in 2021 towards $70 a barrel. But the prospect of higher Iranian output as talks on reviving its nuclear deal make progress has limited the upside.

OPEC Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo said he did not expect higher Iranian supply to cause problems.

"We anticipate that the expected return of Iranian production and exports to the global market will occur in an orderly and transparent fashion," he said in a statement.

A meeting of OPEC+ experts called the Joint Technical Committee (JTC) took place on Monday. The JTC confirmed OPEC's forecast for a sizeable, 6 million bpd jump in world oil demand in 2021 focused on the second half, OPEC+ sources said.

Tuesday's meeting is due to be attended by oil ministers from OPEC+.

Two more OPEC+ sources said on Monday they do not expect OPEC+ to decide on output policy beyond July, since the outlook for Iranian supply is not yet clear. OPEC has another meeting planned for June 24.

The JTC also revised global supply down by 200,000 bpd and now expects a deficit in 2021 of 1.4 million bpd from 1.2 million bpd previously, a document seen by Reuters showed, a sign inventories will decline faster than expected.

OPEC+ cut output by a record 9.7 million bpd last year as demand collapsed, and the bulk of those cuts remain in place. As of July, the OPEC+ curbs will stand at 5.8 million bpd.

butterfly   2021-05-31 12:32

Shafaq News / Oil prices firmed on Monday, with Brent trading near $70 a barrel, underpinned by the bright outlook for fuel demand growth in the next quarter, while investors looked ahead to the OPEC+ meeting this week to see how producers will respond, Reuters reported.

Brent crude futures last traded up 60 cents, or 0.9%, at $69.32 a barrel at 1614 GMT, having earlier touched a session high of $69.82. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude was at $66.87 a barrel, up 55 cents, or 0.8%.

U.S. and UK markets are closed on Monday due to public holidays.

Both contracts are on track for a second monthly gain as analysts expect oil demand growth to outstrip supply despite the possible return of Iranian crude and condensate exports.

"Despite the mobility restrictions that are still in place, oil demand is recovering dynamically around the world," Commerzbank said.

Iran has been in talks with world powers since April, working on steps that Tehran and Washington must take on sanctions and nuclear activities to return to full compliance with the 2015 nuclear pact.

The Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and their allies including Russia will meet on Tuesday.

butterfly  The group known as OPEC+ is expected to stay the course on plans to gradually ease supply cuts until July.

"Trading excitement often drives the market just before OPEC+ meetings, and there is confidence that the oil producer group will demonstrate supply restraint at its meeting on Tuesday," Louise Dickson, oil markets analyst at Rystad Energy said in a note to clients.

A Joint Technical Committee (JTC) for the alliance kept its global oil demand growth forecast for 2021 unchanged at about 6 million barrels per day, two sources from the group told Reuters on Monday.

Separately, crude output in the United States soared 14.3% in March, the Energy Information Administration reported on Friday, while Baker Hughes data showed the number of oil and gas rigs in operation rose for a 10th month in a row last week.

butterfly   2021-05-31 14:19  Shafaq News / A medical source reported that the first official mucormycosis death in Iraq had been registered in Dhi Qar.

The source told Shafaq News Agency thatthe disease was discovered by coincidence upon the death of the patient.

"The man's initial death document stated that he died from a fungus in the eye, but a specialist doctor examined the case and then discovered by chance that the man died due to his infection with the black fungus disease",the source said.

Mucormycosis is a fungal infection that causes blackening or discoloration over the nose, blurred or double vision, chest pain, breathing difficulties and coughing blood.

The disease has a close link to diabetes, and conditions which compromise the immune system. Experts have said that an overuse during the COVID-19 pandemic of certain drugs which suppress the immune system could be causing the surge.

Data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that mucormycosis has a mortality rate of 54%, which can vary depending on the condition of the patients and the body part affected.

The disease is not contagious, which means that it cannot spread from contact between humans or animals. But it does spread from fungal spores that are present in the air or in the environment, which are almost impossible to avoid.

Committee member Muhammad al-Shabki told Shafaq News agency, "the general budget law for 2022 will be implemented by the government and parliament before the end of the parliamentary session and elections are held, but this will not be achieved until the middle of next year."

He indicated, "there must be a financial report submitted by the Ministers of Planning and Finance to the Council of Ministers that includes a set of risks and purchases to reach successful plans to prepare the Budget Law for 2022."

"The budget will not be ready for voting after the elections because the parliamentary session would have been expired at the time. It is expected that the debate will continue over the election results, their approval, holding new parliamentary sessions, and forming the next government."

The source said that the resumption of the Kurdish-Kurdish dialogue relies on the guarantees that the U.S. Deputy Special Envoy to Syria, David Brownstein, will offer in his anticipated meeting with the ENKS.

"The meeting will be held in the next few days," he added, "the reasons that prompted the U.S. Deputy Special Envoy to postpone the meeting are unknown."

