Mp Mazen al-Fili, a member of the parliamentary economic and investment committee, on Monday renewed his demand to stop the depletion of hard currency through the currency auction organized by the Central Bank of Iraq, stressing that specific banks belonging to political parties are the biggest beneficiaries of this auction.

"We renew our demand to stop the depletion of hard currency at the auction, in which hundreds of billions of dinars are lost a month as illegal profits acquired by banks around which there are many indications of pure ownership returns or in partnership with influential political actors," Al-Philly said in a statement to Shafq News.

Because of the lack of transparency and clarity in publishing the amount of dollars sold to each bank per day, the available information indicates that some banks earn more than 80 billion dinars a month, he said.

He stressed that this bank alone receives enough monthly salary of 400,000 dinars for more than 200,000 citizens, and if we count the family rate of five people, it is enough to support one million Iraqis per month, and if we collect the profits of the rest of the banks, trillions of dinars will be available annually.

Al-Vili suggested some solutions to this crisis, which is draining public money, that the activity of selling the currency at all stages should be put in the eyes of public opinion and regulatory authorities to prevent manipulation and end illegal profit by banks that are determined to drain public money.

He stressed that the Central Bank should take clear measures by directly selling the dollar to actual traders and citizens without going through intermediary banks that do not offer any development economic activity.
