The grand building is still riddled with bullet marks, gaping holes and the walls are charred and blackened – a reminder of the gruelling ground battle to liberate the city from ISIS in 2017. Workers clearing the site removed sacks of banknotes rolled up in black plastic bags from a hole in the floor, an AFP correspondent said.

"After starting to fix the building and removing rubble, we were able to access the safes," said Hussein Al Zaidi, chief of the Mosul branch of the Iraqi central bank.

The banknotes were badly damaged after "the coffers were engulfed in groundwater due to an air strike" during the offensive to take Mosul from the militants.

"We discovered banknotes in bags, small bills," he said. So far, they have retrieved 175 bags, he said, without specifying the total value.

When ISIS militants overran Mosul in the summer of 2014, they seized several hundred million dollars, as well as gold bars from the Mosul branch of Iraq's central bank.

The country's second city, Mosul was the militant’s Iraqi "capital" of their self-proclaimed "caliphate".

butterfly   The Iraqi army and a US-led coalition retook the city in 2017 after intense bombardment and fighting that left it in ruins.   Iraq declared victory over the extremists later that year.

Earlier this month, Iraq said it had captured ISIS's suspected finance chief, Sami Jasim Al Jaburi, in an operation in Turkey.   Updated: October 21st 2021, 1:12 AM

2021.10.23 - 14:39   The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, praised, on Saturday, the statement of the Security Council on the results of the elections, while he considered that dragging the country into chaos and destabilizing civil peace by the "presumed fraud" is shameful.

On the other hand, the democratic process .

He added that "dragging the country into chaos and destabilizing civil peace due to their lack of conviction in their electoral results is a shameful matter that complicates the political scene and the security situation, but rather gives a negative perception of them, and this should not be increased and repeated."

He continued, "Therefore, it should not be pressured on the Independent Electoral Commission or the work of the judiciary and the Federal Court or interfering with its work... Rather, it is necessary to create a calm atmosphere for the Commission to complete its procedures regarding appeals or the like."

He stressed that "so that everyone knows that being satisfied with the electronic results will do security and stability to Iraq and its people, and it is qualified for that." https://nasnews.com/view.php?cat=72452

UNEEK   Perception Oct 6, 2021 by Craig Shapiro

There are so many factors that can hold a person back in this life. Many are circumstantial – a lack of connections, money, education, a stable home environment. These conditions are outside of our control, especially when we’re growing up. But one of the biggest setbacks a person can face is one that can be practiced: your own perception of what you’re capable of.

In my years of experience, I’ve found that the defining characteristic that sets the massively successful apart is simply the belief that they are capable of achieving what they want.

That’s it.

UNEEK   If I could give a piece of advice to anyone starting out, in any field really, it would be to allow your imagination to expand to the belief that you are capable of achieving great things. And beyond capability, that you’re worthy.

It’s a hard line to toe, because there’s nothing more unattractive than overconfidence, especially when it’s unearned. But that’s not what I’m talking about here.

It’s not hubris – it’s chutzpah. It’s that scrappy mentality. That way of thinking that says, “well, if someone’s gonna do it, why shouldn’t it be me?” It’s that sense of purpose, of knowing that you can do more than what you’re already doing.

UNEEK   When I was getting started I used to scale back before I’d even begun. I’d make a plan, then look it over, afraid that I’d overdone it.

Now, I challenge myself to do the opposite. I make a plan and then I ask myself:

“Are you thinking big enough?”