"ENKS called on the U.S. Deputy Special Envoy and the Commander of SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces), Mazloum Abdi, to stop all the violations committed by the security forces affiliated with the Autonomous Administration against the proponents, members, and leaders of ENKS, and put an end to the accusations made by the Democratic Union Party (PYD) on media towards the leaders of the ENKS and Peshmerga Rojava to provide an appropriate atmosphere to resume the negotiations."

Under the auspices of the United States and the supervision of the SDF Commander, Mazloum Abdi, ENKS and PYD engaged in negotiations to unify the Kurds in Syria and introduce the ENKS in the governance of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria.

Initially, the negotiations were fruitful as they resulted in the establishment of a political reference for a mutual administration of the Region and drafting a "political code".

Shafaq News/ Gold prices rose on Monday and were headed for their biggest monthly jump since July 2020, boosted by a weaker U.S. dollar and lower bond yields, while growing inflationary pressure also lifted demand for the metal.

Spot gold was up 0.1% at $1,905.14 per ounce by 0637 GMT, while U.S. gold futures gained 0.2% to $1,908.80. Spot prices have risen nearly 7.7% so far this month.

Most markets will be closed in the United States and Britain on Monday for public holidays.

“Gold is pretty much drawing its strength from inflation fears and some inclination of the yields,” said Stephen Innes, managing partner at SPI Asset Management.

“The dollar is staying weaker, that’s fairly supportive. Gold bulls now have their eyes set on $2,000, and most are thinking it’s going to go quite a lot higher.”

The dollar index eased 0.1% against its rivals, while the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield fell to 1.593% on Friday, reducing the opportunity cost of holding non-interest bearing gold.

Data on Friday showed U.S. consumer prices surged in April, with a measure of underlying inflation blowing past the Federal Reserve’s 2% target and posting its largest annual gain since 1992.

Gold, often used as a hedge against inflation, has benefited from recent data showing a rise in prices in the United States and Britain.

Investors’ focus this week will be on U.S. payrolls data due on Friday, with median forecasts suggesting they will show an increase of 650,000.

Spot gold, riding on a wave C from the May 13 low of $1,808.44, may test resistance at $1,919 per ounce, a break of which could lead to a gain into the $1,932-$1,953 range, Reuters technical analyst Wang Tao said in a report on Monday.

Palladium was up 0.4% at $2,837.38 per ounce, but was set for its first monthly decline in four. Platinum climbed 0.4% to $1,181.76.

Silver gained 0.1% to $27.91 and was heading for its largest monthly gain since December.  Source: Reuters

butterfly  Saudi Fund for Development agrees $10m export financing deal with National Bank of Iraq

Agreement will provide a revolving credit line for Iraqi importers of Saudi Arabian goods and services..............May 30, 2021............The Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) signed a $10 million export financing agreement with the National Bank of Iraq to provide credit facilities to the Iraqi lender.

The funding will help Iraqi companies to buy Saudi goods and services and will help to strengthen trade relations between the two nations, the SFD said in a statement on Sunday.

“This agreement reflects the strong ties between the kingdom and Iraq, and our mutual desire to increase co-operation across several sectors. It is part of an ongoing $1.5 billion that the Saudi government allocated to support reconstruction and development projects in Iraq," SFD chief executive Sultan Abdulrahman Al-Marshad said.

“Supporting stability in countries seeking to achieve sustainable economic and social development is one of the main priorities of the SFD and through this agreement we seek to achieve prosperity for both nations.”

butterfly   Iraq is developing stronger trade ties as it attempts to diversify an economy that is almost entirely reliant on oil revenue. The country's economy shrank 10.1 per cent last year as it was hit by the double blow of Covid-19 and low oil prices. A liquidity crisis sparked by its public sector salary load and pension payment obligations also led to the government devaluing its currency, the dinar, in December.

The agreement between the SFD and Capital Bank-owned National Bank of Iraq in Jordan will extend $10m in a revolving credit line to Iraqi companies, with repayment periods of up to 36 months, depending on the type of imports and the nature of the trade being financed.

“This line of financing will expand trade between Iraq and Saudi Arabia by providing credit facilities for Iraqi investors to import Saudi products and services at competitive prices. It will also increase transport links between our two nations and stimulate the financial and commercial sectors,” said Capital Bank's chairman Basem Al-Salem.

Al-Talibawi said in a statement, “When our (defense) minister confronts the Americans, he tells them that the Iraqi army needs a minimum of seven years to complete its capabilities, and that it cannot now confront ISIS alone, so he frankly asks them to stay.”

He added: “As for the crowd, he says that the Iraqi army can face a country alone.”

He stated: “We want him (the Minister of Defense) to be brave and jealous and say these words to the army of the foreign country, which says that it will remain because the Iraqi army alone cannot confront ISIS, and not to his compatriots, the sons of the popular crowd who say that the Iraqis do not need a foreigner to help them defend their homeland. “.

