Tishwash:  Among them is Iraq... 5 Arab countries on the FATF grey list for money launderin

The Financial Action Task Force (FATF), the international body concerned with combating money laundering, announced the removal of Monaco, Bulgaria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Côte d'Ivoire from its grey list. Five Arab countries remain on the list.

Following a general meeting, the organization explained that these countries had completed the action plans they had pledged and would no longer be subject to intensive monitoring.

Monaco's removal comes two years after it was placed on the list of jurisdictions requiring enhanced monitoring.

The Paris-based FATF, which oversees the implementation of international standards for combating money laundering and terrorist financing in more than 200 countries, indicated that the principality had made significant progress in enhancing the effectiveness of its efforts in this area.

Monaco, with a population of fewer than 40,000, is an attractive destination for the wealthy and famous thanks to its tax system, which exempts income and wealth from taxes.

The FATF had urged the principality to facilitate the work of investigators and prosecutors, increase the seizure of suspicious assets, and cooperate more effectively in identifying and confiscating criminal assets held abroad.

After removing these countries, 18 countries and territories remain on the "grey list," including five Arab states: Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Yemen, and Lebanon.

The blacklist of high-risk countries currently includes Iran, Myanmar, and North Korea.  link
