Animals Building Skills
Homes have many uses. They can prove a bolthole to escape predators, a safe nursery in which to raise young, a food store and a shelter from bad weather.
Animals of many shapes and sizes build their own homes. Perhaps the biggest construction projects are those undertaken by ants. Hundreds of thousands work together to construct their home.
Small mammals are expert diggers. Meerkats and hamsters both excavate elaborate tunnels where they can stay out of harm's way and raise their young, though the hamster likes to work alone while the meerkats prefer to have the company of an entire clan.
When it comes to making a nursery, it’s birds who steal the show. In just a few days they can construct a basket of twigs - a nest that can support their growing family and keep them out of harm's way.
There is one other good builder in the animal kingdom - us. Did we learn our skills from the animal home builders?

Amazing Woven Bamboo House -Traditional Green Building
Nomad Architecture 2 years ago: They are one of the few groups we have studied where the builders are a specialist trade, and you can see that the skill, and strength required are high. There are only a handful of people who can still do this, as I recall three worked on this house. Around them, to try to keep the cost down, friends and relatives cut the poles, prepared the straw and the bamboo sheath used to cover the house. It is not always this way, as I said earlier, this was a community supported project. Often there will just be two builders who work on and off over a few weeks.
Bright Future 2 years ago: I am an architect and this is simply amazing.
James Kennedy 2 years ago: This was the best wildest building video I have ever seen. Wow. This gives me so many ideas. Ways of building I never thought of. Nomad Architecture thank you for your time in the production of this video. What a teaching aid. Again thank you so much for this gift, and it is a gift.

Note: Live video from the International Space Station includes internal views when the crew is on-duty and Earth views at other times. The video is accompanied by audio of conversations between the crew and Mission Control. This video is only available when the space station is in contact with the ground.
During "loss of signal" periods, viewers will see a blue screen. Since the station orbits the Earth once every 90 minutes, it experiences a sunrise or a sunset about every 45 minutes. When the station is in darkness, external camera video may appear black, but can sometimes provide spectacular views of lightning or city lights below.