Sunday 30 May 2021 | 01:08 PM Parliamentary Finance reveals the reason for the high exchange rate of the dollar in IraqOn Sunday (May 30, 2021) the Parliamentary Finance Committee revealed the reason for the high exchange rate of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar in banking .

Committee member Jamal Cougar said, “This increase is normal, because the Ministry of Finance sells dollars to the Central Bank of Iraq for (1450), and the Central Bank sells to (42) banks by adding (10) numbers, and these banks sell to local banks also with an addition of (10) ) Numbers, and then the circulation between the citizen and the local exchange, adding some numbers to them, and this is why we find that the increase is normal . ”

Cougar believed that “the great fear of a large increase in the exchange rates of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar is not true, and it is very unlikely, especially because there is control by the competent government agencies over the exchange rate in the Iraqi markets, and that is why there is no fear of any significant rise in the Dollar exchange rates . ”

It is noteworthy that the exchange rates of the dollar increased slightly during the past days, approaching 150 thousand dinars per 100 US dollars, despite the Iraqi Central Bank specifying 11450 dinars per dollar, or 145 thousand dinars per 100 dollars.   aynaliraqnews.com

butterfly 2021-05-28 12:30 Shafaq News/ The WHO’s European director warned on Friday that the Covid-19 pandemic won’t be over until at least 70 percent of people are vaccinated, while deploring that the vaccine rollout in Europe is still “too slow.”

“The pandemic will be over once we reach 70 percent minimum coverage in vaccination,” the World Health Organization’s regional director for Europe Hans Kluge told AFP in an interview.

Kluge also said that one of his main worries was the increased contagiousness of new variants of the novel coronavirus.

“We know for example that the B.1617 (Indian variant) is more transmissible than the B.117 (British variant), which already was more transmissible than the previous strain,” Kluge said.

According to the Belgian doctor, speed is “of essence” in pandemic.

“Even when WHO declared a pandemic, many countries were still waiting, we lost valuable time.”

While the regional director, who has held the position since February 2020, lauded calls for solidarity he stressed that a speedy rollout of vaccines was of the utmost importance.

“Our best friend is speed, the time is working against us, the vaccination roll-out still goes too slow,” Kluge said.

“We need to accelerate; we need to enlarge the number of vaccines.”

In the 53 countries and territories that make up the WHO’s European region -- including several in Central Asia -- 26 percent of the population has received a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.

In the European Union, 36.6 percent of the population has received at least one dose, according to a count by AFP.   Source: AFP

butterfly  Iraqi activists worry about election security

Some parties that grew out of the October protests have withdrawn candidates from the upcoming parliamentary elections over security concerns.

butterfly May 30, 2021  Activists and youth groups that joined the political sphere in Iraq over the past few months have spoken of the risk of assassination they face because of their decision to run in the parliamentary elections scheduled for October 10 of this year.

The threats and assassinations have prompted them to back out of the elections. This, in turn, has pressured Iraq’s political leadership to acknowledge the presence of armed danger.

On May 20, Iraqi President Barham Salih stressed the need for a safe environment for early parliamentary elections and called for holding the killers of activists and journalists accountable.

Salih's remarks came after nearly 22 parties and grassroots movements withdrew and planned to boycott the elections, Al-Monitor learned. The parties and movements have yet to officially notify the electoral commission of their withdrawal.

Saeed Jassani, an activist from Wasit province south of Baghdad, announced his withdrawal from the elections due to threats he received and also because he was denied access to his area and the right to hang up campaign photos, he said.

Candidates felt an increased threat of assassination following the killing of Ehab al-Wazni, a prominent activist in Karbala province, on May 9. Some political blocs began to sense the danger of assassinations that could target independent or moderate candidates competing against financially and politically influential parties or armed groups in the near future.

butterfly   On May 9, Iraqi cleric Ammar al-Hakim, head of the Iraqioun parliamentary bloc, called on members of his bloc “to summon security leaders so as to learn what steps they have taken to identify those involved in the kidnapping and assassination of activists and media professionals.”

Following Hakim's call, former Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi warned against “declining electoral security indicators,” in a clear reference to the withdrawal of candidates from parties and groups that were formed in the wake of the October protests.

Hussein al-Gharabi, founder of al-Beit al-Watani (National Home) Party, which was born out of the protests, said, “Prior to Wazani’s killing, we indicated that democratic elections should be held based on electoral justice and in a safe electoral atmosphere. We will not give legitimacy to a regime at a time when the government did not identify the killers of activists and protesters.”

Speaking to Al-Monitor, he said Wazani's assassination wass the moment they decided to boycott the entire political regime and not just the elections.

