Butterfly   EU drops Iraq from List of High-Risk Countries for Money Laundering 11th January 2022 The European Union's Ambassador to Iraq has announced that Iraq has been removed from its list of countries deemed to carry a high risk of money laundering.

Following a meeting with Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi in Baghdad on Sunday, Ville Varjola tweeted:

"Bringing the good news today to HE Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi that Iraq has been taken off the list of countries at high risk of money laundering by the EU. Will pave the way for deepening financial cooperation and investment."

Al-Kadhimi responded:

"The decision of the EU to delist Iraq from the list of high risk countries on AML/CTF is a manifestation of our effective diplomatic efforts. We will continue working diligently to serve our national interests, and achieve Iraq's deserved status."

As of Monday evening there appears to be no official confirmation of the change on the EU's website.

Iraq was added to the EU's list of high-risk third countries in September 2016.

Following the UK's departure from the EU, it announced its own list of high risk countries in April 2021, which did not include Iraq.

In July, Prime Minister Al-Kadhimi asked the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, to remove Iraq from the list.

Butterfly   NEW: The U.S. Mint announced today it has begun rolling out the Maya Angelou Quarter, making her the first Black woman ever to appear on the coin.

butterfly   Zig I just went to several banks trying to get that new quarter, not one of them had a clue what I was talking about. Banks....lordy they need to keep up with what is going on out there in the world.

Sheila   Dave Maybe. Retired banker friend does not have a lot, yet they are connected to some current bankers with massive holdings. They are friends from way back.

Sheila   Zig I do it all the time. Guessing it's my respect for Freedom of Speech thingy. And if I am put off by what they write, I can choose to leave and come back another time. Best not to engage in pig fight. You all get dirty and covered in mud, but that pig really enjoys it. LOL

sheila   Prefer to focus on successes, value added, positives. Already spent too much time in my life being negative and looking at the past, defining moments - shoulda, coulda, woulda. LOL

Sheila   Zig Talked with him couple of weeks ago. We agree and disagree on some issues. Believe he has good heart and soul. Many ambitions for his path post event.
