Protestors saying they will have roadblocks that will cripple the country... they're already blocking off south of Iraq from the rest of the country. All this is due to the government not meeting the citizens' demands on selecting a Prime Minister. They are bothered about the government flying out to meetings while ignoring the citizens and stating that the government will pay for this... they are stepping up the protests countrywide.
Later today

Don961:   turn the corner

Tuesday, January 21, 2020  Yasser Al-Metwally

The change in the Iraqi dinar exchange rate in light of the conditions in the country, we expected with the beginning of the crisis in October of the previous year in a previous article entitled (the exchange rate is stable) and we wondered how long it will hold?

We pointed out that the continuation of the situation may cause fluctuations in the exchange rate, and we cited the Lebanese experience at the time, how the exchange rate of the Lebanese pound deteriorated despite its stability over two decades and we called for hedging and caution And be careful.

We have emphasized that a successful monetary policy is able to maintain the stability of the exchange rate while supporting and assigning banks and exchange offices, and with national motives they all contributed to the stability price.

Yes .. it is true that what we expected in the occurrence of fluctuation happened, but until the moment the change in the exchange rate is still receding in the borders of the tigers or tigers and this result is very natural compared to the size of the crisis represented by the international and regional conflict.

Contrary to what many analysts said in their expectations of a major change, they will get the exchange rate based on their reading of the speed of events and the size  Its effect.

Remarkably, the results of this crisis, despite the size of the risks and challenges that accompanied it, the effects were less than expected. A really confusing equation.

What is the reason for your estimate of my reading of this phenomenon as a follower of the economic issue that implies that the national and responsible position of our merchants and our market owners not to take advantage of the circumstances and raise the prices had helped to mitigate the effects of the shock, this is mainly, and that the citizens held together and did not rush to the markets to store food, so I maintained The market depends on the smoothness of goods and stability the prices.

Then it is necessary not to underestimate the role of sound monetary policy, which was quick to address the crisis by announcing the pumping of currencies to maintain the price in an attempt to curb the expected volatility, as well as the commitment of banks to support these measures, as well as the role of banking offices not to speculate and exploit the circumstance, and this is calculated for them and their patriotism. High.

This cohesion and cooperation between citizens, merchants and monetary and banking institutions has led to overcoming the crisis. Will we proceed with such a correct and correct approach?

Yes. We all hope and trust that the future foreshadows goodness.   LINK

Samson:  Trump announces America's energy independence

1/21/2020 4:41 PM

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that his country was "close" to the stage of energy independence, in reference to the increase in US production of shale oil in large quantities.

Trump, in a speech on the sidelines of the first day of the World Economic Forum, in the village of Davos, Switzerland, which lasts until Friday, stated that his country has become "very close to being separated from others in the field of energy."

The United States is currently the largest producer of crude oil in the world with an average daily 12.3 million barrels, and it is also the largest global consumer with an average of 19 million barrels per day.  This comes, a few weeks after similar statements by the US President, in which he said that his country today, "does not need oil produced in the Middle East."

During his speech, Trump attacked what he called "the prophets of pessimism," who warn of the end of the world because of climate change and global warming, resulting from carbon emissions from the countries of the world, most notably industrial.

He added: "On a personal level, I believe in the environment ... but we must reject the prophets of doom and their expectations of the imminence of the end of the world for environmental reasons." He also spoke about what he described as an "economic revolution" witnessed by the United States since he took over the administration of the country, and compared it to his predecessor Barack Obama. Samson:  Iraq is rising and the president in Davos .. Analysts: Saleh failed to prioritize

21st January, 2020
Amid a new wave of demonstrations sweeping the country, the Iraqis were surprised on Tuesday by the travel of President Barham Saleh to Switzerland to attend the Davos conference.

The news of Saleh's travel to Davos, angered Iraqi tweets on Twitter, as some of them considered a flaw in assessing the priorities of the stage for the President of the Republic. US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Iraqi President Barham Salih and the President of the Kurdistan Region, Negervan Barzani, in two separate meetings.

On the other hand, observers were divided over the priority of the visit at the present time, as the travel of the President of the Republic comes at a stormy time the country is going through, while others said that this falls within his presidential tasks.  Iraq is witnessing a new wave of demonstrations after the deadline granted by the demonstrators to the government to choose a new prime minister and the trial of those who caused the demonstrators' martyrdom has ended, but none of them has been implemented.

Political analyst Raad Hashem, said, "The invitation to attend the Davos conference was received by the Iraqi president long before and before all these events occurred, and they were answered with approval at the time." Hashem believes that, far from the invitation, Barham Salih would have "failed in the task of choosing a new prime minister for Iraq, because he could not find a consensus between the parties on the one hand and the Shiite authorities on the other hand, while each side refuses to concede." For his part, says political analyst Raad Al-Kaabi, that there is a problem in coordination between the authorities in the state, in terms of knowing the powers, they are acting from the logic of leadership. Al-Kaabi explained that the Prime Minister was supposed to attend the Davos Forum because he is the one who has broad powers according to the constitution compared to the President of the Republic.

The Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul-Mahdi submitted his resignation in November last year, but he is still exercising his duties within the caretaker government until the election of a new prime minister. Iraqi political analyst Hussein Allawi believes that despite Saleh discussing important files during the Davos conference, this will cause a state of tension in the Iraqi street in light of these difficult circumstances.

"While attending the Davos conference, Saleh will focus on three main issues, which are the level of US-Iraqi relations, Iraq's membership in the international coalition against ISIS, and the promotion of investment and development opportunities in Iraq," Allawi said.

Allawi added that Saleh's travel comes in light of mass demands to choose a prime minister, who rejected all the names proposed by the political forces.

It is likely that Saleh will not discuss the issue of choosing the expected Iraqi Prime Minister with the American President, but will come at the forefront of the issues to be discussed, the US military presence in Iraq and ways to combat terrorism, and the path of US-Iraqi relations in the economic and political fields.   LINK