The electoral boycott is not only limited to parties that formed after the protests. Secular parties, such as the Iraqi Communist Party and the People's Party for Reform, and other legislative forces, such as the Iraqi Union for Labor and Rights and the al-Bina bloc, also are boycotting the vote.

Jassem al-Halfi, a top official of the Iraqi Communist Party, said “the assassination of activists and the spread of arms — which the official security services are unable to control — are in and of themselves an indication that there is no safe environment for the elections.”

butterfly  Iraqi politicians said a number of candidates were threatened with assassination if they did not withdraw from the elections. These are mostly independents who decided to run in the elections either independently or on lists of parties that sprung from the protests.

Speaking to Al-Monitor, Abbas al-Anbori, head of the Rewaq Baghdad Center for Public Policy, did not deny that the parties that grew out of the protests were subjected to assassinations and pressure. However he believes the threat of assassination is not the reason behind the withdrawals.

He said, “The nature of the withdrawals were based on the new parties’ belief that the requirements are too many and that they cannot compete with the large parties that have a lot of money, more experience and popularity. That is why they decided to [withdraw].”

The withdrawal of secular forces — as well groups that grew out of the protests — means protests will be back in full swing in the coming period. These young people did not find hope in the constitutional and democratic mechanism — specifically via the ballot boxes.

These groups and activists will resume activity in the squares to impose themselves on the ground. They believe that none of their demands have been fulfilled. Even when it comes to the demand for holding early elections, the insecure and unstable environment does not allow for fair and just elections, they say.

Meanwhile, the Independent High Electoral Commission of Iraq — the body charged with overseeing the parliamentary vote — has rejected attempts by candidates to withdraw from the polls. In the commission’s view, parties that submitted candidacies are not entitled to withdraw them, in accordance with the electoral law of 2020.

butterfly  On May 9, liberal parliament member Faig al-Sheakh tweeted, “Following the assassination of martyr Ehab al-Wazani, I withdraw from the parliamentary elections and call on the secular forces and the October revolutionaries to withdraw and get ready for the revolution against Iran and its dirty militias in the coming months. The only option we have is to overthrow the system of criminal killers.”

The al-Beit al-Iraqi (Iraqi Home) bloc took the same step of boycotting the elections after Wazani’s assassination. It also announced it would call on others to boycott as well.

Yet while the withdrawals will affect neither the elections’ legitimacy nor their recognition at the international level, they will widen the gap between the people and the political regime.

Sunday 30, May 2021 09:48...........The global company, General Electric, specializing in the fields of energy, aviation and health (GE) revealed the need for Iraq to enhance its capabilities in producing electric energy.

Rashid Al-Janabi, CEO of General Electric in Iraq, told the Iraqi National News Agency / NINA /: Iraq is facing at the current stage a major challenge in energy resources, but there are many qualified solutions to address this shortage, and GE has innovative and reliable technologies to contribute to filling The gap within the Iraqi energy sector and that these solutions support the plan drawn up by the Iraqi government to improve the electricity situation in the country.

He explained that what is currently needed by Iraq is located within the multiple paths hubs, including: adding energy to the national grid through the development and construction of new plants, and improve operations and performance of the current terminals used for power generation, enhance the performance and stability of the electricity network national. "

He noted that he can convert power plants Which operates today on the simple cycle to the combined cycle to enhance its production capacity by up to 50% without the need to use additional fuel or increase its emissions, and an example of this is the Basmajah station, which operates in combined cycle with General Electric units, and it is the largest and most efficient power station today in Iraq, pointing to That Iraq can benefit from natural gas imports and converting it to fuel for the production of electricity by building giant stations and using dozens of HA-type gas turbines manufactured by General Electric, which are the most efficient in the world to meet the future energy need in Iraq.

butterfly   Al-Janabi explained that the maintenance and maintenance of what is produced in Iraq today, and the repair and service operations in electric power generation stations throughout Iraq, can bear fruit in maintaining the supply of more than 8 thousand megawatts of electrical energy, to meet the peak demand during the summer season.

On strengthening the electric power transmission network in Iraq, Al-Janabi said: It is possible to strengthen the Iraqi power transmission network by building secondary stations that contribute to opening bottlenecks, especially in densely populated areas, in addition to transferring the produced energy from the stations to cities and governorates, and we are also working to connect The network, with the Kingdom of Jordan, in a step that will contribute significantly to removing the pressure placed on the network and providing electric power according to the highest levels of reliability.

He stressed that GE Company is fully prepared to support Iraq in providing the necessary funding to build strategic projects to cover its need of electrical energy resources, and our financing capacity depends on our global expertise and on our solid relations with export insurance agencies in several countries around the world, as well as with major institutions. Finance, as we have already, in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Finance, secured financing for several important projects in the energy sector, with a value of more than two billion US dollars.

butterfly   He added that among the immediate solutions that can be quickly utilized is the installation of TM2500 mobile units in the oil fields to benefit from the gas associated with the production of electric power and for a period not exceeding several months to produce hundreds of megawatts that the national network needs greatly and ending the phenomenon of burning associated gas, which affects our environment in Iraq largely.

