After months of unreasonable rise in dollar prices in local Iraqi markets, which caused great exhaustion for families, especially those with limited incomes, the Iraqi dinar was able to break the rise of the dollar, which sometimes reached about 170 thousand for every 100 dollars.
In conjunction with the rise of the dollar, the prices of foodstuffs also rose significantly as they are linked to the dollar, given that most of them are imported and are therefore purchased through the dollar, which caused great discontent in the Iraqi street, which demanded that the government must find solutions to address this unjustified rise.
Yesterday, Sunday, the US Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, announced that her country is continuing to provide dollar services to Iraq.

The Iraqi Trade Bank decided to stop working on financial transfers, starting next Sunday
In a statement, a copy of which {Al-Furat News} received, the bank explained the reason for stopping work on financial transfers: “For purposes related to the annual inventory, it was decided to stop work on money transfers starting from Sunday, 12/24/2023,” noting that “the last date for receiving financial transfer requests will be on Thursday, 12/21/2023.
He added, "This service will resume work on Wednesday, 01/03/2024." LINK

A banking expert answers: Is it possible to ban dealing in the dollar?

Banking expert, Mahmoud Dagher, on Wednesday, ruled out the possibility of the Central Bank of Iraq preventing dealing in dollars in the country.
Dagher told Jarida , “The Central Bank cannot prevent dealing in the dollar, as there is nothing in the banking law or in the instructions of the Central Bank that supports this approach, so they have no right, and dealing in the dollar will continue as dealing with the dinar.”
He stressed that “there are huge bank accounts for depositors in dollars, so it is unlikely to prevent dealing with it,” stressing the necessity of “arranging the status of the dinar instead.” LINK

Parliamentary Finance: Spending only 20% of the current year’s budget

The Parliamentary Finance Committee revealed that the government has spent only 20% of the current year’s budget, and expected to release the rest of the budget on December 20, indicating that the government’s move towards currencies other than the dollar will reduce the pressure on demand for it and thus reduce its prices. (IF THE EXCHANGE RATE DOES NOT GIVE VALUE TO THE DINAR THEN THE GOI/CBI WILL SUFFOCATE EVERYTHING IN IRAQ!!! -F26 )
Committee member, Jamal Kujar, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: The government has spent only 20% of the current year’s budget, and it is assumed that after December 20, a good portion of the budget will be spent for a period of five days until the accounts are closed, noting that with the beginning of New Year Next year's budget schedules are sent. Today, Saturday, the Central Bank of Iraq refuted the alleged accusations of the disappearance of large amounts of Iraqi currency and their smuggling to some neighboring countries, indicating that the quantities of Iraqi currency are printed according to the needs of the Iraqi economy and within strict standards.
The Central Bank noted that the issuance of Emaar bonds (the first issue), which were sold in full, was according to the needs of the Ministry of Finance and what was stipulated in the General Budget Law.
