One of the most iconic cartoons of all time is “Popeye the Sailor,” and believe it or not, there is a day that has been created to honor the fictional character.
That day is today, but before any fans of the cartoon delve into celebrating Popeye The Sailor Man Day, they might not know how spinach consumption became the source of Popeye’s strength and a signature staple of the cartoon.

Popeye was created by Elzie Crisler (E.C) Segar and made his first appearance in the comic strip "Thimble Theatre" on January 17, 1929. Originally created as a minor character, Popeye quickly became a super star. By 1938, the comic changed its name to “Popeye,” creating one of the most iconic cultural comic strips of all time.

About the house: "Goldstein's house, known as Sheats Goldstein Residence, has been featured in Architectural Digest, DOLCE magazine, The New York Times, Robb Report, and Town & Country.
.The house was designed in 1963 by John Lautner, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Goldstein purchased the property in the 1970s from previous owners who did not keep the house in good condition.
Goldstein commissioned Lautner to make changes and improvements to the house. Below the main residence is an installation by light artist James Turrell known as "Skyspace" or "Sky Box".

Their light flaps’ sound reach your ears like whispers, messages that need deciphering from another continent, brought by butterfly migration to the El Rosario sanctuary.
They congregate on trees like sacred fir trees and oyamel, by the millions, so the branches they perch on become plaid orange and black throughout, weighed and pointing to the ground. These butterflies don’t just roost, but pollinate flowers, which are usually just as colorful as they are. Sometimes they gather around and wither.

During autumn,the Monarch Butterfly Biosphere Reserve gets flooded with millions of butterflies that have journeyed through continents, welcomed, too, by people who visit the sanctuary to witness their spectacle. From Canada, eastern US, and such, they roost through winter before returning north. It is an extremely long journey for these insects, a goal for butterfly generations, in fact.
The following year, sometimes returning to the same trees, are their great great grandchildren. Monarch Watch researchers give out stickers to volunteers and interested citizens to paste them on the discal cell of these butterflies’ wings. It’s a project they’re working on in the University of Kansas. These stickers indicate the email address, ID code, and the person’s contact details. Once found, if ever, the tags should be able to give researchers information regarding their flight journey and the places they’ve traveled to.

About the house: "Goldstein's house, known as Sheats Goldstein Residence, has been featured in Architectural Digest, DOLCE magazine, The New York Times, Robb Report, and Town & Country.
.The house was designed in 1963 by John Lautner, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Goldstein purchased the property in the 1970s from previous owners who did not keep the house in good condition.
Goldstein commissioned Lautner to make changes and improvements to the house. Below the main residence is an installation by light artist James Turrell known as "Skyspace" or "Sky Box".

Popeye was created by Elzie Crisler (E.C) Segar and made his first appearance in the comic strip "Thimble Theatre" on January 17, 1929. Originally created as a minor character, Popeye quickly became a super star. By 1938, the comic changed its name to “Popeye,” creating one of the most iconic cultural comic strips of all time.

This week we toured one of the most iconic houses in the World also known as The Sheats Goldstein Residence! The house was so special that we had to go out of our way in telling the story of this architectural masterpiece.
About the house: "Goldstein's house, known as Sheats Goldstein Residence, has been featured in Architectural Digest, DOLCE magazine, The New York Times, Robb Report, and Town & Country.
.The house was designed in 1963 by John Lautner, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Goldstein purchased the property in the 1970s from previous owners who did not keep the house in good condition.
Goldstein commissioned Lautner to make changes and improvements to the house. Below the main residence is an installation by light artist James Turrell known as "Skyspace" or "Sky Box".

About the house: "Goldstein's house, known as Sheats Goldstein Residence, has been featured in Architectural Digest, DOLCE magazine, The New York Times, Robb Report, and Town & Country.
.The house was designed in 1963 by John Lautner, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Goldstein purchased the property in the 1970s from previous owners who did not keep the house in good condition.
Goldstein commissioned Lautner to make changes and improvements to the house. Below the main residence is an installation by light artist James Turrell known as "Skyspace" or "Sky Box".

This camera is located near a natural spring along Grasslands National Park's Ecotour road in the west block near Val Marie, Saskatchewan. Watch as bison and other animals visit the hole for a refreshing drink (or dip!).
Grasslands National Park is one of the few remaining natural grasslands in North America, a testament to the prairies as they existed for millennia before they were turned under by the settler's plough.
Here visitors really can watch the buffalo roam, the deer and the antelope play. The park has plains bison, swift fox and is home to Canada's only black-tailed prairie dog colonies, a keystone prairie species. Viewers can wander through a black-tailed prairie dog colony, where these cute creatures, known for their distinctive barks and yips, groom, frolic and carry on with their business, while often providing food for predators such as coyotes, badgers and various birds of prey.

Popeye is the seeming underdog with bulging forearms, a mean uppercut, and a love of canned spinach. He is a defender of the weak and protector of those he loves. As the embodiment of strength and fitness, Popeye inspires us all to work hard, care for others, be persistent, and stay strong to the finish. Of course, all with the help of a hefty amount of spinach. In 2024, we are celebrating 95 years of this iconic figure, and the timeless inspiration Popeye has brought to billions of people.
Popeye was created by Elzie Crisler (E.C) Segar and made his first appearance in the comic strip "Thimble Theatre" on January 17, 1929. Originally created as a minor character, Popeye quickly became a super star. By 1938, the comic changed its name to “Popeye,” creating one of the most iconic cultural comic strips of all time.

This week we toured one of the most iconic houses in the World also known as The Sheats Goldstein Residence! The house was so special that we had to go out of our way in telling the story of this architectural masterpiece.
About the house: "Goldstein's house, known as Sheats Goldstein Residence, has been featured in Architectural Digest, DOLCE magazine, The New York Times, Robb Report, and Town & Country.
.The house was designed in 1963 by John Lautner, a student of Frank Lloyd Wright. Goldstein purchased the property in the 1970s from previous owners who did not keep the house in good condition.
Goldstein commissioned Lautner to make changes and improvements to the house. Below the main residence is an installation by light artist James Turrell known as "Skyspace" or "Sky Box".