And on the possibility of establishing installed stations in different regions of Iraq, Al-Janabi said: The HA technology developed by General Electric is the largest and fastest growing gas turbine in the world, and contributed to achieving two world records in terms of energy generation efficiency.

Greater energy, without the need for extra fuel. An important example of these giant H type turbines is in the United Arab Emirates, where GE is building the Hamriyah plant and installing three H type turbines to produce 1,800 mikaws.

Regarding the impact of the Corona pandemic on the company's work in some stations and projects completed during the past six months, Al-Janabi explained that General Electric started a few months ago to form a working team in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity and the concerned departments to facilitate work even in times of curfew, pointing to the two projects of Samawah and Dhi Qar stations completed from Before the company, work continued despite the challenges, especially the Corona epidemic, as the highest health standards were taken to ensure the safety of employees and partners, and the first phase of the Samawah power plant with a capacity of 500 megawatts and the Dhi Qar power station with a capacity of 500 megawatts were completed and delivered to the Ministry of Electricity.

butterfly   He pointed out that the company's staff have reached the final steps to complete the Zubair station, which will add 700 megawatts of electric power, in addition to that work is still underway on expanding Basmajah power station in Baghdad to introduce an additional 1,500 megawatts to reach the largest 4,500 megawatts in Iraq.

Al-Janabi stressed that the company is also working on supporting the national grid for electricity transmission to open bottlenecks and deliver the produced electricity to Iraqi cities and governorates, as GE has completed four transfer stations, two of them in Baghdad and two in Karbala.

Regarding the possibility of establishing electrical and secondary stations in the liberated areas such as Mosul, Anbar and Salah al-Din, Al-Janabi said: Work is underway to build secondary stations in Mosul and Salah al-Din to support the stability of the network in these areas after it was damaged, noting that GE was one of the first companies to enter the liberated areas.

He added that this agreement comes within what has been allocated by the Kingdom's government to support the reconstruction and development in Iraq, which exceeds the sum of (1.5) billion US dollars, as it is consistent with the objectives of the fund to diversify sources of national income and increase the volume of non-oil exports of goods and services of Saudi origin.

butterfly  Salam Al-Shammari: We will stand against the government's appeal to the budget clause for the agricultural sector

Sunday 30, May 2021 14:02...........The head of the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture, Water and Marshlands, Salam Al-Shammari, affirmed that the committee stands against the government's appeal to the budgetary provision for the agricultural sector.

Al-Shammari said in a press release: "Agricultural production has witnessed a remarkable increase during the last period, especially in strategic crops (wheat, barley and rice), which require support in order to reach higher levels of production.

He added, "The government's appeal to the clause increasing the price of buying strategic crops from farmers in the budget does not serve the agricultural reality, and it must withdraw this appeal, which will affect the farmers 'and farmers' appetite to continue cultivating these crops."

He explained: "The agricultural sector is in dire and continuous need for government support, especially in light of these conditions in which the country is going through, and the failure to take decisions that harm this sector, present and in the future."

The Parliamentary Finance Committee had expressed its surprise at the government's rejection of the House of Representatives decision to increase the prices of buying wheat, barley and rice crops from farmers, as the Finance Committee included this paragraph in the budget.

Dakhil said in a statement, "How will the government justify how six ISIS families infiltrated the Iraqi-Syrian borders in broad daylight and in the presence of such numerous Security Forces and how will it give us their names and the names of their fathers and their ties to any direction that they have taken, knowing that of the hundreds family being transferred to al-Jadaa camp only 94 made it to their final destination."

She added, "Can the government guarantee to us that such an instance will not reoccur and that ISIS militants inside Iraq will not be able to communicate with their families who have made it safe, sound and dignified to al-Jadaa camp?", revealing that this incident resulted in around 6000 individuals belonging to ISIS and still active in the terrorist organization roaming freely in Iraq.

The Committee said in a statement, "We are very surprised by the appeal submitted by the government against some items of the budget law, which would deprive some oil producing governorates of their share of petrodollars, after the financial committee had added an item to protect them."

It added, "We are surprised by the government's refusal of the Parliamentary decision to increase the purchase prices of wheat, barley and milkweed crops from farmers, as this item was added in a bid to support farmers and promote the agricultural sector. "

On May 17th, the General Secretariat of the Iraqi Council of Ministers officially announced its appeal against some of the budget items, and requested that the federal government issues an order against them.

In early February, the Iraqi Parliament had approved the country's financial budget for the year 2021, with a total expenditure of 129 trillion dinars, and a deficit of 28 trillion dinars.

