For The First Time In The History Of Iraq, Basra Exports The First Shipment Of Semi-Cooled Gas

Economie| 05:47 - 20/06/2022   Basra - Mawazine News   On Monday, Basra Gas Company announced the export of its first shipment of semi-cooled gas through its Umm Qasr port.

In a statement received by Mawazine News, the company's general manager, Malcolm Mays, said: "It is a historic moment recorded by the Basra Gas Company in the history of Iraq. Today we exported the first shipment of semi-cooled gas through the port of Umm Qasr.

It is a really great achievement and deserves to be proud of.

We have worked hard and continuously to achieve this strategic goal by rehabilitating Umm Qasr port and equipping it with the necessary cooling units in order to reap the fruits of this project today,” noting that

it is “a great achievement for the Basra Gas Company and for Iraq, where we are today.”

We are able to load liquid gas in its two forms: compressed and semi-cooled, on board tankers, and

this will increase the number of export tonnages that the company will export to its customers.”

He added, "This step gives us the opportunity to triple our exports globally via tankers, and

it will double the exported quantity per shipment.

In addition, we will have access to many global markets and destinations that deal exclusively with shipments of semi-cooled gas."

“Our future strategic plans seek to double our exports of semi-cooled gas and

then participate in global markets when we are fully able to export refrigerated gas.”

And the Director General added that “the process of cooling liquid semi-cooled gas is based on cooling the gas to the required degrees in order to load it on board tankers with special specifications and within specific pressure rates,” noting that

“the mixed gases are pumped through the refrigeration units to the port of Umm Qasr under certain temperatures.”

The product is cooled to the required degree before being pumped to the tanker, and in fact, the carrying capacity of tankers intended for transporting semi-cooled gas is usually greater than that of compressed gas https://www.mawazin.net/Details.aspx?Jimare=197058
