Clare:  Iraq plans to “neglect the US dollar” and Parliament proposes “diversifying foreign currency baskets”

The House of Representatives Finance Committee said today, Monday (November 13, 2023), that there is a necessary and important need to diversify the basket of foreign currencies in Iraq and not rely on the US dollar in commercial transactions.

Committee member Moin Al-Kazemi told “Baghdad Today” that “the basket of foreign currencies in Iraq must be diversified and not relied on the dollar in commercial transactions, whether external or even internal, as this reduces American dominance over the Iraqi economy.”

Clare:  The Ministry of Interior is in the process of opening sites for the national card and electronic passport in countries around the world

The Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, confirmed on Wednesday that the ministry is working to open new sites for the national card and the electronic passport in a number of countries around the world.

Al-Shammari’s media office stated in a statement received by Al-Eqtisad News, “Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, participated in the seventh ambassadors’ conference, which included a dialogue seminar on (the consular services session), where discussion and dialogue took place regarding the joint work strategy between the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs.” .

Clare:  As of the beginning of next month, Kurdistan will adopt the Iraqi dinar in crossings and airport transactions

The Kurdistan Regional Government decided, today, Tuesday, to start dealing in the Iraqi dinar at all border crossings and airports, starting from the beginning of next month.

The Director General of Customs in the Kurdistan Region, Samal Abdul Rahman, said, “In accordance with a decision issued by the Kurdistan Regional Government, all transactions at border crossings and airports will be in Iraqi dinars, starting from the beginning of next month.”

Abdul Rahman added that the regional government had previously used the dinar instead of the dollar at some crossings with neighboring countries, adding that there are still some crossings that will be converted to the dinar tomorrow.

Clare:   Washington directs the families of its diplomats and non-essential employees to leave Iraq and not to use Baghdad Airport

The US State Department directed, on Sunday, the departure of the families of its diplomats and non-essential employees from Iraq, warning of “kidnappings.”

In a statement, the US State Department called on its citizens "not to travel to Iraq due to terrorism, kidnapping, armed conflict, civil unrest, and the limited ability of the Iraqi mission to provide support to American citizens."

The American forces at the Harir and Ain al-Asad bases in Erbil and Anbar were subjected to more than one attack by drones, according to what the armed factions announced.
