Washington Extends Deadline For Iran To Export Electricity To Iraq

Saturday 04 December 2021 10:06 | economic Number of readings: 382

Baghdad / NINA / - The administration of US President Joe Biden decided to extend Iran's exemption from sanctions in the process of selling electricity to Iraq, according to a non-public notification, according to the "Washington Free Beacon", submitted to Congress at a time when nuclear talks between the states resumed United States and Tehran.

The waiver of sanctions gives Iran another 120 days to sell electricity to Iraq without facing sanctions, an arrangement that brought income to the Iranian regime, according to the American journalist.

The Trump administration set the timeframe for the waiver in an effort to wind down those sales, but the Biden administration renewed them for a maximum of 120 days.

The newspaper quoted the US State Department, as saying, that it tried "to deliver the classified portion on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 23 and 24, but due to the closure of the offices of Congress in connection with the Thanksgiving holiday, it was unable to determine the appropriate recipients."

Because of this delay, Congress did not receive the information until Monday.

In the notification, the State Department stressed that Iranian electricity sales to Iraq remain "in the national security interests of the United States." According to the exemption, Iraq's failure to reduce its dependence on Iranian electricity "necessitated the United States to waive sanctions to allow for these sales."

Iraq is holding talks with Gulf countries, led by Saudi Arabia, to import electricity from them by linking its network to the Gulf system, after it had depended on Iran alone during the past years by importing 1200 megawatts of energy./ End 8   https://ninanews.com/Website/News/Details?key=942741

Economist: The Return Of The Dollar Exchange Rate To The Previous Is Unlikely.. For This Reason

Saturday 04 December 2021 10:26 | economic Number of readings: 378

Baghdad / NINA / - The specialist in economic affairs, Maitham Laibi, ruled out the return of the dollar exchange rate to the previous exchange rate against the dinar, attributing this to the fact that this measure would prejudice the credibility of the central bank and monetary policy.

Laibi said in a statement to the National Iraqi News Agency / NINA /: “It is unlikely that the central bank or the government will return the dollar exchange rate to the previous one, and if it does, this will greatly prejudice the credibility of monetary policy, meaning that the private sector; and the public in general, has confidence in the government’s actions from In order to achieve its goals, such as targeting inflation and achieving stability.

He stressed: "The Central Bank's retreat from its decisions will shake confidence with the public and make the public build its decisions on the basis of the imbalance of the rules of the game between the two parties and turn stability into a series of actions and their negative responses, especially since the private sector in a country depends on a managed exchange rate, making it subject and receiving signals. From the central bank and the government, not the market.”

He continued, "The "manipulation" of the exchange rate counters from time to time will further complicate this already critical relationship, especially since the Central Bank, in its previous announcement, after which the exchange rate was changed, made it clear that this amendment is final and for one time. / End 8 https://ninanews.com/Website/News/Details?Key=942745