Revenues from exporting crude oil had also been calculated on the basis of an average price of $ 45 a barrel, and an export rate of 3.250 million barrels per day.

butterfly   2021-05-30 05:20  Shafaq News / Nouri al-Maliki, the leader of the State of Law Coalition, accused on Sunday some parties he did not name of trying to drag al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces-PMF) into clashes with the Armed Forces following the unrest caused by the arrest of the Operations commander of the PMF in al-Anbar, Qassem Musleh.

Al-Maliki tweeted today, "Today, some attempted, and failed, to drag the PMF into clashes with the Armed Forces because these heroic fighters have dedicated their blood to the liberation of the land and its people, according to the law."

He added, "Our Armed Forces should beware of stirrers of sedition and intrigue, and remain a unified front with the PMF, just as they have always been on the battlefield."

Tensions mounted in Iraq's capital after the arrest of PMF's Operations commander in al-Anbar on terrorism charges, prompting a dangerous showdown by the detainee's paramilitary supporters and the Iraqi government.

The confrontation began on Wednesday after Iraqi security forces arrested at dawn Qassim Mahmoud Musleh pursuant to a judicial investigation and arrest warrant over terrorism charges, Iraq's military said in a statement. The statement said he was being questioned by a joint investigative committee.

Tensions reached a fever pitch when Iraqi security forces and the elite Counter-Terrorism Service were deployed to protect the government and diplomatic missions, sparking fears of violence. Some armed PMF factions gathered around the Green Zone's entrance gates.

The presence of the PMF inside the seat of Iraq's government was considered by some senior Iraqi government officials as a way to pressure al-Kadhimi to release Musleh.

butterfly   The prime minister described the show of force as “a serious violation of the Iraqi constitution and the laws in force," adding in a statement, “we have directed an immediate investigation into these movements.”

Al-Kadhimi later held a meeting with senior Shiite political leaders who hold away over the PMF. The premier also ordered the formation of an investigative committee comprised of intelligence from both defense and interior ministries and the PMF security and National Security.

butterfly  2021-05-30 03:38   Shafaq News / Iraq ranked sixth as the happiest country in the Middle East during 2021, according to the Global Finance magazine.

As by the report, people living in Middle Eastern countries tend to be either very happy or very unhappy.

The 2021 World Happiness Report paints a picture of extremes in the Middle East region: on one hand, some very rich and quite content nations, and on the other, some nations so unhappy that they are either buried at the bottom of the ranking (Yemen) or entirely excluded (Syria, for which no evaluation is provided), according to the report.

"War is probably the single worst ingredient for human happiness and the report has pointed out countless times over the years that wealth in and of itself doesn’t do the trick either. Along with income, social support in times of need, healthy life expectancy, absence of corruption in government, freedom to make life choices and generosity towards others are the other key variables that the researchers of the Sustainable Development Solutions Network of the United Nations use in their report to assess life satisfaction", it pointed out.

However, a balance of all these factors provides a better shot at overall happiness than only a few good ones to the detriment of the others and it is that balance that many Middle Eastern nations lack, as by the report.

butterfly   Why is it important to celebrate Memorial Day?

Memorial Day commemorates the men and women who died while in the military service of their country, particularly those who died in battle or as a result of wounds sustained in battle. In other words, the purpose of Memorial Day is to memorialize the veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

butterfly   What is the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day?

Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday in May, honors the men and women who died while serving in the military. ... Veterans Day, observed every November 11, recognizes all who have served in the Armed Forces.

butterfly   What Memorial Day means to a veteran?

Memorial Day is, as the name implies, a time to pay respect and honor those who have died either while serving their country, as a result of military service, or after they have finished serving as a retired or separated veteran.

butterfly   Is Memorial Day for living veterans?

Memorial Day is also a celebration of military veterans, but the mood is more somber. The occasion is reserved for those who died while serving their country.

Here are some things you may not have known about the county's Memorial Day holiday

butterfly  https://www.enterprisepub.com/stories/honor-the-true-meaning-of-memorial-day,40936  Honor the true meaning of Memorial Day ........... Memorial Day is a time to pause, remember, reflect and honor the fallen.

What it isn't is a day to thank a veteran, and many veterans will say as much.

Memorial Day, celebrated the last Monday in May, was set aside to pay tribute to those who died serving in the military.

“Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers,” according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website. “Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30. It is believed that date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country.”

By the end of the 19th century, Memorial Day ceremonies were being held across the country.

After World War I, the day was expanded to honor those who have died in all American wars. In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a national holiday by Congress and placed on the last Monday in May.

Veterans Day, also a federal holiday, is on Nov. 11 and is designated as a day to honor all who have served in the military.

Veterans Day began as Armistice Day to honor the end of World War I, which took place Nov. 11, 1918.

Following both World War II and the Korean War — and at the urging of veterans service organizations — Congress approved legislation on June 1, 1954, to rename the holiday Veterans Day.

It is important to honor all who have served our country. They've made sacrifices and put others above themselves to make sure our freedoms remain.

