Tishwash: Government promises have not been fulfilled... The dollar is moving away from the official exchange rate in Iraq.
The exchange rate of the US dollar rose slightly on Thursday in the main markets of the capital, Baghdad, while it remained stable in its local markets at the close.
The dollar exchange rate in the Al-Kifah and Al-Harithiya exchanges in Baghdad was recorded at 168,300 Iraqi dinars per 100 dollars, while this morning it was recorded at 168,200 dinars per 100 dollars.
The dollar exchange rate remained stable in local markets in Baghdad, with the selling price at 168,750 dinars per 100 dollars and the buying price at 167,750 dinars per 100 dollars.
Iraqi markets are witnessing a rise in the prices of food and consumer goods, following the decision of the Central Bank of Iraq to reduce the value of the dinar against the dollar from 1320 to 1520 dinars, by a percentage of about 15.2%, starting from the seventh of October, which doubles the living burdens on citizens, amidst the exploitation of the decision by some merchants to impose unjustified increases on goods.
Deputy Prime Minister Mohammed Tamim predicted earlier this week that the dollar exchange rate in the parallel market would decrease and approach the official rate, confirming that Iraq had received new cash payments based on the strength of the relationship with America. He explained that the cash supply had increased to $3 billion in just two months, noting that the first batch arrived last Thursday, with a second batch expected at the beginning of November, amounting to more than $500 million per batch. This will supply the local market with an injection from the government and under the supervision of the Central Bank. link
