CharlieOK: We have seen this particular script of Days in the Lives of Iraq for the last 2-3 years. No govt.; now a govt.; No budget; now a budget; but wait - it wasn't implemented; but wait, the budget is in the EFSL. I hope the big boys are serious this time,
RVAlready: You who are discouraged by the progress of the budget need to remember this government just came into being, and they are developing a budget unlike anything done in recent history. I think they are making very swift progress on the draft budget.
KaseyKo1: Agreed. Also, I don't think the UN will allow them to procrastinate on this issue. Iraq was to have their budget by the end of the year - per UN orders.
RVAlready: Yes, I suspect the UN will come in and trash the place if the RV does not happen by Jan 1.
CharlieOK: What is rarely discussed is getting Baghdad and Kurdistan on the same page re the oil and gas law. I am one who believes this has to happen before any budget or anything is meaningful. I read an article a few days ago that said Kurdistan is waiting to go forward until they see the oil and gas law IMPLEMENTED in the 2023 budget. There is no agreement that means squat in Iraq.
RVAlready: Agreements are in place to cover oil and gas. That is as good as it will get.
CharlieOK: All that being said, I keep hoping that the school principal with the long ruler from the UN is over there busting heads. I find it hard to believe that at this late date, something has not been done to solve all of this.
RVALready: The UN will push for the RV, and maybe the budget. I think that is all they expect.
KaseyKo1: I think this article tish posted speaks volumes. "Parliamentary Finance hints at a “special” session to approve the 2023 budget."