But Monday is for those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Veterans organizations across Washington County are hosting ceremonies to recognize these brave souls.

butterfly   This Memorial Day, take the time to to honor the men and women who have died in action.

And the actual date for holding the legislative elections in Iraq is April 2022, but as a result of mass popular protests that began in 2019 and overthrew the government of Adel Abdul-Mahdi, Mustafa Al-Kazemi’s government first pledged to hold elections in June of this year 2021, before a new date was agreed upon on the tenth of October of The same year, following a “proposal from the Electoral Commission.”

In this regard, an informed source told Shafak News Agency, “There are serious discussions being held between different political parties, to discuss postponing the elections, and moving them to their scheduled date in April 2022.”

And he indicated that those discussions also included activating the topic of dismissing Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, provided that the position goes to the new Azm alliance led by Khamis al-Khanjar.

butterfly  Marathon jumps for the dollar matched by government impotence and popular outrage

2021-05-29 | 03:55   Marathon jumps for the dollar matched by government impotence and popular outrageReport: Alsumaria News

The rise in the exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar to about 150 thousand dinars for the 100 dollar bill has sparked a wave of popular and political anger and dissatisfaction, with many calls for the government to address this matter as a result of its negative impact on the citizen, at a time when a parliamentarian stressed the importance of creating The government is a mechanism to reduce the damage to the poor and low-income classes as a result of the high exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar, another indicated that the current increase in the exchange rate during these days had no justification, while an economic researcher called on the government to restore the prestige of the Iraqi dinar.

The ball is in the court of the government and the Central Bank, a Member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Muhammad al-Shabki, confirmed that the government andMinistry of Finance The Central Bank is the parties concerned with dealing with the causes of the high exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar.

Al-Shabaki said in an interview with Alsumaria News, “Changing the exchange rate of the dollar is not one of the tasks of the House of Representatives or the Parliamentary Finance Committee, but we are within the follow-ups of market conditions, especially after the end of the blessed month of Ramadan, as prices rose at that time, but we expected that those prices would decrease and inflation would decrease.” The markets will stabilize after the end of the holy month, “indicating that” what happened is the opposite, as the current days have witnessed a remarkable rise in the exchange rate without any justification for this rise. ”

butterfly   “The current situation needs a position or a decision from the government and the central bank,” al-Shibki addedMinistry of FinanceTo address this rise, considering that it is a government decision previously issued by it to raise the price, and it is concerned with dealing with its results. ” For his part, a member of Parliament confirmed

Mechanisms to reduce harm to the poor classes  Sarout said in an interview with Alsumaria News, “The high exchange rates of the dollar have a negative impact on the citizen and the daily standard of living for all segments of society, considering that this rise greatly reduced the purchasing power of the Iraqi dinar,” indicating that “the employee and the rest of the society’s segments of farmers and markets have all been exposed.” To great harm to this confusion in decisions, especially the poor classes that were victims of this rise. ”

Abbas SaroutThe importance of finding a mechanism for the government to reduce harm to the poor and low-income classes as a result of the high exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar. Economic researcher

Sarout added, “The government was supposed to find a mechanism to reduce harm to the poor classes and those with limited income, either by increasing the ration card items or disbursing sums of money through the ration card, or other measures that ensure a decent living for those classes,” pointing out that ” The government is concerned with finding mechanisms to balance the rise in the price of the dollar on the market and the citizen’s living condition.

butterfly   He pointed out that “there is a scheduled interrogation during the coming days of the Minister of Finance inside the dome of Parliament, and the file of raising the dollar exchange rate may be among the files that will be raised among the questions due to its great importance,” stressing that “the next stage will have many proposals regarding the exchange rate in particular.” We are on the verge of electoral campaigns, and this file is considered one of the important files. ”

Restore the prestige of the Iraqi dinar

Diaa Al-SharifiHe called on the government to put in place real solutions to the problem of the exchange rate and work to restore the prestige of the Iraqi dinar, and to go to build a correct and not a fictitious economy.

Al-Sharifi said in an interview with Alsumaria News, “The frightening rise in the exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar to nearly 150 thousand dinars per hundred dollars is an issue that alerted us of its risks from the first moment in which it was talked about raising the exchange rate to 145 thousand dinars, and within the current data.

It may reach higher levels and may reach 160,000 dinars, “indicating that” the beneficiaries of this situation are some parties that have private banks that have begun to raise the price through which they influence and dominate financial decisions, whether in the central bank or other economic chapters. ” .

butterfly   Al-Sharifi added, “The citizen, especially the middle classes and those with limited income, is the first victim, as he cannot provide for the daily needs of living,” pointing out that “this matter brings us back to the government’s appeal to Article 20 of the budget that was dropped by Parliament and the government has challenged it in the Federal Court related to it.”

