Samson:  Iraq.. Expose the reasons for the demands to withdraw the hand of the director of customs

16th April, 2022

Independent MP Hadi Al-Salami revealed the reasons for the demands to withdraw the hand of the director of the General Customs Authority, while noting that the Border Ports Authority took a positive step to reduce the rampant corruption in the joints of institutions linked with it.

Al-Salami said in an interview with "Mawazine News" that "the border crossings have taken a positive step in establishing an electronic platform for their work, in cooperation with the Industrial Development Directorate of the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, the Ministry of Trade and the security and intelligence agencies to monitor work through the electronic platform."

He added that the Customs Authority refused to enter the platform due to corruption and the spread of bribery and graft, so that it refused electronic automation and violated the decision of the Council of Ministers obligating to adopt the electronic platform and did not apply the laws.

He pointed out, "He sent a letter to demand the withdrawal of the hand of the Director General of Customs for failing to implement Cabinet Resolution No. 106 of 2018, which obligates the relevant government agencies to adopt electronic documents in their transactions related to commercial exchange at border ports and to archive these transactions according to an electronic system and within a specified time limit."   LINK

MilitiaMan:  No wonder there is movement on the borders to get compliance, the ISO20022 is in the making already. It has been long over due. This article supports that the time is now not next year like has been (imo) recklessly thrown out yesterday.

Notice that they use the word graft.. The siphon is now capped.. The leaking at the borders was likely consistent with the likes of the coordination frameworks honey pot and that is looking to be no longer.. Look at the level of attendees this last few days in vegas.

The world is not looking back nor are they waiting much longer for significant change. There no more procrastination and Iraq has shown they know it and have had to react. This is a very good sign.. imo..  ~ MM.

The countdown to move to the ISO 20022 standard starts now.

Around the world, experts are noting that high value systems like SWIFT Worldwide, Target2, EBA, and others, are mandating the implementation of ISO 20022. To effectively manage expectations, timelines have been given for ISO 20022 adoption. In most cases, November 2022 is the date to remember.

In 12 months, banks will begin to recognize ISO 20022 as the standard for high-value payments systems. It is projected that ISO 20022 will be so widely implemented that SWIFT is estimating 79% of high-value payments by volume and 87% of payments by value will already have migrated to ISO 20022 by 2023, if current deadlines are met.

The time to act is now, those who continue to prolong migration efforts could risk missing the variety of benefits associated with early adoption.

"ISO 20022, first introduced in 2004, is an international standard for relaying electronic messages between financial institutions."
