Economie   08:58 - 05-31-2022  Oil prices rose, today, Tuesday, to their highest level in two months, after the European Union decided to ban 90% of Russian oil as part of a meeting related to the sixth package of sanctions against Moscow over the war on Ukraine.

Brent crude futures rose more than a dollar to $123 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures jumped a dollar to $116.10 a barrel, continuing strong gains made last week.

The ban on Russian oil will lead to a shortage in the crude oil market, which is already suffering from supply pressures amid increased demand for gasoline, diesel and jet fuel ahead of the peak summer demand season in the United States and Europe.   https://kirkuktv.net/AR/Details/6419

Iraq.. Parliamentary Committee Approves Two Things To Pay Off Iranian Debt

Posted On2022-06-01 By Sotaliraq   The “Electricity and Energy” committee in the Iraqi parliament revealed, on Tuesday, that there is an agreement within the committee on two matters regarding the payment of the Iranian side’s dues for the gas supplied to the country, amounting to 1.6 billion dollars.

Iraq.. Parliamentary committee approves two things to pay off Iranian debt   The National Iranian Gas Company had obligated Iraq to pay this amount, no later than the end of June, in return for continuing to supply gas to it according to the volume specified in the bilateral agreement between the two countries.

The deputy head of the committee, Dakhil Radi, said that “the agreement within the committee in this regard is either for Parliament to vote on the food security law, or to go to borrow from the Ministry of Finance to pay the Iranian dues.

Radi added, "The Parliamentary Electricity and Energy Committee held more than one meeting that dealt with the Ministry of Electricity's plan and the problems and obstacles it suffers from, and it will host the Minister of Electricity during the next two days, (Wednesday or Thursday) to discuss the matter."

He explained that "there is a set of questions that will be directed to the minister, during the hosting, which is the ministry's possibility and its readiness for the current summer season, in addition to the issue of the supplied gas."

Iraq, which depends on Iranian gas to produce electricity, has suffered from a chronic electricity shortage crisis for decades as a result of the siege and successive wars.

For many years, residents have protested against frequent power cuts, especially in the summer, when temperatures sometimes reach 50 degrees Celsius.

Iraq is holding talks with Gulf countries, led by Saudi Arabia, to import electricity from them by linking its system with the system of the Persian Gulf states, after it had depended on Iran alone during the past years by importing 1200 megawatts as well as gas fuel to feed local electric power stations.

Iraq also intends to import electricity from Jordan and Turkey, in an effort from Baghdad to fill the shortage until building power stations that are able to meet local consumption.   LINK
