The US House Of Representatives Is Heading To Cancel Bush's Mandate On Iraq

Political | 03:35 - 11/06/2021   Baghdad - Mawazine News  The US House of Representatives will vote next week to repeal a presidential authorization to use military force in Iraq.

The council is moving toward repealing the 2002 law that gives the president the authority to use military force in Iraq after years of complaints by lawmakers that this mandate is outdated and no longer needed.

The American newspaper, "Washington Examiner," reported that House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer announced that the House would consider the bill presented by Representative Barbara Lee.

Congress passed a law nearly two decades ago to give then-President George W. Bush the last light to launch US military operations in Iraq, where Saddam Hussein was believed to be hiding weapons of mass destruction.

House Democrats said the 2002 mandate served no purpose.

"There is no need for it in any current operations, including in Iraq," said Hoyer, the Maryland Democrat. "It's long overdue to revoke this needless mandate."

Two Republican lawmakers also voted to push the repeal measure, and two other Republican lawmakers said they agreed on the need to review the nearly two-decade-old mandate.

Parliament Hosts The Governor Of The Central .. And The Finance Committee Talks About Sales In Violation Of The Dollar And Beneficiary Parties

political| 02:52 - 11/06/2021  Baghdad - Mawazine News  The Finance Committee revealed, in the House of Representatives, on Friday, a hosting of the Governor of the Central Bank, pointing to the existence of unofficial sales of the dollar.

Committee member, Naji Al-Saidi, pointed out that "an invitation was sent to the governor of the Central Bank for the purpose of hosting him next week to inquire about the high exchange rate of the dollar against the dinar, and the presence of unofficial sales of the dollar."

Al-Saidi said, "There is a problem related to the economic awareness of the ruling political class, which is a big problem that only the specialist knows, and it needs major government interventions, because there are more than 100 million dollars that go to speculation, and there are those who benefit from the difference between the official and nominal exchange rate, as The official exchange rate is 145 thousand dinars, and the nominal is 150, meaning a difference of about 6 thousand dinars for every 100 dollars, and if the process is calculated, the profits of the banks involved in speculation will appear, and there are political figures supporting this issue that political parties and others benefit from.

And he indicated, "It is the responsibility of the Central Bank to use some steps to increase the money supply of the dollar in order to return it to the 148 thousand, which is a price parallel to the official price."

He pointed out, "The issue of the currency sale window, if the state does not interfere with all its security, military and economic capabilities with regard to the monetary policy of the Central Bank, then this dilemma cannot be resolved."

He added that "speculative requests do not exceed between 50 and 70 requests, while selling is carried out at a rate of 210 requests, so who is the one who buys at this price and with this volume of requests, and this confirms the existence of a clear and diagnosed defect." https://www.mawazin.net/Details.aspx?jimare=156573

Iraq .. A Draft Law To Review The Balances Of Officials During 17 Years

Fri, 04-06-2021, AM 11:52 Tayseer Al-Assadi 671   The Iraqi presidency revealed a draft law to review the financial balances of people who held high positions in the state during the past 17 years.

The statement stated, "The bill (recently approved by the presidency) provides for a review of the financial balances of people who have held high positions in the state since 2004 until now."

He added that "higher positions include the rank of general manager or above, and the competent financial authorities are preparing a list of the occupants of these positions during the past 17 years."

He continued, "The investigation and investigation includes family members, friends and close associates of officials who have any kind of relationship, political or commercial, as well as those with influence, who are the people who have an influence on decision-making within the state's facilities and agencies."

On May 23, President Saleh announced that the amount of money smuggled outside the country as a result of corruption has reached 150 billion dollars, since 2003.

In order for the bill to become effective, it requires Parliament's approval.

Observers believe that President Barham chose to pass the bill ahead of the elections scheduled for next October, to ensure that it would not be rejected by Parliament, given that all of its current members, most of whom are candidates for the upcoming elections, adopt anti-corruption slogans in their electoral campaigns.

Continuously, the country's supervisory authorities announce the issuance of arrest warrants and confiscation of movable and immovable funds for prominent officials, including ministers, governors and general managers, on charges related to financial and administrative corruption.

Iraq is among the most corrupt countries in the world, according to the Transparency International index over the past years, and international reports are always received with “waste and embezzlement.”

The fight against corruption is at the top of the demands of the massive protests in Iraq since October 2019. https://non14-net./137208/

An Economist Warns Against Working With The 1/12 System Next Year

10:52 - 11/06/2021  Information/Baghdad.   The economic affairs specialist, Safaa Al-Khalisi, warned, on Friday, against working with the 1 by 12 system next year, pointing out that the dollar will continue to rise and will take advantage of the absence of the legitimate government after the elections to raise the price of the dollar more than its current value.

Al-Khalisi said in a statement to "Al-Maalouma", that "the dollar continues to rise without taking any government measures that would control prices or impose specific pricing or deterrent measures against those who exploit this rise."

He added, "The government should have activate the food dollar option, so that food traders can obtain the dollar according to the previous price in order to ensure that the value of these materials will not be raised and thus achieve the simplest requirements of the people, provided that the trader is registered with the Baghdad Chamber of Commerce and submits the identification papers for import“.

Al-Khalisi explained, "The continued rise of the dollar will be exploited during the next year, especially if the elections are held on time and the caretaker government is resorted to, as the budget will be spent according to the 1 by 12 system, which will push to exploit this circumstance to raise the exchange rate of the dollar in the local markets more than current price.”      https://almaalomah.org/2021/06/11/539319/