By imposing a tax and deduction on the salaries of employees, which means that there are two strikes for the employee, which means that liquidity will decrease in the market, meaning a severe economic crisis, and the beneficiaries of it are parties that are on the fingers of one hand and may not exceed the two parties only, which are the decision makers and those steps.

He stressed, “The importance for the government to have a real and serious vision of the extent of the challenge and its risks to the Iraqi people, and to work to follow up the markets, not to prejudice the salaries of employees, to control the currency exchange market and to prevent it from getting out of control as is happening now, and for this file to be kept out of political conflicts with the near elections in order to Do not be used for electoral purposes, considering that this issue is political rather than economic,

“explaining that” the rise in global oil prices, on its part, may encourage the government and the Central Bank to reconsider the current exchange rate, and work to restore the prestige of the Iraqi dinar because this step It means establishing a healthy economy and not a fictitious economy as some promote it. ”   alsumaria.tv

2021-05-28 | 03:45  A parliamentary proposal to return the looted and smuggled amounts in corruption dealsAlsumaria news/Baghdad:

A member of the Parliamentary Committee on Economy and Investment, Falah Al-Khafaji, suggested today, Friday, a mechanism through which half of the looted and smuggled money can be recovered if it is applied correctly and accurately.

Al-Khafaji said in an interview with Alsumaria News, “The actual elimination of corruption or its reduction and the return of the looted and smuggled funds need a real will and deliberate plans to address this file,” noting that “it is possible that the funds of every official in the Iraqi state will be followed up to his relatives of the fourth degree since During his tenure in office, and following up on their situation, did their wealth double and did they have large bank assets and properties?

Al-Khafaji added, “The second step is through activating the Illicit Gain Law, and from where did you get this, for those who have reached the point of obscene wealth and have become owners of banks, palaces and countless money, and follow-up from where they got that money, is it before 2003 or after?”

This history and how to obtain it in detail,” he said, noting that “some people did not own anything and lived a very simple life, then today they have become owners of factories, huge projects and very large assets, and we must know where they got that money.”

He pointed out that “in the event we want to dry up the sources of corruption, or at least reduce them, then this mechanism should be proceeded as a first step, and then it is possible, in the case of correct and accurate application, to return up to half of the smuggled and looted sums in corruption deals,” stressing that “the matter needs seriousness and a strong prime minister.” He is brave and firm to fight corruption and not compliment under any pressure.”

butterfly  The World Bank announces important details in its report on Iraq

Posted, 05/28/2021 21:15:10   The World Bank announces important details in its report on IraqA senior expert at the World Bank, Wael Mansour, revealed, on Thursday, important details in his report on Iraq.

Mansour said in a televised interview, “Negative growth of the national product reached 10%, which is one of the worst growth that we see after 2003, and we attribute it to the drop in the oil price, the OPEC Plus agreement, which reduced oil production, and the Corona pandemic that hits many sectors, including services, religious tourism, and others.” .

He pointed out, “a sharp decline in financial resources, and the government has taken harsh measures, including the reduction of all spending outside wages and salaries, and we have seen a sharp decline in public investment and social benefits and all programs that can support growth and reduce poverty and a sharp decrease in it.”

Mansour stressed, “The World Bank is very interested in the factor of growth and sustainable growth, the need for diversification and job creation outside the oil sector, and a basic necessity for women’s participation in the labor market, given that Iraq is among the lowest in the world in this aspect.”

And he indicated that “if Iraq is able to achieve policies and involve women in the labor market 2.

butterfly   2.5 billion dollars as a result of burning gas associated with the extraction of oil and losses in agriculture and water.”

Mansour continued, “The solutions to Iraq’s problems have become a large structure that accumulates from one government to another, and the solutions are not easy and not immediate, and we are talking about problems in the public sector, electricity and infrastructure, and a very small banking sector that does not exist. And it is not supportive of the public sectors.”

And he noted, “We are aware of the importance of the current government’s white paper, which diagnoses with such accuracy and danger, and rings an alarm bell for the Iraqi economic situation and says that the solution is not immediate, and there must be short-term measures, and all reforms require a pause and a political decision in the first place.”

Mansour concluded, “Not diving into these reforms means recurring problems from one government to another with the low exchange rate of the dollar against the Iraqi dinar,” adding, “We do not set conditions on Iraq, but rather offer advice to increase imports, and with the improvement of the oil price, it is a good look, but it hides 3 risks.”

The first is the political and security risk that overthrows all economic recovery and the risk of fluctuations in the oil price and may drop to 50 or 40 dollars per barrel. The other danger is the absence of reform and the failure to implement the white paper, which means a loss of 11 billion dollars for Iraq.

The expert at the World Bank stressed that “reforms affect salaries, electricity, social protection networks and other government-supported aspects,” noting that “the e-government puts Iraq in the back ranks in terms of corruption and management efficiency.”   alforatnews.com
