Global Oil Price Hike

Economie| 09:22 - 23/08/2021  Follow - Mawazine News  Oil prices rose, on Monday, amid a broader recovery in the market after capping the longest streak of declines in more than three years due to economic pressures from the return of Covid-19 and the strength of the dollar.

Brent crude futures rose $1.18, or 1.82%, to $66.93 a barrel by 05:10 GMT, after hitting their lowest level since May 21 at $64.60 earlier in the session.

US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures for October rose $1.12, or 1.80%, to $63.27 a barrel, rebounding from $61.74 a barrel, the lowest since May 21, touched in early Asian trade.

Both benchmarks recorded their biggest week of losses in more than nine months last week as Brent fell about 8% and WTI fell about 9%, as markets braced for weaker fuel demand worldwide due to the increasing pandemic.

Many countries around the world are responding to the high rate of coronavirus infection, caused by the delta variant, by adding travel restrictions to limit the spread.

And China, the largest importer of crude oil in the world, imposed restrictions with a zero-tolerance policy with the Corona virus, which made it able to control it, as some local areas in it do not record any infection with the virus.

The rise of the US dollar to its highest levels in more than nine months against the major currencies has also affected oil prices, as oil prices move inversely to the US currency, making oil more expensive for foreign buyers when the dollar rises.    https://www.mawazin.net/Details.aspx?jimare=164763
