CandyKisses: Gold prices rise in global markets

Gold rose on the back of lower Treasury yields, but a stronger dollar, the expectation of interest rate hikes and optimism about the U.S. debt ceiling deal are making the yellow metal heading for its first monthly decline in three months.
Spot gold prices rose 8830,0 percent to $4,1966.89 an ounce by 1818 GMT, and gold has fallen 1.1 percent so far this month. U.S. gold futures rose 0.3 percent to $1982,10.<> at settlement.
Gold prices fell after approaching record highs hit in early May, partly affected by expectations that the U.S. central bank will raise interest rates next month.
Higher interest rates would weaken the appeal of non-yielding gold.
Among other precious metals, silver rose 1.5 percent to $23.56 an ounce, platinum fell 1.6 percent to $998.31, while palladium fell 2.5 percent to $1366,29.<>. All of these metals are heading for a monthly decline

We are told over and over and over again that the consumer is in great shape. They're absorbing all of these price increases like nobody's business and they keep shopping.
And, of course, you know, we've had wage gains and people are continuing to ask for more.
